Yeah, this sorta seems like a "duh!" or non-item to me. I couldn't imagine Black not having a hand in the script at some level, even if they hired someone to complete a first draft.

I suppose it is something that they heard-tell that Pearce was brought on to keep things grounded in PG-13 territory.

I felt like (especially after seeing the deleted scenes) that much of the "more adult" humor (innuendos, risque Stark playboy behavior) was kept out of IRON MAN 2, on purpose. Was there pressure to make the sequel more kid-friendly? How will that effect Black's vision?

I'd wager that Black already knows he has to shoot for a PG-13; he is making a Marvel superhero film, after all. It seems very plausible that taking on a co-writer was part of the deal from the very beginning. I really doubt he would've agreed to take on writing duties of any kind if he wasn't sure he could tone his style down in the appropriate places.

The downside? No scene where Stark tells Pepper Potts that he'd like a little pussy...

Yeah, although I'd love to see actually Downey act like someone who has slept his way through a year of Maxim cover models, we're not getting it.

The Long Kiss Goodnight Boyscout meets Tony Stark will do just fine thank you.

If the studio wanted someone to keep this PG, there would be better options than the guy who wrote this:

As cool and awesome Shane Black is, he has only directed one film. Which wasn't a 150 million dollar summer blockbuster. I wouldn't be surprised if hiring another writer was his own idea.

i think this is a great idea. shane black is so under used.

My point was that IRON MAN 1 (which was already PG-13) seemed to have more risque material than IRON MAN 2 (which was still PG-13, but felt more PG than 1), especially if you look at the deleted party scenes. Will there be friction between Marvel and Black (who may want to take it back the other direction)? Not R of course, but more "mature". I'm not arguing for them to let Black go crazy and make it kid-unfriendly with ultra-violence and sex. I guess I just don't want to see Stark lose any more of his playboy "spark". He was almost too distracted to even flirt with ScarJo in part 2 for crying out loud! Preposterous. I don't care if he was dying.

Not that I have ever directed a movie, but I imagine scripting duties coupled with Directing is much too large a task for him to give 100% focus on either. Thus, the second writer. My thoughts, I am excited to hear he is doing both and hope Iron Man 3 is better than Iron Man 1. I am with the crowd that finds Iron Man 2 lacking. It lacked the soul and heart the first film had.
