Josie and the Pussycats (2001)

I was checking out the IMDB and I couldn't believe that this movie came out ten years ago in April!?! I avoided it like the fucking plague until I was forced to watch it in 2003 by my girlfriend at the time and, FUCK ME, I LOVED this movie!!! IMHO it’s the best satire on the music industry since Phantom of the Paradise. It’s nothing revolutionary as a comedy but the jokes hit pretty well and I don’t feel like I’ve wasted my time after watching it. Well written, Directed, acted and very sharp. Its the type of smart comedy that you never see anymore.

Any love here for pussy……..cats?

Dujour means friendship!

I really enjoyed this waaaay back when I saw it on DVD.  I do know a guy who thinks it's a genuine classic.  He got a lot of shit for that from a mutual friend of ours.

You're friend is right and, in a just world, Josie and the Pussycats would be regarded as a satirical/comedic masterpiece! Even that name Du Jour (meaning - "of the day/moment") was ingenious not to mention the swipe at boy bands in general with their song "Backdoor Lover".

I fucking LOVE this movie, and I do think that it's horribly underrated.  People seem to bitch about the product placement in the movie, but for Pete's sake, it's of the damn joke.  I saw this in theatres and knew it was going to be a bomb when the sis and I were the only ones laughing, but I love it with no shame.  One of the only good things Tara Reid ever done, BTW.

I remember the directors commenting on the product placement and how they received no money from any of the companies for it.

The boys of Dujour were my favorite part of the movie.  Love their re-entrance during the climax.

My favorite gag is when Wyatt Frame (Alan Cumming) is testing out the mind control qualities of Du Jour’s last single in the record store. It works perfectly except for the Goth/Emo chick who recognizes that it’s manufactured trash to which Wyatt asks her for some time to listen to her complaints as which point he whispers into his cuff “Smells Like Teen Spirit”, cueing a white van that snatches her! Awesome. Everyones great in the flick but Cumming and Parker Posey are the MVP's.

Wow... in terms of what this movie did for the careers of its directing duo, it's similar to The Super Mario Bros Movie.  Neither director of Josie directed anything again.  Neither director of Super Mario ever directed a feature film again either.  I always thought Super Mario Bros got a little too much hate.  Of course, I saw that movie at an age that I was ready to accept anything affiliated with the Mario Bros.

Mr Moviefone's corruption of Josie always cracks my shit up.

I think it's a fucking crime that the Directors (Harry Elfont, Deborah Kaplan) never made another movie while fucking scum like McG and Brett Ratner are handed 200 million dollar budgets. Josie is a fucking GREAT movie and I know this may be considered blasphemy around here but I wish they had made Scott Pilgrim instead of Edgar Wright.

I unabashedly love this movie, and think it indeed is a lot smarter than it gets credit for.  No idea that the directors hadn't work since.  That's a shame.
