BLU-RAY REVIEW: BLACK SWAN

The definitive version of Darren Aronofsky's doppelganger docu-horror masterpiece.

It's so funny that I currently have Portman's obnoxious Garden State performance playing in the background as this review popped up.

If I had ANY complaint about the film, it would be the fact that I felt it overused the creepy audio cues.  The mirror gags, I didn't mind.  Comes with the ballet territory.  But a lot of the 'subliminal' sound fx work (voices, wings flapping, goosepimpling, instrumental stings) felt SUPERliminal.   "HEY!  Join the navy!!!"

Not a big deal though.  It's definitely not a subtle film, heheheh.

Appreciate the links scattered throughout the solid review.  How long is the documentary on the disc?

EDIT:  Never mind.  You mention that it's feature-length.

Best film of 2010, IMO. Aranofsky wasn't playing around, it's a jaw-dropping masterwork.

It's a good documentary, especially if you're interested in the tech stuff.

And I agree that Black Swan isn't subtle at all. Not to get all PK-ey on you, but I was attacked by a rogue swan in Copenhagen a few years back, and the noise they make - sort of a cross between a cobra hiss and a funeral dirge - is really terrifying, and it's put to good use in the movie.

I'm sorry.  Because now, I have an image of you getting attacked by a rogue swan set to Tchaikovsky's glorious music, and it's making me laugh.

I do think the use of sound was effective.  They just felt overly prominent in the mix.

But still, this was my favorite film of last year.
