Will Ryan Gosling saddle up?

Personally, I was (and still am) hoping for the "Timothy Olyphant as The Lone Ranger" rumors to turn out to be true.  Verbinski himself hinted that he was a possibility.

So wait... I'm still confused about this. Is this going to be some post modern re-jig where we get the story from Tontos point of view? Is it going to be more comedic with the central conceit that Tonto was really the one who knew what he was doing, like Without A Clue in the old west?

What the hells the story here? Why the hell is Tonto the prize role in this particular LR adaptation?

The Rain Dog, I am confused by this concept as well.  I was hoping, Depp would be...The Lone Ranger.  Tonto, has and should remain the...Ranger's sidekick.  Really, if The Lone Ranger is portrayed as buffoonish as, The Green Hornet then...Seth Rogen should be...The Lone Ranger, as The Lone Ranger is a relative of The Green Hornet!  I do not care for, Ryan Gosling, so I hope that falls through.

Option #1 is the way they are going, according to all interviews with Bruckheimer about the subject.  Expect a tone similar to Pirates.  Johnny will be the crazy Tonto to the straight-laced Lone Ranger (whoever ends up with the role).  Bruckheimer keeps saying he thinks it will be fun seeing the story from the POV of an "unreliable narrator" (Tonto).  I'd expect the Lone Ranger to be portrayed as mythic and badass as possible in the eyes of Tonto.

BTW, Tonto isn't the "prize" role, it is just the role that Depp wanted to play.  I'm pretty sure he was cast before a script was even written.  Anyway, if this is even half as good a western as Rango was, then we are in for a treat.

Sounds too close to Gilliam's DON QUIXOTE flick. Or Bizarro version. I can't tell. Gosling's all wrong though IMO.

Yeah seriously. Considering they were talking about a Pitt or a Clooney, Gosling is way wrong.

According to AICN, Gosling will not be starring in this.

As for the comparisons to Gilliam's Don Quixote?  Maybe that is what attracted Depp to this in the first place?
