Gavin Hood huh. Tsotsi was great but Wolverine was shit. Ender's Game seems like a slam dunk with the right director and actor but without both its a risky move.

Wolverine was flaming ass, but Hood's still 3 for 4... Guess I'll be cautiously optimistic.

Looks lke they found their Ender! Asa Butterfield from the new film Hugo.

I used to love these books when I was in middle school, but the many sequels and spin-offs become grating, followed by Card's anti-gay rants that turned me off.

Doubt a movie can work with an all-young cast and not come across as a Disney film. Maybe Hunger Games will prepare people for kid-on-kid violence, but probably not.

Was announced the other day it is filming here in NOLA February to June of next year.

Wow, had no idea this was this close to happening. Despite the residual hatred I have for Card (unlike, say, Frank Miller, who I've always seen as a laughably over-the-top figure and therefore inoffensive, Card is someone whose works I read and enjoyed for years, and which seem to preach pretty much the exact opposite of what his real-world politics are) this is still a solid story if, as you say, they don't pussy out on making it about kids doing genocidal shit. (I wonder if The Hunger Games has played a role in getting this to the screen?)

One thing I will say for Card, apparently he was really adamant about having the War School be a truly international, multiracial bunch, and got pissed off at the Hollywood types who kept insisting that they had to keep it as white as possible.

I've been saying for years that a film version of Ender's Game will play like the Anakin parts of Phantom Menace extended to feature length, and with Kurtzman and Orci writing I'm not given a lot of confidence otherwise.  Add in how repellent a human being Card is, and I've no intention of ever seeing this.

Don't have much faith in this. The novel is so amazing. Its a brilliant work. Divorced of every other baggage like item in the universe or writers life.

Good luck Hood. You fail and someone else will nail it eventually.

Now there is talk of Ben Kingsley joining the cast, this is rumor I mind you, pure pure rumor!
