Joey DiMaio would be spinning in his grave if he was dead. I mean I like The Foo Fighters a lot, but how the fuck do you ignore Manowar for a Thor soundtrack?

As the attached pic suggests, Jon Mikl was SNUBBED.

Foo Fighters have never been a group I’ve enjoyed (or hated for that matter)

In the same camp, but I have to say, Grohl is a really cool fellow. One of those "I'd like to have a beer with that guy" type rock stars, of which there are very few.

Haha thanks Renn. Awesome.

I've always had a soft spot for goofy ol' Grohl - perhaps never moreso than after the video for Low - but I haven't liked too much Foos music since their thrid album. The new songs sound pretty good though.

Hey, at least it's not Nickleback or Dashboard Motherfucking Confessional.

It's a good song (In fact the new album's the Foos' strongest in years), but it just doesn't scream 'heir to Asgard' to me. Still, I concur with Greg: At least they picked a decent band.

I'm honestly surprised Marvel didn't go for AC/DC's Thunderstruck.

I have been a long time fan of Foo Fighters in general and Dave Grohl specifically (Love Them Crooked Vultures!)

But seriously!  Am I the only one who thinks that Thor needs, NEEDS! a Heavy-Metal-Rock-Opera Battle anthem!  This song is definitely not that.  The scenes from Asgard all look like they all jumped right off the painted covers of all those old Heavy Metal album covers.  This movie needs an ultra cheesy epic soundtrack.

That FF song is way too low key and generic sounding.  In for a penny, in for a pound when you make your movie look that much like a follow up to Flash Gordon I say.

Stelios, you were dead on with the Manowar.  Were you serious, I hope?

If not Manowar, there's still plenty of old-school metal bands who have the fanbase to be worth including (Maiden, for example) Or you have good, more modern choices like 3 Inches of Blood or Danzig. Fuck it, they should've just bought the entire Brutal Legend soundtrack and used that.

I believe Queen's "Hammer to Fall" was the only logical choice.

Dead serious. It's the damn Norse gods, the music should be turned up to eleven.

I would just like to put out there that the news articles state that the song "was not written for the movie" nor is it technically on the soundtrack (the cd that could be sold) for Thor.  It was picked by the directors because it fit the overall theme of the movie about Thor getting his but kicked out of Asgard and learning how to grow up.  You can talk about all the metal you want, but I would rather have a song that fits the theme instead of blatantly talking about Thor in the song...thats way too forward in all honestly.

As for AC/DC...wasn't most of the best songs (many great and good songs from that band) used in Iron Man and Iron Man 2?  Directors and producers aren't idiots...they won't pick songs just because it talks about thunder and Thor can use thunder.  Making movies is an art, and so is picking the music for that movie.  There won't be but two non-orchestrated songs on the soundtrack if you watch the credits.

Yes heavy metal could have been appropriate to a viking god movie...but this isn't strictly viking...they are aliens technically.  Also, just because most of the better if not the best metal bands are from that area of the world, doesn't make them appropriate per say.  Its all about themes, drawn by not using obvious words...like Thor, death, blood, lightning, hammer, Son of Odin.  We already know that is what Thor is about.  The music is in the background and supposed to emphasize what is going on in the movie.  Watch Thor and you will see that it was placed during the right scene.

Anyways, enough ranting...just kinda bored of everyone arguing over a song that was not written for a movie.

It just seems that metal is being fronted because thats the favorite music of the people picking it.

I do see your point though, but that song was epic and a bit more famous than some of the songs being spouted here...except maybe raining blood...that song is just nuts lol.

But getting back to what I said, look at the scene the song is in from FF.  Not a very appropriate scene to have metal playing...unless its slow melodic metal lol.  The scene was where Thor realizes there is something more to life than just battle and missing home at the same time...he shows off human characteristics.  Thus, "learning to walk again" being very appropriate as well as the theme of the song being that someone is far from home.  In his case...VERY FAR from home lol.

We can sit here and pick everything apart til the sun goes red dwarf and we are no longer around...but really, metal was not appropriate for that scene at all.  However, when he gets Mjolnir back and starts kicking butt again...I could see some metal there!  (Keep in mind, there were like two non-orchestrated songs in the whole movie, I am not sure there is a legit soundtrack being provided to anyone outside the movie itself)

Aliens, gods.... If you don't see what's inherently metal about the property, you never will.  You should be forced to read the comics air-brushed on a van.

Seriously, I have admitted that certain metal songs would be appropriate.  This discussion is about the foo fighters song .  It is at a point in the movie where Thor is not feeling quite metal...  Playing a metal song at that point would have been VERY awkward.

Thus me knowing more about the property is null and void.  I know the property and my point is not about the property.  YES a metal song would be appropriate, but at an appropriate point in the movie. I stated "However, when he gets Mjolnir back and starts kicking butt again...I could see some metal there!"

Another point that makes this null and void... the CD soundtrack contains only the orchestral songs anyways.  The Foo song was in the movie and in the credits, not on the official soundtrack (thus only contained on "Wasting Light" album).

Also, the song was not written for the movie...just chosen for that particular scene because it fit the feel of that period in the movie.  Its not an official THOR movie song in anyway, just background music.

I apologize if I took your comment not as a joke...and that I am ranting.
