It looks like it could be good too. I love her chewing out the hipsters.

Dennings finally gets tasered back. Took awhile, but the universe eventually evens these things out.

Hm. Calling this show dead on arrival. Sorry, dudes.

Yeah, looks terrible.

Laugh track?  Immediate hate.

So can an Asian guy not get a part in Hollywood without doing the broken English thing?

He's like a poor (white) man's Ken Jeong.  Ugh.

My God, it's like a parody of a terrible sitcom.

I would sell my soul to be her love slave. I'm currently sitting in the middle of a pentagram to make that happen.

Dennings has the hotter body, but Portman is much prettier.

They're both nice. Debating their merits makes you all fools.

god that's horrible.   the laugh track...damn it

They basically show the entire episode in that brief clip.

It looks like she may have finally fixed her teeth.

I don't like you.

Something's wrong with her teeth? Never noticed. I was too busy drooling.

Shes great in that. The other girl not so much. No I don't watch Sitcoms.

Yup. It looks like something Judd Apatow would have in one of his films. "She's a sassy waitress strugggling to make ends meet. She's an upper-class daddy's girl who just got downgraded to lower-class. Together with their sterotypical Asian manager and random token black guy who sits at the counter and makes shitty jokes, they are... 2 BROKE GIRLS". This kind of thing was cliche in 1994. At least if they added in a mind-reading dog who could talk or a break-dancing robot sidekick, I would think the writers were in on the joke a little bit.

So it looks like I'm gonna be giving my first mutli-camera sitcom a go in a long time.

Seriously, how exactly can THIS air in family-friendly viewing hours?!?!

Mama!

I was pleasantly surprised by the cum stain jokes.

It's actually not terrible. It may be worth a look.

Just watched it. There's the kernels of a great show in there. Kind of reminds me of a racier Two Guys and a Girl actually.

The girls interacting is fun. There's some chemistry going on. But everyone in the dinner must die.

YES. The cook is the worst type of bullshit sitcom character. And poor Garrett Morris deserves better than the lame puns they've given him.

But there's some potential here. Kat Dennings is very good in this and there was one out-of-nowhere gag in the subway scene that got a big laugh. And I can see the concept (raising X amount of money) working a lot better in the long run than some other sitcoms' (does anyone really care who the mother is in HIMYM?).

But sad to see that of the new fall network pilots so far, 2 Broke Girls is one of the better ones and it's merely OK.

Surprised by the semi-semi-warm reactions to the show from this notoriously tough crowd. I get it.  Dennings just has unique talent for making even the most dire shit watchable.

But, I'm sorry, this show is the direst of shits. I was honestly stunned watching it how painfully terrible the writing and acting were (K.D. notwithstanding - she does her darndest with lines that would send most comic talents racing for the door). This is the type of sitcom that would have been embarrassing in the late 1990s. It's some straight up UPN quality, cringe-inducing filler for the most undiscerning of viewers.

Frankly, I hope Dennings manager is frantically searching the contract for loopholes at this very moment.

She was so frikkin delightful on Fergy the other night I damn near had a coronary

Yeah, the second episode killed any goodwill I had left from the pilot.

Yeah, this is really weird.  I've read from several different outlets about how a good show is hidden in here.  To me, it just looks like a generic, formulaic sitcom that even fails on that level.    And that sucks because Dennings really deserves better than this.

Agreed, this show doesn't even approach anything I would consider mediocre.  That being said, I'm still watching, but I'd stare a still picture of Kat for 30 minutes every Monday without much of a complaint.

Can I ask: why is Dennings in a sitcom? I was surprised when I read about this. Isn't she a movie star who just appeared in one of the years biggest blockbusters? Why would she tie herself down to a tv shooting schedule?
Appearing in a big movie is a bit different than starring. Hell, even starring isn't necessarily going to set you up for bigger and better things. How's Elijah Wood's career looking post-Rings franchise?

