This is as necessary a remake as a fifth leg on a dog and about as relevant to the original. Rod Lurie is the worst kind of hack. One with delusions of competence and substance.

Interesting how this day started off with great ideas for a remake(The Scorsese/von Trier Obstruction project), and then went back to the same ol, same ol; which would be this future flick that time will forget.

Insult to injury is that this movie has a kind of good cast. I wish I could talk about some other flick having a Generation Kill reunion("Iceman" Skarsgaard, Billy "Trombly" Lush), and this one ain't worthy.

It also has Walton Goggins, too. So this movie will be good in the sense that it helps him buy a couple of airplane tickets to Tibet, or something. Just a shame that all involved are doing glossed over Delieverence type stuff that's been tired since forever.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again: someone needs to remake Lurie's The Contender. But change it to where Joan Allen's character really did get gangbanged, and she liked it.

I'll be the one to say it. I liked that trailer, and I'll definitely be seeing it in the theater. Love the original, but as usual, I'm open to seeing a remake. Only negative is a severe lack of Walton Goggins and James Woods in that trailer.

Marsden looks appropriately nerdy, then unleashes the beast within.

I didn't catch that was Trombly! I had a dim realization after the fact that it was a Superman Returns reunion.

Generation Kill was so good.  It should have immediately put Skarsgard in the running for any number of projects.

This looks incredibly trashy and wrongheaded. Hollywood, why must you be so... predictable?  I'm not sitting through the trailer again, but the tagline seemed highly inappropriate for a Straw Dogs remake.

Seconded whole heartedly. Gonna be real interesting seeing the film world react to this movie. Its all so bullshit if Uwe Boll made it I could only imagine the response.

Hollywood is a freaking joke.

More pointless than a broken pencil.

The hatred directed at this trailer is pretty much because we all know that it's a remake of Straw Dogs. If Lurie never advertised that fact prior to this, and retitled the movie, we'd all be screaming "rip off!"; yet conceding that it's probably a competently directed rip off. Lurie just wants to tap into the surface rage of the original, but he's purposely disregarding the subtextual questions that the original had. That's pretty egegrious, and renders his remake coming off very generic(I hate to say something like that prior to watching, but I can safely bet that's what ends up happening).

Marsden does look like he could be a dim highlight, and it's kind of unfair that we're attacking him specifically for his conventional Hollywood looks. However, as good as he may end up being, he's a far cry from Dustin Hoffman around that time.

Agreed!

I was hoping the guy would be cast as Thor.

The greatest error that this project has is that it's coming off totally generic. I wish it were more sleazy.

At least with Boll there would be a morbid trainwreck quality about it. With Lurie directing this remake, it's akin to trading in a Harley for a safety consicious Huffy bicycle.

And really all that needs to be said about this.

EDIT: Nevermind.

That fake quote is STILL funny.
