SEE NO EVIL IN THE RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES TRAILER - Page 2

double post...

In general, anything Planet of the Apes related is guaranteed to bore the shit out of me (if I absolutely had to give a positive, it would be the original movie's Serling ending). But all those "creepy" comments made me check this trailer out, and I was pleasantly surprised. This could be a fine addition to the simian horror genre. Can Baboon Holocaust be far off?

Speaking of SPLICE... Will this movie be as disturbing as SPLICE? Will Franco toss some Caesar salad?

* I apologize. But I'm not sorry.

"Common side effects of Chimpocil include irritability, mood swings, heart failure, liver damage, and monkey business."

This is almost doomed to be a less compelling story than the race-riot-as-slave-uprising of the original Conquest, but hot damn those are some amazing chimp effects.

Lot of love for Conquest being thrown around... I might have to check it out.  Only seen the first three films.

HAHAHAHA. This is your greatest post.

I'm finding it sort of weird that people are losing their shit over the drug. It's a plot tool, nothing else, and I'm find with a bit hand waving there. The APES movies have never really been about what biological mechanism or shift changed them into talking, more intelligent beings. They've been about race, religion, and other cultural stuff, using the reversed world of intelligent apes and "dumb" humans to explore ideas. To me, it's the equivalent of the intro to the X-Men film; not even close to good biology and science, but it's sufficient for the hook or conceit of the film.

Yeah, but the whole "science runs amok" thing has very little to do with the themes that made the originals good.

post #60 of 62

You're right - but is it anything more than a plot point for this version? Is "science run amok" a theme or underlying idea for the movie, or is the Cure simply a means to get intelligence into the apes?

OR are we already into death of the author territory, and since science creates the apes, it's fair game to make an argument that film is centered around the idea that science or biomedical engineering unchecked is an apocalypse in the making?

Not asking to be sarcastic. Really trying to respond and dialogue.

I think you guys are overthinking things, and this is going to fall into the unthinking "science is bad!" Hollywood trope.

This is going to be the kind of slipshod product that you can tell the studio doesn't mind dumping onto the marketplace despite having no rewarding moral or theme. It's Fox. It's kind of their m.o.

Jesus Christ, man! It's arguably the best one. Get on it.
