2011-2012 NFL season - Page 3

Yeah, I don't get it either.  Andy Reid isn't a moron - he obviously saw potential in Kolb or else he wouldn't have been so willing to cut ties with McNabb.  The Vick situation was a wacky turn of events and I'm sure as long as he stays healthy, they won't regret dealing Kolb, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if he ended up taking another team to the playoffs.

I agree with Fleed on this one. Kolb is highly overrated. He strikes me as one of those QBs who only excels with a nice, big pocket around him. I watched thier first game against GB last year, and I was hard pressed to think of another time I saw a QB look as lost and confused as Kolb did in that game........ granted, GB's def did that to a LOT of QBs last year, but it did not give me any confidence in Kolb. I get a Jay Fiedler feeling from him.

If someone gives Phi a 1st for him.....then that's a HUGE win for Phi.

DamnDirtyApe, Also, Kevin Kolb, looks better in the...Eagles offense.  Imagine him in Miami, with 2 aging rbs, and a fairly slow, rookie rb, solid TE and good receivers, with a...Horrible OL, outside of Jake Long, and Ritchie Incognito.  I do not see a winning season.  I do see a...New Head Coach, GM, etc, lamenting they have a journeyman QB, and no #1 pick!  A double bonus would be a...2-14 season, with someone else drafting...Andrew Luck!

Fleed seems to be reaching that level with the Dolphins where you see a guy set fire to his own house, then stand outside and laugh while he watches it burn down.

I totally agree that Kolb would be a mess in the wrong offense.  He'd look pretty terrible if he came to Washington, for sure.

Martianman, Don't misunderstand me.  I am not...Laughing about the plight of the Dolphins.  I have been a fan since...1972, when I was...4 years old.  Miami has had one disasterous coach after another since Shula...Retired!  Jimmy Johnson was the...Best of the 5 head coaches (not counting any interim coaches), since then.  JJ built the Dolphin D, that was firing on all cylanders for...15 years.  Dave Wannstadt, Nick Saban, Cam Cameron and Tony Sparano are all in the same category...TERRIBLE!   See, I wanted Miami to...Draft a QB, this year.  Andy Dalton, Ryan Mallett, or really...Anyone would have been fine.  What I really want to see with Miami, is the kind of offense where the Passing Attack is...THE Most Important, part of the offense.  Also, no more Journeymen.  No more QBs that failed with a team only to join Miami for a 2nd rd pick and fail again. I also want a Head Coach that believes in passing first.  The worst part of Parcells coming to Miami, was he left a team...without a good QB, no RB, a journeyman TE, Solid WR's (albiet...without speed), a bad OL, and not so...Special Teams!

Fleed, How about Brett Favre. I hear he's itching to come back with the right team. ......

History Buff, No...Favre Beans for the Dolphins, please.

James Harrison continues to be a gigantic douchebag:

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/6764826/james-harrison-pittsburgh-steelers-blasts-roger-goodell-magazine-interview

"Hey, at least throw a pick on their side of the field instead of asking the D to bail you out again. Or hand the ball off and stop trying to act like Peyton Manning. You ain't that and you know it, man; you just get paid like he does,"

I have no love for the Steelers (in fact, I kind of hate them), but its baffling to me that a professional athlete would be so willing to throw his teammates under the bus like that.

Its pretty clear that most of Big Ben's teammates can't stand him. I mean when he was going through his legal troubles last year there was not one Steeler that I know of, that came to his defense. So it doesn't surprise me to hear Harrison taking shots at Rothlisbeger.

His comments about Goodell are completely different. He's going to get fined and/or suspended for that and probably should be. I like Goodel and have no problem with his tough stance on the league. Harrison is upset because they're protecting QBs and players in general, but you have to protect your workforce or there's league.

Players are being told to report to their teams on Friday.  Also, all owners and key executives are being required to attend the meeting right here in the ol' ATL on Thursday for important news.

FA is likely to start a week after the new, 10-year deal (allegedly) is signed.

As for James Harrison, I really never listen to anything he says.  Kind of like Joey Porter--you love him because he's on your team, but you'd hate him if he wasn't.  And I work with people I don't like all day long, but it's my job, and I'm not here for them, I'm here for my benefit.  I think it's probably a stretch to say all his teammates hate him, because if that was true, the Rooneys would have gotten rid of him.  But I'm sure there are many that feel like he's screwed up way too much to give him a pass anymore.

