Hello - Page 11

So I was doing a google search of my name, because of Diva's thread and my own personal vanity, and I stumbled across the Derp Boards. Turns out that guys I've not interacted with for years still have an axe to grind with me, which makes me sad. What's even scarier is that I don't even know some of them, or didn't interact with them at all.

Because as much as I try and post about movies and join in the discussion the abiding memory of my Chud experience is always going to be that of a massive, joyless, aspy cunt. So if there's anyone here who I've upset since I started posting here I genuinely apologise, you can send me a PM detailing exactly what it is and I'll come up with an apology if you want.

What is a Derp board?

It's a fan site for Johnny Derp. Johnny Depp's cousin who has become a sensation on Myspace.

Jeez, Spike, how far down the rabbit hole did you go? I'm at page eight of a search with Spike Marshall and no sign of the TFL boards.

Maybe he was searching for "Spike Marshall cunt"?

That just gets you a fanboy wank of Mid 90's Jennifer Anniston photoshopped into Vasquez's body armor in Aliens.

I stand by what I initially said. I was a cunt and I readily apologise for that, and I'm especially sorry to Alex for anything I ever said about his work for MCP or his articles. Your voice is REALLY missed here and I was always a dick about it.

Charge your glasses and Guys and Dolls. To CHUD!

What a legend.

Thanks for the shout-out, mate! It's been an absolute pleasure every step of the way since you arrived on these boards. Even when you tease us with extended waits for new blog posts, you break out a mock-up poster or a perfectly phrased quip and it's like you never went away.

Indeed, it was. I still hope to repeat it at some stage this year. That is, if the rest of you gentlemen are still up for it?

Spike you are a man with strong opinions which is something i have always respected you for.  You are ok in my book

I would totally be up for it.  But it's just so tricky to make it happen.  I imagine it would be even more difficult this time around.

I appreciate that Ken, but I didn't write this to get people to say 'aw geez, you're not as bad as all that'. I'm genuinely horrified at how I'm viewed by people.

Naturally i'm in on the Transformers watching as well.

Spike I know you didnt post it for that reason. What i am trying to say in my own ham fisted way is that this is the internet - it's full of people you should not give two sh*ts about.  There are always going to be people who want to hate for no good reason.

To quote a friend of mine:

"Remember everyone... be an Optimist Prime, not a Negatron. We can make this happen!!!"

No question, the odds are even more stacked against us now than they were last year. But isn't that all the more incentive to press on anyway? Won't that make our potential triumph all the sweeter?

I say we set a date, get a head-count, and take it from there. Let's light our darkest hour, people.

Also, Spike is a top man and the boards (and the front page) are stronger for having him.

Spike, you ARE as bad as all that and I love you.  Because of it AND in spite of it!

I bought The Wire: The Complete Series today. Heard so many good things that I figured I'd just blind buy it. Getting a pay bonus from work yesterday didn't hurt either.

Comment redacted, because I've already spent far too much time letting this shit get beneath my skin.

This is the best thing you have ever done Rene. The Wire will ruin all future television for you. It is the only thing I have ever seen that has completely exceeded the hype.

It is astonishing. Congratulations!

Maybe you should stop being a passive aggressive jackass when you post and people won't get on your case. You have a veritable encyclopedic knowledge of select genres Spike and that's pretty fucking awesome but you always treat that knowledge like it's the sign that you are the second coming of Pauline Kael. You're not. You're just some fucking guy from Leeds on the internet.

It clearly bugs the fuck out of you that people don't like you or don't like how you post so why not fucking change? No matter how bad your Aspergers is I'm sure you can find a way to make the same points without being an insufferable twat about it.

Here's the thing, though, Spike. I don't think you want to change. I think you're perfectly happy seeing yourself as the iconclastic prick who rubs people the wrong way. You see it as a sign that you're superior because you don't have to worry about social niceties (Fuck, you practically said that yourself at one point).

Faaaaark Ryan, quit crapping on my undying love for you. I wish you still enjoyed this place like you used to but if you don't then I hope you found someplace else to have a good time yapping about cinema.

Just, for fuckdammit's sake, realise that if the only reason you're dropping in nowadays is to crap on stuff then it's not Spike who looks like the twat. Mofo apologised; and besides, why give anyone the power to irritate you like Spike seems to? I mean, I know he does that annoying thing where he apostrophisizes the possessive "its", but he's by far one of the most perceptive and articulate guys on the board. It seems odd to make him the enemy.

Probably one of the best shows of the 00s. If you can try and avoid reading too much about it before you start watching, it's not a show hinged on shocks and twists and surprises but it's also the sort of thing where I think too much knowledge of where certain characters end up might rob the show of a lot of it's power.

I've also never seen The Wire.

I guess it's time I got around to it too.

I've noticed that British people really seem to like it. I wonder why that is.

I know Charlie Brooker is particularly effusive about the show, and The Guardian <3 it big time, but I've never really encountered any unreasonable British love for the show. It's just REALLY fucking good.

Thanks, Mike! It's praise like yours that led to me blind buying the set yesterday from Amazon. It would have to really really shitty for me to hate it. I'll be saying at least what I initially think about it in here, and in The Wire thread.

The only major tidbits I'm aware of are what happens to Stringer Bell and that Detective John Munch shows up in a cameo in season 5. Other than that, there's not much I do know, so I'm really looking forward to the ride the show is going to take me on.

Saw DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK this week (go see it!). Caught my wife's cold and slept 15 hours last night as a result of it. Trying to muster up the energy and stop coughing long enough to see POTA tonight with a Regal club pass that expires today.

I mustered up the strength and was glad I did. POTA was pretty darn good. Now to make myself go to sleep (sleep schedule's all FUBAR now).

Serious business has transpired; the town police have mandated an evacuation of the trailer park where I rent in preparation for the hurricane that's due to arrive tomorrow. I'm packed up and on my way across the state to weather the storm with Papa Reasor and his second wife, Frau Blucher.

It remains to be seen whether their cable service includes Adult Swim or BBC America.

What state are you in Reasor?

The southeast corner of Connecticut.

I'm within walking distance of the Navy Base, right where the Thames runs into the Atlantic. It's hilly, so some spots flood more than others.

I'm back home now. No visible property damage, but the power is out. It's on a few blocks away and the neighbors report that it went down at 11AM Sunday morning, so I reckon they've shut it down just to work safely on a damaged line somewhere.

ETA: Posting like this brings to mind my immense distaste for texting. The iPhone's virtual keyboard was clearly designed for users with dainty little girl hands, as opposed to registered deadly weapon hands like mine. I need to find and download a "typing for badasses" app, with huge meaty buttons. If they made a noise like thunder when you push them, that would be a bonus, but just being able to type comfortably would suffice.

TLDR version: white people problems.

Got a new job!  So handed in notice for my old job and now face 6 week wind down.

Still in I.T. but moving away from Windows towards infrastructure (SANs, VMWare, WAN config etc).  Was feeling quite stagnated in my old job so it's going to be great to have a new challenge (apparently I thrive on challenge and feeling stagnant just leads to depression for me).

Goodbye to my company car though.  Wife wants me to get a double cab ute as a replacement.  While I approve of this in the "kiwi fulla" stakes I'm mildly concerned it's overkill.

Tonight I will be going to see Hanna as it's finally made it's way down here.

This is the hello thread, so...Hello. I've been reading the site for, I dunno, something like 7 or 8 years, I think. I've occasionally lurked around the forum, which is probably what I'll mostly still be doing, but at least joining in is now an option.
