Sony potential franchise loses a genius. What can they do now?

You guys really don't read the site before adding to the site, do you?

I did and I do.  Just thought I might add a little more of me to the discussion.

Additionally, no one had any idea why Russell left a couple days ago, when Ms. Rappe wrote her piece.  Knowing he has a completed script that Sony passed on is a new piece of info I found interesting. Something must have been really "off" about it, since why would you pass on a David O. Russell script?  That's where Matt/Collider's new info comes into play - and why I felt like there was something else to say.

It's funny that you say that, though - since I actually had a bit of a discussion with friends about Elisabeth's Uncharted story last night..

And another thing - no disrespect to Elisabeth, but I wish we could stop mentioning Fillion in conjunction with the Nathan Drake role - which is another big part of what I wrote that is nothing like the thing she wrote...

Who knew that more content is a bad thing...?

I wish people would stop mentioning Fillion in conjunction with ANYTHING that isn't on the small screen.

Dont get me wrong - I like Fillion a lot, but like Bruce Campbell was fifteen years ago (ironic that I mention him in my piece), he's become the nerd answer to everything.  I think he's a star.  I think he could be a movie star.  I think he might be fine in the role - but part of what's wrong with these kinds of discussions on the internet is that people get so locked in to what they think is right that they can't see anything else.  Nerds had exploding heads over Russell on this film, and all I could think was, "Three Kings is an action-adventure film with great characters, great comedy, and scary action - why do you think Russell can't do this?"

It's like, "Okay - who do you think should do it? Joel Schumacher? Ron Howard? Why not one of the best directors working today?  Are you hoping for something middle-of-the-road?"

But what little we know of his work on the film makes me think he had a great idea he wanted to shoehorn into this established franchise, thinking that maybe it was the only way for his idea to come to fruition. I'd love to read what he did. I'm sure it's great - it just doesn't sound like Uncharted at all.

I'd like to see them wait and try to get someone like Danny Boyle. I'd love to see him try something big like this. He's the only person that comes to mind that could do something interesting with it while maintaining what makes it Uncharted since that became so important. Still hope Russell does that film though.
