Scott returning to science-fiction after 30 years.

Fassbender

Elba

Pierce.

EXCITED.

Although after the last 10 minutes of LOST  'written by Damon Lindelof'  gives me pause.  As does the rumour that it's about the space jockey from ALIEN.   We don't need to know the jockey's backstory.  It's a big alien which was attacked by a queen Xenomoph.  That's it. The mystery makes it even more terrifying.

It's based off of someone else's screenplay.  I forget whose.  While taking place in the Alien universe, supposedly it doesn't directly correlate to those films much, if at all.

This could be exciting, and I'll admit it's pretty much #1 on my list of anticipated films, but Ridley has been hit-or-miss for over a decade now so I'm trying to keep my hopes tempered.

People have built this space jockey thing into more of an issue than it should be. It was a throwaway enigma in the original movie, there's hardly anything there to ruin. This movie actually seems to be about something (terraforming or whatever), not just expanding on the minutiae of the original movie purely for the sake of it.

I don't have much idea of what to expect but I'm keeping mind open and fingers crossed.

The newest interview with Neville Page, basically confirms (yet again) this has to do with the Alien (xenomorph).

I'm surprised someone in marketing hasn't decided to change the title to Alien: Revelations or Alien: The Beginning or some such crap.

I'm sure someone is pushing for Alien Origins: Rise of the Xenomorph.

This script is frustratingly difficult to find.

prometheus_poster001.jpg Fox's OFFICIAL synopsis of  'Prometheus'...

"Visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott returns to the genre he helped define, creating an original science fiction epic set in the most dangerous corners of the universe. The film takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life's ultimate mystery."

...Hey, Ridley...Monolith, much?

(...Mind you, if you're gonna steal...steal from the GREATS!!. ...)

No!!!  Scott confirms PG-fucking-13!!!

sigh...the Alien films have always been hard-R ventures, and this PG-13 nonsense just knocks it down a few pegs for me.  I know you can get away with alot in a PG-13 movie these days, but there is a distinct R-rated TONE these movies always have and I'm afraid this will be some Disneyland-esque version of an Alien film, lots of cutaways, etc...BLAH!

Bollocks. Ridley should make it a hard R just to avenge KINGDOM OF HEAVEN.

That sounds ridiculous, I know, but fuck it.

From what I read, Scott neither confirms nor denies a PG-13. He said they would look at both an R and a PG-13 cut before making a final decision.

It's PG-13...Lindelof confirms it:

A bombshell was dropped in that Fox are wanting Prometheus to be rated PG-13. Lindelof asked: “has the PG-13 rating inhibited you?” to which Ridley replied he has a responsibility to Fox but he also wanted to make sure he had both opens. In all likelihood we’ll see a PG-13 theatrical release and an uncut Blu-ray release.
Bleeding Cool state that: “Scott has said that he hasn’t held back and has covered stuff that might not make the PG-13 cut, but that he and Tom Rothman “will watch the footage in that big theatre at Fox” and decide what is the best way to go with the film.”---

Regarding the plot of the film, I've seen this description a few places, it seems like it would be legit enough.  I have no idea if it's true or not, but I have to say, it does fit in with the tiny pieces of information we've been getting, and I would totally be on board if this description was in fact true:

Potential Spoilers

Firstly: The story of Prometheus is about man stealing fire from the gods. This movie is supposedly following that story closely.

A: Somehow it is discovered that earth was seeded/terraformed by an alien race with god-like technology  (the Space Jockeys, presumably) - choose your tired Clarke or Van Daniken source for that one.
B: Humans head off to the alien homeworld - The Company is heavily involved in the mission/expedition.
C: They meet these ancient aliens - wake them from an ancient slumber maybe? Get the grand tour.
D: Then they thieve the ever-lovin' shit out of the aliens' terraforming technology (so the company can start it's "Building better Worlds" business I guess?) and skedaddle. Probably an android doing the dirty if he's more Ash than Bishop.
E: The aliens are so miffed they send the facerapin', chestrapin', skullfuckin' aliens after the humans. But the Alien ship crashes on Acheron/LV-426, humans escape with Teh FIRE. And maybe the aliens kill all the Space Jockeys or some bullshit.

The End...

That was just copied and pasted from a commenter on Bad Ass Digest, but like I said, I've seen that synopsis a few times before.

I think one of the things everyone loves about the original Alien was its sense of mystery, and I've always felt alot of films overall creepiness came from that mystery, of not knowing where this creature came from, and what exactly went down with the Space Jockey.  But if a prequel is going to be made, I gotta say I'm more than happy with the way things are shaping out so far.  Of course, the plot could be something totally different and out of left field.  Guess we'll find out.

Yeah that was run here on the main site and apparently Fox denied that this is the plot. I will say though im hoping it's true, I dig the idea.

Ahh ok, I must have missed that article somehow.  Here's hoping Fox was just covering their asses, because I would love to see a film based on that summary.

Which is the same thing Paul Anderson said before Alien vs. Predator came out.  And was also the same tune McG was singing pre-Terminator Salvation release.  Whenever a filmmaker drops that line, the film is released as PG-13.

That said, I have faith in Scott.  I assume this isn't a film about a bunch of insect-like aliens chomping on people, so the rating might not hamper anything.

