Steven Spielberg's Lincoln finally adds another castmember

I dunno.  Sally Field has the tendency to get histrionic sometimes, and the Mary Todd role has the potential to go to 11 on the Histrionic Meter.  I hope she dials it down.

I can't help thinking that Joan Allen would have killed at this part, esp. since she and Day-Lewis have already worked together.

Glad to see this finally coming together.  This has been on my radar for years.

I'm sure everybody involved knows exactly what they are doing but Daniel Day-Lewis and Sally Field seem like such an odd pairing on paper.

Ugh!  Why can't anybody get Mary Todd right?  Unless she's radically changed over the last few years, Field is as terrible a choice as Mary Tyler Moore.

Despite being a bit more slender, the great Donna Murphy nailed the part in TNT's DAY LINCOLN WAS SHOT.   I'm with Ratty, Joan Allen would be a much better fit.

Field is twenty years older than Mary Todd Lincoln was when Abe was assassinated.

I am vexed by this casting.

I second the Joan Allen pick. She could have knocked it out of the park, and she bears a striking resemblance as well.

I'm surprised they cast so much older than Day-Lewis.  Mary Todd Lincoln looked much older than she was (just like her husband and most people of the era) so I don't think it's a huge stretch, physically speaking.

Field's a great actress. I like this casting.
