Which is exactly what Scott and Rothman are stating they are doing.  The rating decision won't even factor in until Ridley turns in his cut of the film.  As others have said, the MPAA is letting A LOT slide these days.  I just watched Super 8 the other night and was legitimately shocked that it got a PG-13.  There is quite a bit of swearing in it.  Basically, the only true red flag these days that will automatically get you an R rating is nudity...................which there barely has been any of in this franchise anyway.

Fair enough on the original Alien lifecycle, I was just wondering aloud if Scott would try to reincorporate it.

As for the EW pictures: I'm incredibly excited that the space suits have logos on them, because I am a huge nerd for world building and production design.

Got my copy of EW today. Not much info, but I can report the room with all the little pods on the floor is called "the Ampule room".

Man Aliens had a great trailer, makes me want to watch it right now.

Prometheus looking great as well. Based on this there's no question they're going for a horror tone, and they seem to be treating the Alien connection as an open secret at most.

Yeah, that Aliens trailer is a classic. The Prometheus trailer is looking damned good too, at least the bits you can make out. Loving the tone of it.

Is it an Alien film, where the Alien is the main focus, no.  But I think this will be the Hobbit of the Alien series.  Ring basically being the xenomorph... not the main focus, persay, but it's there and you can tell at the end of the film where it is going.

Point is, even on a shitty camera on a phone from 2002, that trailer looks perfect. I was cautiously optimistic before, now I'm eager with anticipation.

I like the static sound. Much like from the original trailer. All it's missing is someone (Fassbender, Elba, or Pearce) saying "WE MUST GO ON! WE HAVE TO GO ON!"

Yeah, I can't wait to see it in full HD.

That's probably the single best description of Prometheus that I have seen so far.

AICN has a link to a fairly legit sounding plot description.  Weak man that I am, I read it, and I will say that if it is indeed accurate, I'd say we are in good hands.  Massive spoilers obviously.

I'm trying desperately not to read that.  I skimmed it and already am sorry because I spotted something that is hugely spoilery and sounds fairly terrifying onscreen.

Fuuuuck, I couldn't resist.

But it sounds fucking horrifying, surprisingly horrifying...are they seriously trying to make this PG-13?  Cause that rating is gonna get stretched like crazy if Scott shoots this the way its described.  It also seems fucking epic; we haven't seen a movie like this since the 70s of epic sci-fi stuff not only in spectacle, but ideas.  Bravo to Fox for green lighting what sounds like a crazy fucking script.  I hope to God Scott can get a R-rating on this because it sounds so ripe to scare the shit out of people.  I really really dig the entire plot, and totally did not expect it to go this route.

If I were you, I wouldn't read it, sounds fun to experience in a theater next June.

EDIT:  I hope its the right synopsis, otherwise I'll feel like a fool.  Some folks in the talkback on aicn are saying it's made up from some imdb poster.

Well I'll be damned, it is indeed fanfic.  But DAMN good fanfic, fooled our old pal Nordling.  I have to say, if that really was the script, I'd be fully on board.  That guy's not bad. 

Yeah, pretty neat.  Stuff like this is making the wait unbearable though.  

It's a shame it's fanfic. For a minute there I thought we were getting the highest-concept studio sci-fi movie since, funnily enough, Blade Runner. Fingers crossed, we still will. If the real thing is half as beautifully crazy as that fake synopsis, I'll be making multiple visits to the multiplex.

Yeah, that really is a shame. That guy has some interesting, evocative ideas.  I was really hoping to see Charlize's transformation into the Star Beast. Hell, that entire story is something I'd love to watch on the big screen.

Hopefully it will pale in comparison to the real thing.

I'm not sure it is ENTIRELY fanfic.  It basically reads like a thoroughly expanded version of the "leaked" synopsis from earlier in the year that Fox actually bothered to come out and deny.

There are two possibilities:

#1 - Both were very well written fanfic pieces, with the latter building upon the former from the info we've been given since.

#2 - The first leaked synopsis (which stirred Fox) was real and this was just a creative expansion of it.

Right now I'm leaning towards option #2.

I adore the first two Aliens films. (Who doesn't?) My wife and I have two cats named Ripley and Newt. Those movies are special to me. 

I really, really want this to be great. But I worry - the less we know about the Alien the better. It's supposed to be mysterious...unknown...alien.

I don't want to know if the Alien was designed or if it evolved. I'm afraid they'll explain it to death.

I must be broken inside or something, because to me that synopsis sounded overcrowded, needlessly complex and outright dumb in some parts. Theron transforms into an alien? Really? So glad it's a fake. In the right hands that story could probably be good, but I wouldn't trust the Ridley Scott who's been making films for the past ten years to bring the deft touch that such a twisty-turny concept-laden movie would need.
