Zombies rule. Get over it.

I enjoyed the book, and I'm really looking forward to this film, a lot!

I have no idea of the style of the adaptation 8is it going to be a mockumentary? found footage? a Sorta hybrid like District 9?", but i hope my favorite part of the book gets adapted, the space station one; the horror of people stuck on space watching events unfold would be a fantastic sequence.

I've been jazzed to hear about this production getting anywhere so many times that I've lost the ability to genuinely give a shit until there's a teaser trailer of some sort.  Also, unless Pitt is the journalist(ugh!) I can't imagine how the film can "star" him let alone any particular person.

I think it would play more like Courage Under Fire with Pitt interviewing and each leading to a flashback as he seeks to gather and then write the Z/11 Report.   I like the source, I like the director, I like Brad Pitt.

I'd like the idea better if it was being developed as a Ken Burns-style documentary, but I'm still pretty excited about a World War Z film.

Agreed with the above statements, the only character present throughout is the reporter, and even then he's just asking the questions. I hope, hope, hope they keep the style of the books and don't try to just tell one single story, therefore making it just like every other zombie movie out there. A long form mockumentary would of course be great, but hey, that's Hollywood.

Looking forward to how Forster deals with the battle of Yonkers.

I've been following the production for a while now and I know that the biggest hurdle to cracking the story has been how to handle the scope of the narrative. I do not believe for a second that Forster or the screenwriters intend to present just another typical zombie apocalypse story. I'm hoping we'll all be pleasantly surprised at what they've come up with.

Love the book and have always maintained it needs to be done in a Band of Brothers style.

I genuinely don't hold out much hope for the film.  What makes the book so good to me is the vastly difefrent elements that give you an overall picture.  I really don't know how they're going to achieve that and I DREAD it being 'Brad Pitt battles his way across zombie infested america to find his family'.

I'm not so precious about the book that I'm going to dismiss it out of hand, I hope beyond hope they make a decent fist of it but I fear that it's going to be simplistic bollocks..

A Band of Brothers style Mini-series would be great, since it would allow you to do all the different styles in single episodes.  I am glad they are filming all over the world. One of the things I liked about the story was its diversity.   Also, the secret underground city of North Koreans who may or may not be the undead sounds like a great video game.

Wait, I'm confused. I'm hearing...positivity for this. I thought we had a hardcore cabal of 'Fuck World War Z'ers around here somewhere?

Moved on from WWZ...Waiting on news of a Day by Day Armageddon adaptation.

I was under the impression the added story element was more of a presence of those trying to silence Pitt, who remains desperate to get the story out. Sort of a zombie version of All The President's Men.

That being said, Marc Foster hasn't made a movie that I even remotely like yet. He's from the Schumacher school of "this would be more interesting in ANY other filmmaker's hands."

oooh, interest peaked :)  Although that doesn;t really tie in with the book where every alive human knows a zombie holocaust has happened.  So would this just be the first few chapters of the book (governments in denial)??

As someone who has a zombie-history book floating out there in the world, I hope this makes a billion zillion dollars, as that will greatly increase the chances that some uncreative exec will snatch up the rights to my book! Even though I have no idea how my book could be turned into a film.

Shit man, that's there problem. You'll be being blown up and down Hollywood Boulevard slamming 7 gram rocks. Like a boss.

Well, Forster and Schumacher have Monster's Ball and Falling Down to their credit, so there's that.

Interesting timing on this news, since a friend of mine just gave me his old copy of the novel. I'll probably push it up on my reading list now.

This happens? GODDAMMIT.

Been working on a short story that's similar. No zombies, and I'm sure things are very different, but still. Goddammit. Going to have to read it now(which I've been meaning to anyway) to make sure I'm not unintentionally ripping something off.

This is a trope known as "What about the Astronauts":

You're safe. Just make it worth reading (Zero G Feces-flinging Fight!).

Thanks, I shall give that a read right now.

No weightless feces fights, sadly. :(

Beware of that site. It's a dangerous link vortex of doom. But it's great for "Oh, that's an actual thing is it?" discoveries and just realizing there's no such thing as an original conceit/concept, so you can stop worrying about it.

A horribly sad truth.
I frequently worry about it with my comics. "Am I unintentionally ripping something off that's been done?" I just have to roll with it I guess, and hope that people actually believe the fact that I barely read comic strips, and most of my favorites are long since discontinued(the Far Side, Calvin and Hobbes, the Addams Family, Bloom County, etc etc).

Sorry for the derail folks.

I hope it's more memorable than QUANTUM OF SOLACE. All I recall is it had a ton of fire and broken glass and that it bummed me out... How very apocalyptic.