The latest I heard on ESPN radio this afternoon is Phi trading Kolb to Arz for a "superstar player" and not a draft pick.....speculation is Rodgers-Cromartie or Rolle. If that turns out to be true, then its a HUGE win for the Eagles.

- Also heard Seattle is interested in Tevaris Jackson for some reason.

Player for player trades are rare in the NFL, so I'd be surprised if the Cardinals and Eagles made that deal.

Nevertheless, it does look like Kolb is going to end up in Az. one way or another.

Owners have ratified agreement.  Players are now talking about voting tonight.

Oh, and the Hall of Fame game is officially cancelled.  Which sort of sucks as that's like a couple of weeks away, but I understand why.

Au7th(HoF game) is way to close to start a game.  Too many chances for injuries.  I heard some fool on the NFL Network say the college players get an all star game ready in a week-I wanted to remind him to stop being an NFL stooge and realize those players have already played a season and it's no biggie to start a game in a week.

It's a shit game any way.  Starters play a series.  2nd string maybe 2.  then it's all FA's.

Well, game on, I guess.  Adam Schefter is outlining the schedule that will begin today:

* Teams can sign FAs as early as this afternoon

* Teams can start talking to UFAs this afternoon as well, and start signing tomorrow at noon (ET, I'm assuming)

* Teams can begin trade talk today, but no trades would be official until Saturday

* Any UFAs that are signed this week will not take effect until Aug. 2, which is the "official" start date for the new league calendar.

* 30 of the teams will report spread across Wed-Fri, with the final 2 (Texans and Jets) reporting Sunday.

This is going to be the craziest week in FA we've seen in a long while.

Can't wait!

Roger Goodell: "Football is back."

EDIT:

My friend's response when I told him: "College football never went anywhere."

That moment between Jeff Saturday and Robert Kraft at the press conference was very touching.  I had no idea that Robert's wife had just died last week.  The way Robert bowed his head as soon as he heard his wife's name was very sad.

My wish list for Miami goes like this...

1) QB...Vince Young or Kyle Orton

2) RB Ahmad Bradshaw!

3) WR Plaxico Burress

Well, the Titans scooped up Matt Hasselbeck.  Donovan McNabb expected to land with Vikings later today.  Orton is definitely on the trade block, so keep your fingers crossed, fleed.

Martianman, I want the...inVINCEable Young as Miami's QB more!  I would add...Chad Henne to...any trade for a QB!

Are teams going to be interested in Young?  After the 2010 season, he seems like such a headache and pain in the ass.

Skins scooped up Barry Cofield and Donte Stallworth.  Could be an interesting season.

Titans said they will release Young on Thursday.

EDIT: Also I just read the 'Skins signed Kellen Clemens.

Paying a second rounder for McNabb, then trading him for a 6th the next year after benching him for Grossman and working hard to drive down his stock- I love the Redskins, Snyder, and Shanahan.  Once Haynesworth gets to Philly, their plans will come to full fruition.

Cardinals fans, welcome Kevin Kolb by the end of this week.  You will, however, have to say good bye to Rodgers-Cromartie in the process.

And Tavaris Jackson in Seattle?  Hmm...Ok Pete, I guess you know what you're doing.

NFL's first official trade since the lockout: Broncos trade Gaffney to Redskins for Jarmon.  Holy cow!  It's a blockbuster!

Jabar Gaffney AND Kellen Clemens???  Watch out, NFC east.

I'm very confused why the price of Kolb seems so high (and the Cardinals, bidding against themselves, seem intent on paying it) versus the price for Orton.  I don't think either are great, and I get that Kolb has more potential upside, but why DRC plus a 2nd round pick (supposedly) versus a 3rd or 4th round pick for Orton?  I just don't see that much of a difference to make it worth the price.

And the Bengals announce...That they're "aren’t going to reward" Palmer with a trade.  At least Mike Brown realizes it's a reward to get off his team.

ETA:  Fucking Gradkowski?!?

Frank Gore and DeSean Jackson are planning to hold out, and Chris Johnson is a possibility. Kinda feel sorry for fans of those teams that just want football, and to see their favorite players.

Skins also signed Stokley! Beckruber will have plenty of targets to not hit! I'm rather happy with their pickup of the Raven's Josh Wilson, good CB there.

I loved Stokley when he was in Indy.  I wish him nothing but the best as a Redskin, I hope they use his talents.

