I found a 'Prometheus' torrent after a quick search, but the comments all said it was fake (password protected zip with no working password).

If anyone does watch this that way, then I will judge away.  Watching a shitty torrent, of a workprint, on a PC just to be FIRST to see Ridley's long awaited return to sci-fi.

urgh.

I have faith that no-one in this thread would ruin their experience by doing that though.

Huh, it seems easy to find.  If it was legit, I would have expected someone to have posted their impressions already?

Yeah, and all the torrents I saw are weeks old anyways. And they are labelled "....Xvid.mkv" which makes no sense, those are two different codec formats. It's not worth a second thought.

So anyways, I'm thinking about just hibernating for four months or so...

Ug, I hope it hasn't leaked. If it has and impressions make it online, please spoiler tag the crap out of them.

Maybe I should just stay out of this thread. I'm looking forward to this movie way too much.

I read about people who saw the workprint, and the consensus seems to be...

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

You dumb fuck, there is no workprint.

I wish I hadn't read the spoiler now :(

Ahhhh! Spoilers in this thread. I'm outta here till release.

Just to prevent too many people leaving the thread I will say that there is no spoiler posted so far.  It is just an insult for clicking on the spoiler.  There is no workprint out there.  I was just messing.  Sorry about that.

Idris Elba interview with a few tidbits, he's excited:

I still feel Prometheus has given us the best trailer for a movie this year.  I've watched it tons, and it still works.

Agreed. While TDKR is my personal most-anticipated for '12, the PROMETHEUS trailer just knocks it out of the park.

International trailer's out but has no new footage or the bleeding in of the title.

There was clearer look at a Facehugger i think.

I couldn't see anything different apart from it didn't have the lettering appearing throughout the trailer which I loved.

I'm really very curious to see what Guy Pearce's role in this is. There seems to be hardly any mention of him. People have said he's one of the 'Space Jockeys' but I can just see him as a great asshole company man.

He's the original chestburster.

I think he's a company stooge that sends them on the mission.  I remember him hinting that he only really appears briefly at the start.

Am I the only one that thinks Noomi Rapace actually looks attractive this time?

This is third on my list of "must see 2012" films behind The Hobbit and The Dark Knight Returns. I'm a huge sci-fi buff (obviously) but I've been waiting for a film like this since the AVPs flopped. I was originally interested because of its original premise of being an alien prequel but even after this premise was dropped I found myself oddly interested. With the comparisons to Alien title credits in the trailer, the music, the Space Jockey, the Derelict and much more I cannot help but be excited. It may not have any true "xenomorphs" in it, but it alludes to Alien enough for me to be very excited.

Cannot wait for release, will probably see within the first week of release if not midnight.

Let''s just hope 'Prometheus' doesn't end up being Ridley's "Phantom Menace"...I LOVE the guy, his films...but...I'm temporing my enthusiasm, till I see or hear something more...

I agree with you in principle, but I don't think it's a totally fair comparison.  Ridley Scott is an immeasurably more talented director than Lucas.

Talent aside, the key factor here is that Scott seems to understand why his first film is so great, while Lucas does not.

agreed, I can't see it.  Ridley has a completely different aesthetic to Lucas for a start.  Entirely different type of movie series too.

I wasn't talking about directly comparing Scott to Lucas!!

Just a similar (if not LONGER) return to his roots...I can't fucking wait,

...I've just got something in the back of my brain waiting to leap out, shouting, "I TOLD YOU SO!!!"

Do you think we'll see how LV-426 becomes the hostile, foggy piece of shit planet it is in the first movie? This LV-426 looks beautiful. And the crashing of the ship doesn't look as if it'll go anywhere else after that landing.

But it's not LV-426 in the trailer, is it?

Yea, I don't think there's any reason to assume the planet in the trailer is LV-426.  I don't remember the exact phrasing, but Lindelof said basically that this film goes in a different direction, and that a sequel to Prometheus would not be Alien.

Not sure if that makes any sense, I think he was just trying to get the point across that Prometheus may not end leading directly into Alien.

I'm dying DYING to see this.

There's something about this that just looks "right".  It looks, at least what we've seen, like an uncompromised vision.  A big budget, gorgeous looking, uncompromised, sci-fi vision.

Sounds like lightning in a bottle twice then, cause the first one was just what you described. Ridley's got a great eye, for casting and for making beautiful images. Can't wait for his sci-fi return.

Yeah I don't think it's the same planet OR ship(just the same type), but we'll see.

...on the other hand, if the jockey vessel IS a terra-forming ship, the crash could damage whatever is used in the terra-forming process, producing a planet that looks like LV-426 from the beginning of 'A L I E N'

...or maybe that was the jockey's intension all along...what we see in 'A L I E N' is a transformed Eden into what suits the Jockeys.

...or ( as I hope)...totally different ship...totally different planet.

I'd like to think that what we saw of LV-426 in Alien and Aliens is what's left of the "paradise" from the prometheus trailers after the xenomorph's killed every last living thing on the planet.

Stage one in the Jockey's terraforming process, whipe the slate clean, before they introduce their own prefered life forms onto the planet.  Only, since the ship crashed and the xeno's escaped, no one was around to implement phase two.  Doesn't explain the fog and the shitty weather though.....

That's just fan wank, I doubt that's what Scott has in mind.

Chris Myers, Maybe, the same thing happened to LV-426, that happened to the 2 Ceti Alpha Planets in Star Trek 2.  One blew up and the one Khan was on became a barren wasteland.  I just saw the Trailer before I watched...Ghost Rider Spirit Of Vengeance, and Prometheus looks...Awe-Inspiring!

The planet in the trailers is not LV-426.  Scott himself has stated this at least once.  The quote is somewhere back in this thread or you can find it elsewhere online.  I'm too lazy to look it up at the moment.

That said, I wouldn't be shocked if said planet ends up looking like LV-426 does after the events of the film.  Also, considering Ridley is already talking about cooking up ideas for a Prometheus 2, I wouldn't expect it to line-up directly with Alien...............ala Red Dragon with Silence of the Lambs.

Duke, how was the Prometheus 3D? Did you get to see the trailer in 3D?

Chris Myers, Yes!

So, how does the quality compare to other recent 3D movies or trailers you've seen?

Chris Myers, The Prometheus Trailer is...Awesome!  I hope the film will be as cool.  I...Love the tech, and spaceships etc.  As for other 3D films/trailers, I just saw...Ghost Rider Spirit Of Vengeance, and that is Awesome, while Journey 2: The Mysterious Island was pretty cool!  I also saw the...Amazing Spider-Man Trailer in 3D, and that looks...Spectacular!

Oh duke... never change!

Nexus-7, I only will change...My Clothes!

I love that it's a family company. I think we can assume Peter is the great great great great great great grandson of Lance Henriksen.

They could fart a lot of noxious gas into the atmosphere. Heat from the local star would create weather patterns.

I also saw the PROMETHEUS trailer in 3D in front of...ahem...ghost rider spirit of vengeance. It looked great in 3D.

I'm jealous of both experiences!

Especially if they're still designed by Geiger.

It also makes one wonder about how true those occasional "proto-xenomorph" rumors are.

Well, that green thing that Fassbender's playing with in the trailer certainly looks like a proto-facehugger.

Speaking of facehuggin', I need to own this shirt...
