The wording on this piece was a little confusing... it's Platinum Dunes, so it's a sequel to the remakes, which were period films, right? But it takes place "three decades after Leatherface goes dancing in the streets in Tobe Hooper’s film"? I'm just going to assume it's a straight sequel to the Platinum Dunes films and not revisiting Hooper's insane continuity, particularly the second film.

Which of course is a pity, because Platinum Dunes are just the fucking WORST. But why 30 years later? Has Leatherface aged? Are we going to be getting aged, Social Security-earning Leatherface? Mid-life crisis Leatherface? Or is it just a... sigh... reboot and/or a modern remake of the films?

I'm pretty sure Platinum Dunes is no longer involved with this franchise.  Twisted Pictures is at the helm (I believe), which might actually be worse.

Twisted Pictures being involved makes that wording even stranger because usually when a franchise switches over, isn't it a clean slate? That press release, or whatever, made it seem like it was building off from what PD did in a continuity sense.

And yes, I rate Twisted Pictures worse than the Dunes.

Bloody-disgusting have their heads up their asses. It's Twisted Pictures, it will have nothing to do with the Platinum Dunes remake. It's basically another sequel to the Hooper original set in the present day, and presumably there will be a "new" Leatherface.

If the tagline for this isn't "Leatherface . . . IN YO' FACE!", then they have failed.

The trailer should just be Leatherface cutting a big Saw 3D logo in half then doing the chainsaw dance.

I don't rate Twisted below Platinum Dunes. Not saying this will be any good but it might be a little more imaginative than Leatherface seeing a chainsaw on the floor of a slaughterhouse and deciding that's his weapon of choice. Seriously that didn't need to be explained but if they had to it should have been better. A See Spot Run comparable origin story.

When the Friday the 13th rebootquelmake was announced, as a fan of "classic" F13, I expressed slight dismay that they just didn't trudge along with the pt. 11, and then 12, and 13, etc, forever and ever until the implosion of infinity, but now? Kill all of it. Any carryover from the 70's and 80's. Let it all go. New stuff, new stuff that isn't fucking SAW, but new stuff, please. Thank you.

Exactly.  This film is pretty much The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 5.  The opening supposedly picks up right after the end of Hooper's original and then jumps 30-some years forward to the present day.  So I guess that makes this the first franchise to stop, have a couple remakes, and then pick back up like nothing happened?  I guess it was bound to happen eventually...

FYI, when this was announced last year, Twisted Pictures made it sound like they view it as their replacement franchise for Saw.  I don't know if that means they want to crank out a new one every year, but this is definitely the first in a planned franchise.

They also said they were aiming to make it more "urban." And they weren't talking about Karl.

I really shouldn't have laughed at that as much as I did.
