2011-2012 NFL season - Page 37

Unless Big Ben slipped and reinjured his ankle trying to rape her after seeing the pic, I don't think it was your fault.

...because, of course, no members of the Packers or Steelers are "good Christians." (FWIW, I don't know or care how many are or aren't; considering that the default for the country is something like 80% or more Christian, I'd assume a SIGNIFICANT # on both teams qualify as Christian, and probably half of them would be in the "good" category. Well here's the new "modified" overtime rules...

EDIT: HOLY SHIT, nevermind. TEBOW TIME INDEED

Son of a bitch!

That was a nice throw and a great run, but what the hell kind of defense was that?

That roaring celebration you hear is the collective sound and cheering from Baltimore and New England collectively because I don't give either the Broncos or Texans a chance against those two teams. Denver just made the AFC road to the SB the Pats and Ravens to loose.

Yep I jinxed it.

Props to Tebow for playing a good game, but Pittsburgh's D (including their coordinator) should be ashamed.

Denver cannot execute long, sustained drives, so... you essentially play goal line from 80 yards out?!? Even a run that breaks the line of scrimmage would be a TD against that D!

I don't think Tebow's an NFL-caliber QB, but he's still capable of hitting an open receiver about half the time. You can't let a simple slant end your season.

But hey, maybe Jesus forced Pittsburgh to play a 6-5-0 defense! :)

"THOU SHALT PLAY NONE DEEP."

I can almost hear LeBeau on the sidelines: "Hey, we're playing against Tebow.  Do we even NEED safeties?"

Skip Bayless is hard as a rock right now.

Isn't the one weakness of the Steelers defense their secondary (other the Palomalo)?? They clearly showed it on that play.

Can I say any more how much I absolutely despise Ike Taylor?  Like complete and unadulterated hate?  All they had to do was throw it at him all night--he would either allow the catch or get called for PI. What a fucknut.  I didn't expect the Steelers to go far in the playoffs, but for the defense, which was at half strength essentially, to blow it like that in OT when the offense finally started doing something--that's inexcusable.  And they even said that Tomlin warned them not to let WRs get behind them last night.  I would say that maybe now the Steelers will concentrate on drafting/acquiring competent DBs and Olinemen in the off-season...but I doubt it, since they didn't do it last season either.  Well, I'm done.  Luckily I was tiling during the game and wasn't sitting there watching it with a lot of focus or else I would have been a lot more pissed off.

Also, look like my prediction came true about comparing the '10 Seahawks with the '11 Broncos.  Too bad I didn't pick it that way.  Picks for next week

Patriots vs. Broncos (Belichick vs. the son of the son of God?  I'll take Belichick with newly acquired Josh McDaniels)

Ravens vs. Texans (call me crazy, but I think Baltimore blows it. I think they go in over-confident in confusing Yates and Foster runs wild.  Or maybe it's just 'cause I'm a Steelers fan)

Packers vs. Giants (Uh...duh.)

49ers vs. Saints (this is a tough one...I think it will be closer that everyone thinks.  But with the Saints' playoff experience I think they'll win)

Polamalu actually looked to be enjoying a nice jog on that play.

Polamalu has games where he looks like he's playing a completely different game than what's on the field.  Today was one of those games.  On the Tebow TD run, he dove head first at Tebow--from about 3 yards away and dove behind him.

One step closer to my dream Texans/Giants Superbowl I've wanted for the last I don't know how many years.

That wouldn't be much a ratings jugernaut would it.

Everyone watches the Super Bowl, regardless of who's playing.  Yes, great storylines such as the Saints getting to the big game will bump the rating up a bit, but the Super Bowl is never going to bomb in the ratings.

Man, I said the Pittsburgh D wasn't looking as good as years past, but wow, that was upseting to watch.

OK, no more football for me.

It's a shame that my home town is hosting the Super Bowl and I wont be there to witness the craziness.  And of course the last thing I want is a bunch of New England fans showing up..

Well, Nick, god willing a bunch of Packer fans will show up!  Giants look good, but I'm hoping the Packers get real right about now.  The talking heads are going off about Tebow, but Charles Woodson is the man to bring it home!

At least the Falcons game was over in the 3rd quarter.  I had pretty much given up on the Steelers game and then they had the audacity to come back and tie the game, pulling me back in again.

I'm waiting for superbowl final.. anyone there who can predict about finalist?

I predict final will be the team with best QB play and defense play good.

You're done huh? It must be hard to root for a team that consistently wins and gets to the playoffs.

What is best in life?  To crush your opponent, see their quarterback driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their cheerleaders.

C'mon.  He was being blocked by 2 people on that play.  He tried in desperation to shoot low between the two of them but he didn't have a shot regardless.

No, I was done with my rant.  The frustrating part is that, for the last 2-3 years, the same problems have doomed this team in the playoffs.  Shitty/no depth at Oline, and awful play from the CBs.  But nothing seems to ever get changed.  But yeah, I get the same earful from my buddy who is a Vikings fan about "Yeah, cry me a river about your shitty team that makes the playoffs every year and has won Super Bowls this century."

