I agree. The popularity of The Walking Dead is evidence of this. And I think a lot of that popularity stems from a new media addressing an established sub-genre. Zombie films, however, are currently done to death. Every hip, actiony thing has been done within the last few years. World War Z was a good read, and could make an interesting film, but I think they passed the window of maximum profit potential, and the money men have got to see that. Especially for a genre that has never really lit up the box office in the first place.
I just don't see it. They can do it, and it could be great, but I still think it would make more sense to let some other subgenres spin their wheels for a while and give the public some undead rest.
And yeah, totally agreed about the superhero genre, and I was once the target audience.