Well that and the studio saw the budget and had a heart attack and demanded a PG-13.

Expensive R rated movies can make money.

But generally not as much as expensive PG-13 movies.  What was the last big budget R-rated film to really make it at the box office?  300 four years ago?

True, but Paul Anderson and McG are company men to the core. Ridley Scott has his own sway.

But yeah, the film will probably be released PG-13. Which bothers me on some primal level but I don't even know what the Hell this movie is going to be. I'm anticipating 2001 for the new century, and marketing seems to be pushing it in that direction as well.

Give it 8 months, the report will be PG-13 for Theaters, followed by a unrated Blu Ray edition.

I think Fox could do something cool this time around, why not release BOTH versions in theaters, give the audience a choice. See what does better?

That way those who want to see the R rated version get to see it in theaters, and those, underage, who want to see, also can.

I wonder if dual version releases will ever catch on.  It's certainly much more feasible now with widespread digital projection.

if they can release a 2-D version and a 3-D version... why not?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe current MPAA rules state that a film can be in release with only one rating at a time.  That's why they had to pull The King's Speech from theaters when they decided to release that bullshit PG-13 version.  Same thing happened in the 70s with Saturday Night Fever.

I think you're right, but it's a silly thing for the MPAA to get hung up on.

Honestly, outside of some of the language, would Alien even get an R rating if it were released today?  While Kane "giving birth" is bloody and violent as hell, it is not a particularly gory film.  Ridley is going to shoot this movie however he wants.  I suspect we might get a theatrical release that has a little less grue in it and an extended cut on blu-ray that puts it back in...........as well as adding character sequences.  I don't think they are going to fuck Ridley over on a Kingdom of Heaven-level here.  Hell, I suspect he has final cut anyway.

As for the "rumored" synopsis?  Fox has denied it..................and yet every single bit of info that we have been given (be it from the official synopsis, the cast, Lindelof, or Ridley himself) doesn't contradict it in the slightest.  Just sayin'.

Friend just sent me some screencaps of the shit shown at Comicon. They were online for all of 2 seconds.

Think it's okay to post them here without bringing hell down on Chud?

Bloody good, though, aren't they?

Well first...seeing Idris Elba in the Alien universe is a wonderful thing. Let's hope the black man survives in this one.

Scott doing 3D in "those" sets - y'know "those" ones. THAT'S the shit that'll make up for a lot of evil done in the name of 3D adoption.

No idea what Leeloo is doing in there though. Must've got the wrong Multipass...

Thanks Nardo, that made my day.

Even with TDKR and the Hobbit coming out, PROMETHEUS still ranks for me, as the #1 most anticipated film of 2012.

Is there any doubt, that this isn't an Alien prequel now.

I honestly think the whole "This isn't an ALIEN  prequel" thing is simply to underline that it's not a movie about Ripley in any way shape or form.

I think it's meant to mean, that this film isn't directly about the Alien.  They are there, they just are not the main focus like they were in the original two films.

Exactly.........................and the fact that they don't want fans expecting xenomorphs swarming all over the place in the film.

I don't think this is good enough to be submitted to the main-page...(If it IS Nick, apologies) ...an 18 second, blurry, silent clip of what is supposedly from the 'Prometheus' teaser...

"A user on the IMDB forums managed to get a sneak peek at what might be the first Prometheus trailer last night as part of a survey, and to prove the authenticity of his story he even posted a small clip online.

Unfortunately the clip is not of the best quality, and without sound, but there's no doubt this is the real thing.

In addition, he gives a description of what he recalls from the trailer he saw:

"The trailer starts with a clip of Ripley from Alien and the words 'What if the beginning' and then we see the mouth of the Xenomorph 'Wasnt the beginning' or something like that. Then there's a shot of a giant waterfall on some planet, I don't know what the planet was, and a ship travelling to it.
Then we see like two cloaked people talking to eachother near the waterfall or something, and there's a voiceover from who I'm guessing is Noomi Rapace. She says something like: 'A woman once told me a story of how man was created'. Then we see this giant human like creature thing (which im guessing is the Space Jockey thing from Alien but I'm not sure) Voiceover: 'First there was the sun' and we see this giant oval alien ship covering the sky. Voice over: 'And the sun said I'm alone and I have noone to shinedown on so it created man'. And another shot of the giant Space Jockey thing. Then there's shots of the crew on the space ship traveling to that planet.
You see a quick shot of Noomi Rapace and and the rest of the crew and a bunch of stuff is happening they're all in their space suits running around with theyre flame throwers and stuff and theres this epic shot of this giant space station thing that looks like droid control ship from Star Wars Episode 1 falling down through the sky and the words:
'FROM THE DIRECTOR OF ALIEN' come up and more shots of the crew in the ship running from explosions and stuff. Theres a shot of a green laser scanner thing running through a woman's belly some more stuff then theres a quick shot of something bursting out from the space jockey thing.
And the last shot of the trailer is a close up of Michael Fassbender in his space suit looking down at a kid face to face and he holds up a finger and he says 'Big things have small beginnings' then the title comes up 'PROMETHEUS 6.8.12' "

According to the source, the trailer will be out in December.

(Source: EverardoGuzman01 via IMDB)"

As for the PG-13.  Well, I though Matchstick Men was decent.