For that OT play?  Yeah, they were completely selling out for the run, according to multiple defensive player interviews post-game.  Mundy (the safety that took Ryan Clark's place) said that he was supposed to have the underneath coverage, and Taylor was over the top (which he obviously didn't get) on the WR.  Farrior also said he sold out for the run, but didn't know who else did.

As for Polamalu, I must say the OC for Denver did a great job at baiting Polamalu into breaking the opposite direction that Tebow was throwing the ball multiple times...and this could be more because of the play-calling from Denver's offense in general, but I was just aggravated with Troy's play because he seemed to be out of position a lot.  I also wonder if he was trying to make up for Clark not being back there and was trying to make too many plays.

On to other news, looks like Crennel is your new KC head coach, for what that's worth.

Ha ha, Bucs are reportedly interviewing Marty Schottenheimer.  Yes, Marty Schottenheimer.  Would love to see him take job, get Bucs to Super Bowl and play Norv's Chargers, and then destroy them.

There's actually a pretty vocal contingent of Bucs fans who have been campaigning pretty hard for Schottenheimer.  They're terrified of the prospect of Sherman or Wade Phillips, but don't seem to have a problem with Marty.

Honestly, I'd be fine with any of those three.  Sherman's undoing was being an awful GM, Phillips has this knock as a bad coach when all he does is go places and win, and the same holds true for Schottenheimer.  Let's sniff .500 or better consistently before we start worrying about how our coach did in the playoffs previously.

As a Browns fan, I yearn for the Schottenheimer days of yore, even though his seasons tended to end in heartbreaking playoff losses.  I admit that his "There's a GLEAM" pregame speech still makes me laugh, though.

As a Chiefs fan, I miss Marty as well. Hell, he even made me enjoy the Chargers there for awhile, before he got screwed by AJ Smith. Marty deserves another shot in the NFL.

I like that you capitalized He.  Subliminally his (His) standpoint is working on you!

If I'm the Steelers today, I'm requesting the NFL investigate the existence of God and Tim Tebow's status as the second coming of Christ as operating with an unfair advantage, much like a steroid user. At the least, Ike Taylor should be telling everyone he knows that some unseen force was preventing him from being close enough to stop that play.

Also Dan, how many yards did Tebow throw for? 316.

316.

316

316

3:16

John 3:16

It is written.

Doc Happenin, That is what John Fox told John Elway after the game...John, 316 Yards is...unGODly for Tim T!

Schottenheimer's a significantly better coach than either of those other guys.

Schottenheimer 200-126, 5-13 playoffs

Phillips 82-61, 1-5 playoffs, retardedly started Rob Johnson over Doug Flutie, looks like lost seal

Sherman 57-39, 2-4 playoffs, can't do 2-point conversion math*, no history apart from Favre

* = in a playoff game, scored to go up 8, then went for 2 because he wanted to be up 10... that is a bad coach.

Most of Schottenheimer's playoff losses were to guys like Elway and Brady.

Taylor "apologized" on his Twitter account for having his "worst game at the worst time".  Whatever dude.  I thought you sucked before the game, and I think you suck even more afterward.

News is that Josh McDaniels is spilling the "secrets" of the Broncos offense and Tebow to the Pats staff.  What is that, like a 10 minute conversation?  Also, what are the odds that Tebow refers to Josh as "Judas" by mistake in an interview?

Tebow and the Broncos are in the same position with this game as they were with the regular season meeting with New England.  If they win, the legend continues.  If they lose, well, what did you expect, they were on the road playing the Patriots!

As bad as well all seem to think he is, I have to admit I think he has done enough to be the presumptive starter heading into next season, regardless of what happens against NE.  Don't you guys feel that way?  At least see what happens with a full offseason, training camp, etc...

Mike Greenburg was making the point this morning that Tebow has basically started 16 games in his career, and what other starting QB has been written off as a total failure after 16 games?

Well, none, but Tebow is different.  Tebow supporters like to point out how his "rookie" stats are better than XYZ, but the difference is that regardless of how many picks someone like Eli or Peyton or Elway threw, there were the observable skills that these guys could play big boy quarterback.  With Tebow, it's sort of the opposite, is it not?  He is having early success, but hasn't really demonstrated that he can play quarterback the way people believe it needs to be played in the modern era.  I have heard it mentioned that perhaps the position is being redefined, but to me that would be by guys who have extra skills, not by guys whose skillset is specialized and limited.  Nevertheless, given his intangibles, and the fact that his passing seems to be improving, I think he has earned a chance to show how much he can grow... which could admittedly be way more than I think he is capable of.

I agree, and I also don't think any of this is Tebow's fault.  He's been nothing but humble and gracious.  It's the media that's been hyping him up into the savior of the QB position.

That said, until someone other than a traditional pocket passer wins a Super Bowl, I'll pass on these hybrid types.

The great Hue Jackson experiment is over in Oakland. That didn't take long...it's almost like Al is still running the team!
