I guess I didn't know they were already rolling this technology out, but a theatre here in Omaha is apparently 1 of 70 theatres in the world to start a trial run of D-Box seats in theatres. The type of seats that move and shake with the action on the screen, like the seats in a 3D ride at an amusement park. They have 3 settings: low, medium, high. It is also not recommended for pregnant women, or anyone with neck, back, or heart problems.
It sounds like, at least for my theatre, that the seats may only available with the 3D screens, and will cost you an extra $8. That plus the added cost of 3D ticket makes it a $20 price tag for a prime time showing. I'm not sure the cost in other parts of the country, but the average prime time ticket in Omaha is about $9 (I usually go to matinees anymore where its about $5-6). $20 for one ticket is pretty steep, and the only options are "Fast 5" (which I've already seen) and "Pirates of the Caribbean 4" (which I have no desire to see in theatres)...I guess if I want to try this out, I'll have to wait till "Green Lantern"....but 3D doesn't really work that well with my eye sight....so I may not try it at all.
Anyone else knew they were actually implementing these seats? Anyone's theatres using these, and are you actually going to try it out? It just seems like another gimmick, and not a very interesting one at that.
