WOLVERINE SNIKTS A SHORTLIST

It's one of those annoying lists, but at least you can chat about it

Ugh, this list.

-Considering the way they treated Gavin Hood on the first film, I fear a similar fate for Padihla, the name that excites me the most on that list. I do believe Padihla also also just attached himself to a thriller called "Tri-Border," only further confirmation that MGM doesn't have their shit together with "Robocop."

-Mark Romanek will never do it.

-Doug Liman seems... I dunno, desperate? Not seeing it.

-Antoine Fuqua, please no.

-James Mangold, Justin Lin - Just picking names out of a hat over there at Fox. Neither is a good match for this material, especially considering what I've heard about the budget (A Vulture article last week floated $90 million).

-Who the fuck is Gary Shore?

-I guess, by default, this leaves Gavin O'Connor, maybe the most faceless person in this group. Guess John Moore was busy.

Everyone's knee-jerk reaction is probably Romanek but they're forgetting that Never Let Me Go was a terrible film. In hindsight the book was probably unfilmable but that film was truly a massive disappointment. While he's very insightful and intelligent in interviews, if it doesn't come across on-screen then it's obviously no use.

But you know who would be fucking perfect? JOE WRIGHT. I defy anybody to think of a better choice. And he's not even busy...

Yikes... if these are our choices, FOX might as well cut the budget in half & hand the project over to Frank (The Spirit) Miller.

At least that way it'll be terrible and interesting.

1. Joe Wright is shooting Anna Karenina. Definitely busy.

2. Your assessment of "Never Let Me Go" is distasteful and makes me sick to my stomach. What an unfortunate opinion.

3. Christopher McQuarrie wrote the damn thing - why aren't they considering him? Or my Bullshit Dream Choice, Takeshi Kitano? I would rather have them than this Gary Shore character.

Speaking of Shore, the guy's already directed a trailer for a second Wolverine movie. If you think Zack Snyder's approach is too nuanced, BEHOLD - http://www.bleedingcool.com/2011/05/25/gary-shores-trailer-for-the-next-wolverine-movie-looks-like-it-might-get-him-the-job/

EGADS.

They should go with Gavin O'Connor because his name is Gavin. I only want Wolverine films directed by Gavins.

Ryuhei Kitamura would be better for Wolverine, than...ANY, of the choices!  That is at least to me.   Azumi, is the kind of film that a...Wolverine Samurai Epic, could be!

Neveldine/Taylor!

Spierig Bros!

Wachowski Siblings!

This movie deserves 2 directors to make sure they have backup when facing off against Fox. Or just 1 Takashi Miike!

Never Let Me Go is a jumbled, scattershot mess and a total missed opportunity. I love the book and the characters, and Mulligan is fantastic, but it simply failed to carry any of the emotional weight and resonance of the novel and the overwrought sentimentality is ultimately embarrassing, especially considering the nuanced, even trance-like subtlety of the book.

I dunno how it can make you "sick to your stomach" to encounter someone who dislikes a film you apparently hold in high esteem -- does your love for Never Let Me Go: The Movie really run that deep? I recommend you get used to stuff like, y'know, "contrary opinions" because they're pretty much everywhere.

Your opinion is hyperbolic word soup. I find it distasteful.

At least I have an opinion, beyond finding other opinions distasteful
