Yep.

Looks like some good, creepy fun! Somehow the trailer struck me as Amityville meets Coraline meets... something else. That isn't intended as an insult (Coraline was fantastic), just the vibe I got from it...

Exciting! I never got the chance to see the original (way too young), but I remember my dad telling me the story during a ride home from work and school one day. Seriously freaked me the hell out, just hearing it like that. I would go back to the story (the version my dad told me, anyway) and shudder a bit, afraid again. One day I had the chance to finally see the original for myself, but I just couldn't do it, partly because I was STILL too scared, the other because I didn't want to be disappointed.

This doesn't look disappointing, and I hope that it makes tons of money. I'll bring some Depends.

Fantastic trailer. Pretty damn excited to see the whole thing.

Awesome.  I'm not a big fan of horror films but this looks damn good.  Love the look that Troy & Co. gave the film.  And it's got Guy fucking Pierce!

Love the prominence of the whispers in the marketing for the film.  Gives me chills.

I love the whispers, and I love the house. I hope Bailee Madison pulls a Drew Barrymore and sells the shit out of the monsters. Looks like she's doing a great job so far. Very exciting!

Whispers. So fucking creepy but it's just whispers.

Love it.

With Troy directing I knew it would look good but it looks really good. I love the visuals.

Awesome! I still had to look through my fingers at that jump scare at the end. When's this coming out?

Last week of August.

Ah, thank you. One thing I am wondering is how the "creatures" are done; there are definitely some shots of people in make-up here, but also some brief glimpses of what looked like CGI. I hope the mix is good, at least.

This needs to be seen in a theater with a sound system that will ruin your hearing.

Late to reply, but I just want to say- I love how it looks like this big gorgeous beast of a theatrical horror movie, yet at the same time seems to capture the spirit of the TV original in all the important ways. Damn, those whispers.

And I'm ashamed to admit, I didn't recognize him and had to visit imdb to find out that that's the great Jack Thompson (of Breaker friggin Morant, and lots of other things) in the William Demarest role. This project screams quality. I cannot wait.

Love it.

My daughter wasn't watching this with me, but she was nearby and HEARD the trailer from the couch. She demanded that I turn it off immediately, due to how scared it made her. During the day. From across the room. Just those whispers. Effective as hell.

I'll probably have a few nightmares of her's to contend with.

I wish the trailer didn't show the nice old gardener getting his deserts but apart from that I like it and I'm amped to see the film.

So, we get this AND the Fright Night remake in August?  Huh.  August is lookin' pretty swanky for us horror fans.

Just wanted to say briefly that I was kindly invited to a private screening tonight and the movie is fantastic.  Everyone's anticipation is justified.  Troy, Nick, and everyone connected to making that film should be very proud.  Bravo.  What a beautiful, terrifying film.

Yay! Thanks! Did you throw a tomato when my credit finally happened?

The original little teaser trailer got me on its own; I came away from that appropriately unnerved, thinking the movie looked great. This makes it look even better, which I didn't expect as a possibility. Really can't wait for August.

 Tomorrow is a big day.

A bit of drama at the screening last night?

With any luck, this happened at one of the really scary moments.

Yeah, the footage I saw at last year's SDCC was pretty cringe-inducing IIRC. In a scary good way of course. Much was offscreen and done in sound design granted. I'm not too surprised about the R rating though, GDT, if that was just a taste. I'll be able to judge better when I see the whole thing though. Can not wait.

Since there's no official DBAOTD pre-release thread here, I wasn't sure where else to post this.  Hope it doesn't count as news.  Today sees the release of

Guillermo Del Toro: Don't Be Afraid of the Dark: Blackwood's Guide to Dangerous Fairies, a hardcover book for young adults by GDT and Christopher Golden, with illustrations by Troy.  And Amazon has it listed right now for a whopping 59% off!

http://www.amazon.com/Guillermo-Del-Toro-Blackwoods-Dangerous/dp/142313401X/ref=sr_1_4?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1311049851&sr=1-4

I ordered it just on the basis of how much I loved the movie and by the book's description:

Quote:
The illustrated novel takes place a hundred years before the movie begins. It chronicles the travels and adventures of Emerson Blackwood, a young nature scientist who begins to understand there’s more to the world than science understands. He travels across the globe, learning more and more about the world of secret and dangerous creatures. The book will have two components - the sections that tell the story of Blackwood's travels through the world, the people and creatures he encounters, and the increasing peril he finds himself in; and another set of sections which will show the illustrated "Field Guide to Dangerous Fairies" which Blackwood is creating.

Strange that there's so little promotion (or even mention) of the book online.  Hopefully, my copy will come in the mail soon.  Sounds fascinating.  Beautiful cover!

Sounds like an R Rated SPIDERWICK field guide. Nifty. Maybe I'll see a copy at SDCC.

Always made me wonder why Raymond Feist's "Faerie Tale" was never adapted. I'd watch the heck out of that too.
