Valve loves us all.

And we should all love Valve. Thanks for the heads-up.

Nice timing, too. I downloaded the soundtrack to the Orange Box off of iTunes just last week. Now I need the Half-Life 2 tunes.

I'm a jerk and have never played the first Half-Life, is the music on par? I dig the HL2/Portal music lots.

This is excellent, by the way.

These are some pretty dope ass beats.

"Hey people that made us millions, we like you!" I shudder to think of the day Gabe Newell is gone from Valve and the company must answer to some douchebag shareholder board.

Wow, I was sure the music from the co-op trailer was actually Daft Punk. I even thought I knew which song from 'Human After All' it was.

Turns out it was an original piece after all, which is now my ringtone.

"The Friendly Faith Plate" is fucking SICK*.

*No, i do not use this term often, but it applies.

From what I remember, there really is not much music in the first  Half-Life

I fear for this day as well.  I just hope that he has something in place where he has a succesor so this wont happen.  God the amount of money lets say a Microsoft or a EA would throw at ValvE would be INSANE.

The 320 kbps bit rate is much appreciated too.

HL1's soundtrack is mostly slow, atmospheric, mood-setting type stuff with a couple more punchy techno beats thrown in for the action set pieces.  I probably prefer it (both game and music) to anything Valve has produced since.  Should be easy enough to find the soundtrack as the original CD's used regular CD audio format for the music.  Can be played in an audio CD player just as most other games could be from that era.

edit:

Yep, youtube has everything.

slow moody intro to the game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BNZL9c8e8s

Oh good to hear. I've seen the game cheap used on a few sites like eBay, but figured it wouldn't run on my Windows 7 machine. Worth a shot now, if nothing else I get the tunage. I used to listen to my Quake CD all the time way back(not recommended normally, but works great as Fallout music now).

Wait, don't do that. Download Steam and get it that way. It's $9.99 Unless you only wanted it for the music...then e-bay away.

I'm just going to do the physical copy thing right now. My internet is way too unreliable/slow for Steam sadly.

I wonder what will happen if you install it and play?  I'm sure it'll be just fine.

It'll work just fine stand-alone.  There's even still some pre-steam patches for HL floating around online in order to update the game.  The question is that if he buys it used, he may not be able to attach that cd key to a steam account in the future, as someone will likely have already done that.  The only real hiccup with running HL in Vista/7 is the lack of functioning EAX and 3D sound.  Using an XFi soundcard and ALchemy can fix that though.

That'll work, I'll give a shot. I'm one of those people that considers the framerate far more important than graphics, so if it DOES run, it'll be like butter.
