The Hunger Games draws more talent into the arena

As soon as I saw that Banks had been cast, I knew she would be playing Effie Trinket. I love the books and am pretty happy with the casting choices so far. The only thing I'm worried about is how far they'll be willing to go with the violence. Young adult books can get away with a lot more than a pg-13 movie, and some of the deaths (especially in the final book, if the films make it that far) are pretty gruesome.

Oh, and Elisabeth, you should take a crack at reading the series. In my case I read through the first book in a day, same with the sequels. They're not that long and are seriously addictive (each book contains more cliff-hangers than a mountain range).

I always imagined the character to be older than Banks but there again I never saw Josh Hutcherson as Peeta either.

I wonder how they will handle some of the mutant dog aspects towards the end of the first book? That was disturbing as hell to read and I don't know if that will translate to the screen at all...

Could anyone else not help but fancast Stanley Tucci for Cinna while reading the book?  I couldn't...

Lord, no. I mean, I get why you would but hasn't Tucci played enough fashion designers for a little while at this point?

If I were to cast Cinna I'd go with Alan Cumming.

I can definitely see Alan Cumming as Cinna as well.  Of course, I'm not saying that Tucci SHOULD be cast.  It's just that I couldn't shake that image precisely because him playing a fashion designer is so old hat.  Hahahahah

I'm of the opinion that Elizabeth Banks should be in everything, so this is great news to me.

Ah. Clearly my comprehension skills are still developing. We are agreed!

Thankfully, Tucci never entered my mind while reading the book. Of course, now that you've said that I'll be picturing him as the character when I read the sequel.

I was genuinely surprised to find that I enjoyed the first book. It's well-paced, filled with solid page-turning moments, and has a strong overall voice. Twilight it ain't.

I'm seeing John Cameron Mitchell for Cinna, and for some odd reason, I have Clive Owen in mind for Haymitch.

I can definitely see John Cameron Mitchell for Cinna.  After Winter's Bone, how awesome would it be to get John Hawkes for Haymitch?

All I could think about from the title was a potential SLITHER sequel. Dangit.

My wife was prodding me to read the books, and a few weeks ago I gave the first one a shot.  I proceeded to devour all 3.  I was mighty surprised to enjoy them as much as I did.  They're all pretty good.  Much, much, much better than expected and overall very solid, and highly entertaining.  When I was done with the last one I actually sort of felt a bit of "What am I supposed to do now?" because I was enjoying them so much.  I'd definitely recommend them to anybody who was on the fence or even slightly curious.  If fears of Twilight are keeping you from checking them out then let that idea go.  Jesse was right...  "Twilight it aint".  The characters and world are very well developed.

I'm excited to see where this production goes and I'm looking forward to seeing more casting news as it develops.  Elizabeth Banks definitely seems like a good fit.  For Cinna though, I always imagined him as a bit younger, considering that this was his first turn as a designer.  Stanley Tucci, no way!!!!  Ha!  But as far as my own ideas go, I have no idea...  In my head he always looked like this dude who cuts my hair every now and then.

I'd be happy if John Hawkes was in every movie from now on. I've heard Hugo Weaving bandied about for Haymitch. That's excellent fantasy casting as well.

I haven't read the books and I'm not terribly invested in this project, but the talent being roped in for it is making me curious. I might have to check out the first novel myself at this rate.
