Wait.. what about those two other cars that Mahoney destroyed while fucking up that asshole’s car? The owners of those cars didn’t do anything to Mahoney? Um… yeah, well, uh… fuck them too! This is just how Mahoney rolls! He’s above society! He is Niche’s ubermensch!

I have a feeling your articles will be more amusing than any of these movies would be if I rewatched. Pretty much everything I remember from the series is stuff that I think I would only find funny if I was still 12:

-Winslow (was always wowed by mimicry, ventriloquism, and any other weird vocal performance arts)

-Lassard podium speech

-Tackleberry and his obsession with guns (I forget which sequel it was in, but the visit to his family home where you find out they're even crazier than he is DESTROYED me when I was a kid)

-Blue Oyster bar scene

-Leslie Easterbrook in the swimming pool (again, I was like 12)

-that dumb Bobcat Goldthwait character

I think Winslow's scenes might make me laugh though if I keep in mind the theory that his character is a complete sociopath

The surprise tits at the beach party has to be one of the most 80s things I've seen in my life. Just extras passing in front of the camera shwoing their tits, out of pretty much nowhere.

Needs more attention to Leslie Easterbrook's inspirational "guns", and it's important to note that the PA franchise helped inspire a slew of "School" knock-offs like SKI SCHOOL, etc. ANIMAL HOUSE deserves its credit for the modern Snobs VS Slobs subgenre of comedy (which goes all the back to Stooges and Marx Bros), but I tend to think STRIPES was just as instrumental in the tone of POLICE ACADEMY. Otherwise a nice write-up. The whole series is available pretty cheap too in those WB quadruple feature dvd sets. You even get National Lampoon's LOADED WEAPON to boot.

I always assumed the quick pitch for the first film was ANIMAL HOUSE meets STRIPES.

As Andre pointed out in one of the old Police Academy threads(which I looked up after buying the first 4), the DVD for the first one has trailers for all of the films in the series, and every single one of the trailers is virtually identical. The first movie is also fullscreen while the others aren't, for whatever goddamn reason(I think they were all released around the same time).

Easily the best in a series that I loved as a kid, but even then I could tell how shitty things were becoming. The first is still one of my favorite 80's comedies, and I have no idea how much of that is nostalgia talking. Totally agreed on how great Gaines is in the otherwise stupid speech BJ scene. He's awesome.

Am I the only one that would be interested in an Apatow produced "Police Academy" remake with Donald Glover in the Mahoney role?

I could see Dennis from "It's Always Sunny..." as Mahoney. Not familiar with the actor's name.

But yeah, I really wouldn't want to see a remake, although I'm sure it's just a matter of time.

R.I.P Bubba Smith.

It's a shame, especially since last week they announced the reboot/sequel that'll have roles for the original group...........if it gets made.  You might just be adding a new entry to this one, Josh!  Are you excited?

I'd gladly accept a new POLICE ACADEMY into my life. As long as it is better that MISSION TO MOSCOW.

How can it not be?