A TV series, especially if it lasts a while is a steady gig. That's some nice security.

Fair enough, it just seems like normally people her age try and break through going the other direction (Amanda Seyfried). I can understand someone older like a Maria Bello or a Gary Senise seeing TV as a chance to do good work and make the kinds of money they no longer could in film. Dennings is just starting out though, and correct me if I'm wrong, but becoming known for being in a sitcom isn't the optimum way to get bigger and better film roles. This reads like she's giving up on being a movie star. I generally enjoy her screen presence, so I hope that is not the case

EDIT And Wood could be a victim of his own success. His break out role was SO huge that now the public can only see him as Frodo - and I bet the same goes for many casting directors. Dennings was not yet tied down in that way
post #86 of 128

I don't think the TV stigma is what it once was, especially considering stuff like the cable shows that are all the rage these days.  Now, her show is in no way on that level, but there are sitcoms out there  that I would read as good enough to garner street cred in Hollywood.  (Community, HIMYM...)  I mean damn, Charlie Sheen made mad money from Two and a Half Men, the likes of which most non-super A list types would envy, and like most people today, even celebs have to like having a secure job.  Being on a top rated show has got to be the best long term job in the business, see the pay scale for the last few seasons of Friends as a reference.

Kat Dennings was never a movie star. Hell, I doubt 95% of the population even know her name. As mentioned, she's never headlined a huge movie and she's never done anything award worthy either. Compare her with a female movie star like Natalie Portman or Amy Adams who do both... there's a huge difference.

471

Because there hasn't been a pick of Kat in awhile.

I think this sitcom just feels very out of place for her. She has a star quality to her it just doesn't seem to utilize. She seems like she'd be ideal for a smart comedy film script. Though, I guess maybe easier said than done but this seems the wrong fit for her all around. The lame contrived exchange with the hipsters in the diner seems like something out of a Nickelodeon show or something.

I certainly don't mind photos of Dennings, but PLEASE!  No more of the ones with that freaky eye make-up!  It scares me!  Hahahaha

That's it!

I was trying to put my finger on what this show reminded me of and its this.  It seems like it was written by adults for children who wish that they were adults.  It even has a horse that lives in their backyard, which sounds like something straight out of That's So Raven.

I think Kat is great on the show and I've gotten a couple of good laughs in the first three episodes. The overall show is just good enough to make me watch it every week. If it was canceled, I would survive just find.

Because I love each and every one of you....

Have any of you noticed her sitcom is created and produced by Whitney Cummings?

Hey these photots are nice but weren't there nudes not too long ago?

Ohh and uhh yeah Phil Whitney Cummings the creator. She is a good stand up and great at those roasts but these shows.....ohh. I will say there there is something to be said for how much studios fuck with tv. I mean if you think movie directors get fucked that is NOTHING compared to sitcoms. I listen to the Adam Carolla podcast and he was never shy about giving details about the production of his pilot. The notes he got and the changes he was forced to make were hilarious. Then the pilot didn't even get picked up. Basically any edge and meaness they try to edit out. Actually just rent the Judd Apatow produced The Tv Set.

I mention because Whitney's sitcom was crucified weeks before airing, but people are somehow surprised that this show is also terrible.

I'm kinda bummed that she seems to have had her teeth "fixed."

She may have been self-conscious about them, though. It's hard to find a photo of her showing them.

Still, it's kind of like when Bowie had his fixed. Totally killed that semi-vampiric thing he had going.

Kat's adorable either way, but the less-than-perfect teeth kind of endeared her to me.

Oh no! She probably listened to her dentist and fixed some crowding issues before they became real problems later in life! Damn you, Hollywood and your image problems!

Since they were gapped, I'm not sure where the crowding issue comes in.

The pic is so I don't derail this thread into being all about 2 Broke Girls. That said, I do think the show should cut back in the hipster references. I'm from Pittsburgh; we don't have hipsters. Everybody here is too busy being obsessed with the Steelers to be hip.
