I've liked most of what I've seen so far, but is anyone really that interested in the history of the space jockey? Either fans or the general public (who wouldn't know what it is and have only vague memories of the movie, if they've actually seen it)?

I don't think Prometheus is merely just the history of the space jockey.  There seems to be a whole new world and story here, with the history of the space jockey merely being a backdrop.  I don't see why you think that is some kind of mark against the film.  It seems we're also getting the origin of the xenomorph and the origin of the Weyland corporation.

So, friend of mine saw a roughcut of this. All I'll say is: It's not what you think, but it's also exactly what you think and nobody is going to believe quite what's been achieved with this.

Willing to eat crow if it's awful, but from what I've seen/heard on this from the production. Bloody hell.

I've never had a burning desire to know the origins of the Weyland corporation. Or the Alien. Why do we need to know? Did we need to know Vader's origins? The Thing's?

Speaking of the origins of Weyland Industries...

Just because you don't have a burning desire doesn't mean something good can't be achieved.  And based on what Sean said above, he may have pulled it off.  I'll give Ridley the benefit of the doubt, thanks

NOVEMBER 20, 2065: TRANSPLANETARY PEACEKEEPING - As Weyland Industries expands their terraforming activities and colonial endeavors, the company is approached by the US government to begin work on the formation of a colonial peacekeeping force trained or populated by marines in the event of future conflict.

JANUARY 7, 2025: DAVID 1 - Weyland manufactures the first advanced android prototype model of its kind. He is affectionately called David, a name Sir Peter Weyland had initially reserved for his own human son.
JUNE 1, 2022: CURE FOR THE COMMON CANCER - Scientists from the Health Division identify the genetic chain of events for 98% of cancers. Using genetically-altered cells as well as elements found beyond Earth’s heavens, Weyland successfully deploys an effective cure for almost all cancers.
OCTOBER 1, 1990: A MAVERICK IS BORN - Peter Weyland is born in Mumbai, India to an Oxford-educated Professor of Comparative Mythology and a self-taught engineer.

I thought all of this would count as spoilers, but I've known about this stuff for a while. Did not think they'd tell us this in the marketing, which to be honest, was pretty stupid of me. Of course they would, it's brilliant.

Sean, based on what your friend said...is the whole "it's not a prequel" thing justified?

Practically anything is a spoiler for this one, I think Lindelof has done some good work, I know peoples mouths are going to hit the floor with all the tiny references to the world. I think that's probably the most important thing. You just need to look at that timeline site to make your call on it. But I think you can say it's a prequel if you consider the original to be less about the alien and it's life cycle etc, and more about a Weyland mission gone awry. Honestly, what I said before, as vague as that sounds now, when you see it, it'll make sense.

"Sir, we're getting a very positive reaction to this video. People are loving the shit out of it!"

"Well, better go ahead and block it then. We don't want people to like our stuff."

New IMAX Trailer up!

Definite shot of a Space Jockey and Alien Hugger here.

Most of the time studios block stuff there's a reason for it. Nothing worse for a planned cooperation with a site like yahoo when the exclusive material leaks hours earlier than planned and gets shared and embedded like it's going out of style.

I'm of the opinion that this is ALL part of the plan...every trailer- leak, picture-leak and script-leak (obviously bogus or not), were carefully orchestrated by Scott/ 20thCF, has the fan community buzzing more (...and for less bucks)  than a full-blown ad campaign.

Yes, what I'm saying is they employed people to write fake scripts, use Iphones to capture blurry images and recount bogus screenings.

Mark my words, this is deliberate.

...and it's brilliant.

Nobody was interested in Darth Vader, til they saw Star Wars. So with that in mind, does the Space Jockey's apparent anonymity work for or against it?

The most important thing here is that Idris Elba's character is actually American, not British. How does that impact his survival odds?

Are you guys really still doing the 'do we really need an explanation of the space jockey' conversation after all this time? The answer is "no we don't". But we didn't particularly 'need' a Giger-free militarized action thriller sequel to the original either. If it's not something you want to see, don't watch it.

LISTEN UP!!

Less than 20 minutes for the Theron/ Fassbender Q & A..

http://uk.movies.yahoo.com/prometheus/

BE there or BE a rectangle with sides of equal size yet perpendicular.

How do I call in to ask if there will be Fassbender android sex?

Submit your own questions via twitter (hash tag #amcprometheus, 1, 2, 3) or Facebook.

It's ON!!!!!!

...is it just me, or has Theron chubbed-up a bit?

I'll feed Theron whatever she wants.

Well....that was fluff/ bollocks!

It must be the, er, lens they were using, or something. Just kidding, I think she looks fab.

Anyways, that was pretty cool. The most interesting bits were the slight hints about their characters and performances. Fassbender seemed to think highly of the script, though "The script was AMAZING!" is a total cliche in promo interviews.

GOD/ Space Jockey...that was AWFUL!!!

Roll on Ridley!!

(6 hours to go...)

At 12 seconds you can see some sort of alien like tail enter someone's arm through their suit.  Hmmmm...probably some sort of face hugger?  But the man you see in pain later does not have a facehugger attached to his face, his face is merely looking deformed and burned.  Later you see one of the space suit guys go batty and attack the crew, hmmm....

If I were to guess, this organism takes control of you and possibly even....

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

transforms you into a xenomorph?  Could the synopsis we got months back be true?  Where the crew one by one turn into star beasts?

I just figured it had been awhile since someone was a dickhead and posted that question.

A page in this thread shouldn't go by without someone asking about how exactly they'll organize their "Alien" DVD's when "Prometheus" comes out on Blu-Ray.

Man, I'm so happy this stuff is finally coming out. So good. I love that they've made Weyland, the head of the EEEEVVVVIIIILLLL company from the Alien films Steve Jobs.

Haha that would never go over as a real commercial. It's all happy-go-lucky with the music, then switches to terrifying when the robut gets his milk in him.

Also, is that Fassbender doing the voiceover?

I can't believe I never thought of the space jockey as the "prometheus" in the story before.

Tied down forever with an open wound.

I'd say it's Weyland, but could be either. In universe it's probably some intentionally vague marketing wank, so you think it's human, but ah! No! It's the robot! Proving us right, you couldn't tell!

It's definitely Fassbender.

FUCK!  Just when the trailer premiered my connection started acting up!  Did anyone save it?

Just saw the full length trailer, anyone else catch it with the Q+A?    It of course looks incredible.

I'm hoping it pops up on youtube soon.

Ambler- it's replaying right now, if you wanted to sit through it again.

Fuck me sideways....That was brilliant!!!

The trailer leaves me more confused than ever...and i LOVE IT!!!

It's on YouTube - on the AMC channel

Yeah but my connection is acting up...I saw the trailer in small bits, but it kept skipping.

It appears to use the original Giger design for the pyramid.

At 1:37 - that looks like an image of the Alien unless I am very much mistaken. Again seems like a Giger sketch.

Trailer looks awesome!  I'm starting to break it down now...you could clearly see a XENOMORPH on the wall in one shot.  Not a prequel my ass!
