PIXAR WON'T BE MAKING MINE MARVEL

All in due time I'm sure.

No, I think Lasseter is being truthful: there won't be any Marvel movies made with the Pixar brand. That doesn't mean there won't be any animated movies from Disney about Marvel characters, though. Marvel studios is its own thing, and while the Pixar + Marvel idea gets nerds geekgasming, it makes sense to keep the brands separate. "Marvel" appeals to a slightly older, cooler audience than "Pixar" (remember the small but vocal contingent who were claiming that Disney's purchase of Marvel would result in everything being kiddified, apparently unaware that Disney owned a studio that released Quentin Tarantino movies?)

But that's all it is: a brand thing. The world of animation is a very fluid one, and a lot of people don't seem to realize how many animators are passing back and forth from company to company, even at the higher levels. A whole bunch of the same people who worked on, say, Kung Fu Panda probably worked on Finding Nemo. Animators go where the projects are, only a handful of top creatives tend to be permanently affiliated with any one company. And even that is sometimes ephemeral, as Chris Sanders can tell you.

This is probably even more true within Disney. The long and the short of it is, any animated movies are going to originate from Marvel studios, so it's up to them. It's possible that some enterprising Pixar employee may pop over and pitch an ambitious theatrical Dr. Strange movie, which would be released under the Marvel banner (probably via Touchstone, like The Nightmare Before Christmas was). That's probably the closest we'd ever get to the idea people have in their heads of "Pixar doing a Marvel character", and it's a little farfetched. At the other end of the scale, you could see it as Marvel now having access to a new batch of topflight animators and story people for their DTDVD animated movies, which they're already making (and which seem to be pretty lousy). But it all comes down to whether Marvel wants to pursue the idea of ambitious animated movies or not.
