RACHEL WEISZ AND THE BOURNE WHO LOVED HER

I really don't care which roles she chooses as long as she's in movies. All the movies. She's pretty much the definition of the total package.

I'd actually prefer seeing Weisz in the central role over Renner personally.

I love Weisz and like Renner, but I really have no desire to watch a Bourne movie without Damon. Unless Renner's character isn't actually Bourne but just exists in the same universe, I'm still not clear on this??

That's exactly what they're doing. Leaves the door for Damon to return if possible down the line.

I hope they're not adapting the "James Bond is really a code name for different agents..." meme. Given the shit nature of the books (well, the first one, which is the only one I read), and the utter crap TV movie with Chamberlain, these films turned out far better than anyone had a right to expect, and I'd hate to see that dumped on for the sake of keeping the franchise going.

That said, I love Weisz, of course, and I'll see her in just about anything.

I can't think of Renner without recalling Timothy Olyphant's story of coming from the same town as Renner, and that whenever Olyphant's mom sees Renner on TV someplace like the Oscars, she asks her son why he's not getting high-profile movie roles "... like that nice Jeremy Renner."

It would make sense since Jason Bourne is actually a made up person in the film's fiction. No one said that Damon was the only Bourne the CIA ever used.

I agree that Weisz taking over the Bourne role would be a much more interesting choice.  I like Renner but the thing that I think made this franchise so cool when it started was that Damon was the kind of guy who didn't scream bad ass at the time so when he first kicks the living shit out of those cops and is stunned by his abilities you really believe.  Renner on the other hand both looks and has already played guys who are bad ass government agents so that surprise just won't work as well.

It'd also be extremely hot to watch Weisz punch somebody in the throat.
