TOMB RAIDER TO BE TACKLED BY THE CHILDREN OF IRON MEN

Solid blockbuster screenwriters start work on a reboot of a lame franchise.

If not for the "origin" bit, I'd have suggested Emily Blunt, though that would just be an unpleasant reminder that she passed on being the sexiest Black Widow imaginable to make that Gulliver movie. But if they're going to show us young Lara getting her first guns or whatever, then it's probably going to be someone who right now is young enough to not really be on the radar yet.

The thing about the two Tomb Raider movies is that, as with Doc Savage and The Shadow, they did exactly one thing right: they actually found a great choice for the title role, but that was about it; pretty much everything else is irrepressibly drab and awful.

Career-wise, it may not have been the best move, but it's not like Blunt missed out on a great role with Black Widow. That character as written and especially as portrayed by Johansson, was garbage. Also, the only person that should sign up for this lame role is any one of the attractive nobodies from Loaded magazine.

Edit (taken from the comments): "Since they’re doing a Lara Croft origin story in the newest upcoming “Tomb Raider” game that attempts to make her more relatable while simultaneously explaining her skills, I have to wonder if this movie porject is somehow supposed to be tied into that game".

Wait...they actually feel the need to do this for a video game character? Really? If it makes me sound old and out of touch for thinking that is preposterous, then so be it.

Blunt's my favorite suggestion so far. She's got the sensuality, accent, and figure (or at least more of a figure than the other suggestions). And she deserves a decent franchise after losing the Marvel character.

Totally hormonal pick (while hoping for Andy Sidaris exploitive elements)? Kelly Brook.

I don't completely disagree, but with a stronger actress in the role, I could see it being spun off into a strong franchise. And even if all I'd got out of it was Blunt instead of Johansson in the fight scene, that would have been OK with me.
