AMC screens the Extended Editions to promote Blu-Ray release.

Let the squeeing commence...

SQUEE!

I must do this.

I wonder if RD's already heard the news.  I wonder what they'll do for this in Australia...

Pity this won't happen here. Oh well, I guess I'll have to console myself with a 13 hour marathon at home.
Me too. I still haven't finished the cast commentaries.

How much of an upcharge on ticket prices does AMC generally have for these events?  Probably not the standard price if the screen will be occupied for 683+ minutes.  Silly question, I know, but I'm not too familiar with AMC policy and I have never attended one of their special showings (concert screenings, community business screenings, film retrospectives, etc).

Are you thinking that they're doing a marathon of all 3 EEs in one go?  From what I'm reading, that's not what's happening.  Each Tuesday leading up to the blu-ray release will feature one of the EEs being shown at AMC theaters.

Seeing as how the Back to the Future thing that AMC did earlier this year cost the same price as any other ticket, I'm pretty sure they won't charge a premium price for this.

Yeah, just realized that.  Thanks.

Apparently it's not even a film print or digital 4K equivalent. It's a digital projection of the blu-ray. Not worth the $30+ bucks.

LOTR, at least TTT and ROTK, were edited in a digital intermediate at 2K.  4K is impossible without rebuilding the edit and doing the FX from scratch.

I'm not a hardcore tech guy. Why would a digital projection of a (presumably high quality) blu-ray look awful?

It won't. It could just look better.

(especially depending on the screen size. I doubt these theaters will be showing this on their "premium" screens anyway).

Well, I'm in the US and still not anywhere near an AMC Theater.   So close and yet so far away.

You poor saps. Here in Austin, we get this every year in the form of a day-long, 13-meal package marathon at the Alamo Drafthouse. WITH 35MM PRINTS.

"You must be pretty sick of it by now, right?"

"No one who saw the movie would say that."

"LET'S GET HIM!"

"HYAH!!!"

This sounds like it could be painful. ROTK, the theatrical cut, already feels 12 hours long.

Well, there's breakfast, second breakfast, elevensies, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, supper and I'm sure there are a few snacks in there for good measure.