Redskins trade Haynesworth to the Pats for 5th rounder.  In 2013.  You stay classy, Dan Schneider.

Yeesh....great move by the Patriots. Low risk/high reward.

And looks like my beloved Chiefs will be singing WR Steve Breaston. I like that pickup a lot, but do kinda find it weird after the drafted Pitt WR Jonathon Baldwin in the first round. But if he pans out to be decent: Bowe, Breaston, Baldwin, Moeaki, and Charles/Jones out of the backfield.....that's a pretty good crew for Cassel. Just wish they still had Weis calling the shots.

fleed, you've got a new RB--Reggie Bush + city of Miami = LeBron's new BFF?  Also, rumor level is high that Orton will be the new QB in Miami as well.  Although a friend that is a Miami fan would rather have Vince Young (as you have said) just because he will probably be the cheaper option, or as my friend said, "Whoever we have to give up the least for."

8 - 5 heading to New England.

Haynesworth and now Ocho? My god, Belichick is creating an army. Love it.

LOVE Ochocinco here.  Despite the antics, dude goes hard.

Haynesworth on the other hand....no freaking clue how that will work out.

The Pats make moves and the Colts stay stagnant.. it's annoying.

WR Roy Williams to Chicago.  Sproles replaces Bush in New Orleans.  Bucs sign P Michael Koenen from the Falcons (wow...he's probably one of the top 3 punters in the NFL).  Rumors of Vince Young to Philly once he clears waivers.  Jonathan Joseph to the Texans.

*whew*  I'm out of breath.

EDIT: Vince Young has signed a 1 year deal with Philly.  Sorry, fleed.

New Orleans got Sproles? Jesus Christ. I didn't even know he was available. Now I wonder why Mia didn't go after him instead of Bush...

Regardless, great upgrade for the Saints. He's a pain in the ass for opposing teams.

I'm reading that the Dolphins are signing Matt Moore and bypassing the chance to trade for Orton.  If true, tough break, Fleed.  I think Henne is the lesser of two evils here.

Oh my god, the Bengals are completely falling apart.  I know they were held together with duct tape and misplaced hope before, but some of the moves they've been making during this free agency period are astounding.  Getting rid of Chad, sure, that's understandable, but losing Joseph (our corners were pretty much the only elite unit we had)?  Our Defensive Coordinator is understandably pissed:

"I'm upset, disappointed, frustrated," Zimmer said. "It's disappointing. You get good guys off the field, they work hard in the weight room and on the practice field and you kind of mold them what you want them to look like and they get out of here. I was under the assumption in the conversations I've had since before the lockout that we were going to get him back. I was pretty much told we were going to get him back," Zimmer said. "It will be interesting to see what the next guy is. Whether he's here, or at training camp, or on the street somewhere, or if he's on another team, or Canada. Who knows? You have to find somebody out there and play and if we can't find a guy exactly what we're looking for, we'll have to alter some of the things we're looking to do."

It sounds like the front office is actively working against him.  Ugh.  We're used to it in this town, but after the brief glimmer of hope we had last decade this is just too much.  I don't want a return to the dark decade of the 90's.  Congratulations Steelers, Ravens and Browns fans.  If you haven't been already, you can count on the Bengals for at least 2 wins each this year.

ETA: Oh wait, it's starting to make sense.  Goddamit.

Or http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/07/30/joseph-says-bengals-made-competitive-offer-but-move-was-no-brainer/

No one wants to stay a Bengal. Owner sucks (look no further than what is happening with Palmer). The Bengals are going to have to over pay to get good free agents to come to their town.

Michael Jenkins signs with the Vikings, meaning James Jones will probably re-sign with the Pack.  Meanwhile, the Eagles have also signed Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Ed Too Tall Jones, and Mean Joe Greene.

All kidding aside, I know the Steelers don't make big FA splashes, but I'm kind of disappointed that they didn't take a whiff at any of the DBs out there.  I wasn't expecting Rodgers-Cromartie or Ashmouga (sp?), but maybe Joseph or even Chris Carr.  Ike Taylor is most likely gone, which if you know me at all, you know I don't shed any tears there.  McFadden has to improve over last year, and Keenan Lewis is already running with the 1st team D.

I believe the Steelers have already signed Taylor. I guess they chose the devil they know.

Yeah, I saw that on NFL Network this morning.  Bleah.

So how do you Jets fans feel about having Plaxico on the team??

As a Steelers fan, I will continue to call him "Plexiglass".
