NEWS I HAVE TO WRITE ABOUT: STAR WARS BLU-RAY DETAILS

Special Features announced for the upcoming Star Wars Blu-Rays.

I'll be picking up the complete saga, without a doubt.

I'm more interested in the archival docs (where the hell is From Star Wars to Jedi: The Making of a Saga dammit???) than anything else, but the non-surprising lack of the original versions is still inexcusable. I'm in no hurry for this dip.

Yes. It's gone beyond the "George Lucas is an asshole" thing. In this day and age of amazing box-sets like the Blade Runner set and so many others, it's totally inexcusable to just wipe the theatrical versions from existence.

And I'm sorry, but throwing people a pathetic bone by putting an anamorphic Standard Definition transfer of the theatricals wouldn't be good enough either (as some sort of suggest). Show the films that actually made history the same love and respect (if not more) that you do to these new abominations (or "films" if you want to be nice about it).

Sigh, having said that I might, might buy the original trilogy. Might.

No Empire of Dreams, though. I guess I'm holding on to that disc after all.

Profound lack of surprises, but yeah, gimme the complete saga.

Well then please please nab those sets with the CHUD links guys... I will personally stuff blowjobs into envelopes and mail them to you.

I just want you to remember that this was your idea, not mine, Renn.

Was hoping for copies of the originals to be included. But alas, no. Mother fuck these sets.

Yeah, never going to buy this.

I'm a Star Wars nut...don't even hate the Special Editions or Prequels, but I might be skipping this one, too.  Not just due to the exclusion of the original theatrical versions (Come on George...you're a freaking multi-billionaire...throw a few million out and gussy them up with a proper re-master and widescreen transfer and not only do you make more money but you regain a fair measure of goodwill from a lot of folks that have written you off), but because 6 years from now we'll get the "3D Saga" after he's done releasing all his re-redone films in post-converted 3D.

I'm going to get this set, but the special features look boring as hell. I don't care about the spoofs.

Not gonna get this till it's cheaper somehow.  Even if I bought the set, I wouldn't watch it.  I just don't watch Star Wars anymore.

...or the blokes who dress up as the 501st.

Will be giving this a miss.

I work with a guy who's in the 501st..and well...yeah..no thanks

Why is it that even though I couldn't care less about Star Wars I'm still kinda interested in this boxset.

Renn/Nick, on a tangential note. Any chance you could provide amazon.co.uk links. I shop through Amazon all the time, be nice to be able to help Chud out.

I'll check them out with netflix, but I feel no need to buy them.

Really dig the prequel and original trilogy set artwork.  Love the concept of the Complete Series box, but something about the execution feels a little off to me.

I'd have been perfectly fine with the Phantom Menace teaser poster as the complete series box art. Regardless how the film turned out, that's still an amazing image.

The trilogy boxes are a mess, though.

My younger self is astonished that my older self doesn't want to buy this.  Then again my younger self bought the Me, Myself, & Irene DVD on release day, so what does he know anyway?

Same here.  I like the sets artwork, but the Complete Series does seem a bit off. Kind of like they went with their first idea.  They should have just paid Drew Struzan an insane amount of money to come out of retirement and paint the Series cover.

So that gaudy ass art is actually the covers? I thought they were just colors?

Also, what special features (if any) are on the individual trilogy releases? Or are you totally fucked if you don't want the prequels? Maybe I'm not buying this crap afterall.

Compared to the ugly photoshopped covers for each of the DVDs for the whole series, I really like the painterly look of these new covers.  The complete saga art does look unfinished though.

Each set features the three films, plus the extra disc with deleted scenes and such relative to its trilogy.  The Complete Saga exclusively gets the documentaries.

Thanks. I looked around and couldn't find anything on this.

Christ -- why aren't they including the previous documentaries? I was planning on getting rid of the 2004 boxed set because I fully expected to see everything ported over. In addition to "Empire of Dreams," does this mean that the existing Prequel extras weren't carried over, either? (Including the web documentaries, and that excellent "The Beginning" documentary?)

Instead, we get a documentary about action figures. Yet, I'll still be getting this.

Katie Lucas choose the box art because it was "pretty".

Seriously.

I just managed to get hold of the Theatrical Releases on DVD. I have no desire to get the "jiggied with" versions on Blu Ray.
