Didn't see a MacFarlane-helmed Flinstones reboot coming...

Is it better or worse that I thought the headline was going to link me to a story about Todd  McFarlane doing The Flintstones?

I...hmmm. I almost don't have a problem with this. I can't imagine the people who control the Flintstones (Hanna-Barbera, right?) will allow him to turn it into something as "adult" as Family Guy, even if the original cartoon was supposedly for adults. McFarlane has talent, pushing himself to try and adapt someone else's property might be the best thing for him. And The Flintstones was sort of the original "groan-worthy random pop culture reference" cartoon, so it sort of fits.

I dunno they have let Macfarlane push the limits a bit with both the Flintstones and Jetsons as bits on FG. So maybe they are down for a Family Guy style take on the show.

I'm confused.  You said The Cleveland Show isn't coming back.......................but yet it is still listed on Fox's Upfronts?  Not that I give a shit, as I don't watch it, but it is still confusing.

Read a report earlier in the day (from a legit site) that it had been cancelled. Perhaps they or I read wrong?

I'm hoping you read it right.  Then again, if I had my way, The Simpsons wouldn't be on the air anymore either.

Cleveland Show's been renewed through 2013.

That doesn't surprise me.  MacFarlane's definitely got a nice deal for himself with Fox.  Add The Flintstones to the mix and he'll have four ongoing animated shows on the network.  Unless their ratings plummet drastically, The Cleveland Show and American Dad aren't going anywhere for a long time.

Well I guess fuck the A/V club now. Misleading bastards.

I'm a bit of a Family Guy diehard (I just graduated college, it was sort of a requirement), but the last few seasons have been increasingly meh and Cleveland Show is just sort of there, so I can understand people's hesitation over this.Questionable brand-loyalty aside though, I honestly think American Dad has come into its own as a solid show, and that at least gives me hope for a new show. A fresh property can light a fire under otherwise complacent asses (see Team America and The Book of Mormon) and I think MacFarlane on his A-game has a chance to make this worth watching.

To be honest, I actually don't mind Family Guy at all, though I don't go out of my way to watch it.  It makes for decent background noise if it is on and I'm not in the mood to pay a lot of attention to the TV.  I just find American Dad and particularly The Cleveland Show to be boring for the most part.............................and the same goes for The Simpsons when it comes to pretty much the past decade of the show.

American Dad and The Cleveland Show just feel like they are comprised of skits that MacFarlane didn't think were good enough to make it on Family Guy, which isn't the highest standard in the first place.

I thought the same as well. Now that would have been a "What the fuck?!" article.

Went off Family Guy but caught a few American Dad eppisodes recently and it won me over.  I'm willing to give McFarline a shot here.

American Dad had a pretty cool episode about Martin Scorsese a couple of years ago. It even clowned on The Big Shave.

I can't lie and say that didn't impress me.

Yeah I usually keep FG on as background noise. But everyonce in a while they will do something that makes me laugh...sometimes really hard.

I avoid the other two though. Except for this past weekend's Cleveland show. I had heard The Comic Book Guy was gonna be in the episode and damned if it wasn't a parody or anything. It was legitimatly Azaria doing the voice. Kinda curious what it took to get that done.

I'm no Family Guy fan, but I might give this a watch.

as Fox and WB Television have been nervous about the master of poop-filled gallows humor being let loose on such a family friendly property.

They actually let John K take a wack at some characters a few years ago. Yogi, Flitstones, Jetsons...

I hope The Rock makes a cameo, both for the play on words and so he can say this:

The BedRock?  He seems like a great celeb-cameo for the show.  Besides, it's not like they never had pop culture references in the original cartoon.

That clip just made my day!  Must have missed that episode.
