...though one of them might be bullshit.

What role do you think these folks will play in TDKR?

Car insurance claims adjuster (BAT-TUMBLER DAMAGE!) and Gotham UPS deliveryperson (BAT EARS FROM CHINA!). Now who plays which?

I hold out suspicion that "Miranda Tate" is Talia under cover. I can see Nolan wanting to keep that a secret for as long as possible.

JGL might just be who it says, though I was sort of hoping for Alberto Falcone.

I can see the fake-out with a possible Talia, but I'm actually hoping JGL is just a corrupt beat-cop here.

Wasn't there someone cast as a "young Ducard" a few weeks back?  What is the point of having a flashback scene, if it doesn't tie in with his daughter?

I figured all along that both of them would get fairly boring background unimportant characters.

Kudos to all those that held strong about JGL just being a cop. Though I'd have to imagine it won't be JUST a beat cop, but hopefully a meatier role. As for Cotillard as an undercover Talia......Nolan would have to think that's too obvious, right? Especially after the twist in Begins?

It's pretty short sighted to call these roles "boring" or automatically assume they're background characters. If anything, I'm much more interested in their roles now purely because we don't know how they factor in at all, and reinforces the feeling that we don't really know what the plot of this one is going to be at all. What's that, twinge of intrigue and interest? Oh, it's been so long!

Gordon is going to need a right hand man / successor type, wouldnt be surprised if that's JGL.

And any right-hand-man of Gordon's is going to be conflicted about siding with Batman or trying to take him down. It'll be a meaty role for Gordon-Levitt.

I don't know about Levitt, but "Miranda Tate" is a total smoke screen. I mean, Talia has to know that Bruce Wayne and Batman are the same guy, what better way to screw Batman over than to take him apart from the inside out? People will go for this because it's an official announcement, but as has been said when people heard that Ken Watanabe had been cast as Ra's Al Ghul, and Liam Neeson was cast as Ducard*, they knew something was up. Same thing here.

*That reminds me, if he really wanted to throw people off the scent, Nolan should done what he did in Begins, chosen the name of a minor Batman character (like Henri Ducard), someone fans aren't all that tied to, and used it as a cover for what's really going on (shit, there are people still confused about the whole Ducard / Al Ghul thing). Julie Madison, Vesper Fairchild, maybe, maaaybe, Sasha Bordeaux, someone like that, just to make it sound genuine.

When I learned that the Rachel Dawes character was coming back for TDK, I immediately called her out as dead meat. She felt like a character that was built to be killed w/out pissing off fans, totally sacrificial. The name "Miranda Tate" feels similarly sacrificial.

I guess Nicky Katt blew his chance to return to do that.  He must be cursing Gordon Levitt's name right about now.

He didn't sign up for this!

Well played, sir.  Well played.

I looked at a draft of the script for THE DARK KNIGHT.  "Shotgun SWAT" does have some pretty crappy lines.  Can't blame Nicky Katt for not delivering.

I'm assuming the first act will consist of Batman dealing with Catwoman while being chased by The Gotham Police Force, with JGL being the "bad cop". I only wish he'd gain 100lbs and play Bullock.

Maybe Alberto Falcone became a cop! Huh? Huh???

Maybe Tate is Talia, but I can also see her serving as a counter-point to Selina Kyle.  If Bruce has been wanting to get out of the Batman game, someone like Tate encouraging him to seek the betterment of Gotham through charitable methods could be a tempting opposite to the thrills of chasing leather-clad femme-fatales across Gotham.

In other words, Tate proves Bruce is gay.

JGL's character sounds like he could be that crazy cop in Prey that was spearheading the task force to take down Batman.
