Your friend's bands that are awesome...

Thread Starter

I hope this isn't a shameless link. I am not profiting in any way by this. I have so many friends in bands that it's insane... But these guys in particular are awesome. Like in a "If didn't ever know them I'd STILL listen to their shit even if it's not my style" good. I'm sure you know people who are ludicrously talented but need a break.

This is that spot!

If this is YOUR band, and you're bullshitting, well then, you're a poop.

NY77

Free download. A concept album (that kicks in after the second track) set in NYC in 1977. Mostly funk and hip-hop, a little Axl Rose, some James Brown, some rock, and some period punk. Good shit.

Oh, and a fuckton of period samples from shows/films/ads that would make it impossible to sell.

Downloads(free!): http://ny77.bandcamp.com/

Stump Hole Water

Only on iTunes as far as I know, but hey, samples. "Americana", if you dig the O Brother soundtrack, or old blues,  you may be into this, but yeah of course, sample it. Catchy as fuck, two brothers doing the majority of the singing/songwriting, but things are brought to life with a great band with guitar, mandolin nd some rad stand-up bass. And violin and trumpet on a few tracks.

Downloads: Check out "Stump Hole Water" on iTunes.

I quite liked The Timeline Post. Good stuff.

My contribution is some friends local to Phoenix, Arizona called The Dead Eyes of London. Garage rock with some Motown attitude thrown in.

Another Arizona-native band called Pinner. Standard rock and roll -- very solid stuff.

Amazing, in a Beefheart-meets-Jon Spencer way.
