The Iron Giant

Finally checked this out after hearing nothing but good things over the past decade - And it lived up to the hype, much to my surprise.

I pretty much loved everything about this - The neat and kinda retro art style, the humor, the top notch voicework, and especially the direction. The movie navigated a lot of interesting territory using a fairly typical story as its framework, but it never fell back on cliches or felt obvious. I definitely didn't expect to get a little misty eyed by the end, but sure enough... this movie was definitely a pleasant surprise.

Major props to Christopher McDonald for his work as Mansley, the obsessed agent - One of the funnier performances I've ever seen in an animated movie.

Iron Giant stands up for me as one of the best animations of, well... ever. I'm glad that people are still discovering it, even if it is, many years too late. It's also one of the few films that almost had me crying at a point.

All of Brad Bird's output is great, but IMO he's never been better. Just something about cell animation that really suits his style.

I had never seen this before and I remember Nick mentioning how much he loved it in a piece maybe, like, two years ago? ahahaha! But anyways... I finally watched it I think back in March or April. I loved it. Absolutely LOVED IT! You're right Belmont about Chris McDonald. He did a great job and I remember his voice cracked at one point and it just seemed so natural. All the actors did a great job and really brought their A game for this one.

I kind of wish that I had seen this when it came out originally. I think that it would have had a bigger impact on me. But still... so happy I finally saw this. It should be on a list of movies that kids must see.
