THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO TRAILER COMES. OFFICIALLY.

It's the feel-bad trailer for those of us who didn't post the red band.

I'll be waiting for it to hit the video store before I spend a penny on this pointless remake of a movie that only came out two years ago. Why is it that Hollywood has to take every decent movie (not GwtDT as I think the original is horribly overrated) made around the world and instantly remake it?!? The Ring, Let the Right One In etc...

It's too bad the fucksticks that run Hollywood wouldn't, say, MAKE SOMETHING ORIGINAL that isn't a remake or adaptation of a movie, comic book or old TV show. There are THOUSANDS of great books out there that would make quality movies but since these morons are illiterate, we can expect North American cinema to continue its slide right into the fucking shitter.

As for the movie itself, why the FUCK does this have a 100 million dollar budget?!? It’s a serial killer movie for fuck sakes!!! Can we really expect this flick to be as dark, violent and sexual as the original when that much money is on the line which makes the financiers adverse to risk?! Do these people really think they’ll sell 100 million dollars worth of tickets for this? Sad when you consider that last years Black Swan (better than anything Fincher has made in the last decade) only cost about 13 million.

I’m also supremely disappointed that David Fincher has made yet another serial killer movie. Se7en was and is his masterpiece while I thought Zodiac was nothing special and, let’s face it, Fincher hasn’t made a truly GREAT movie since Fight Club. Sorry but Panic Room was beneath his talents, Benjamin Button was outright garbage and practically a remake of Forrest Gump while The Social Network simply blew. I think he’s now got his head firmly up his culo as he’s now in his “Kubrick” phase of shooting 100 takes of everything whether he needs to or not. During pre-production of a movie you have a table reading where everyone goes through the script and fine tunes it before going to rehearsal stage to refine the process before shooting. If you’re shooting 100 takes of everything it’s because of either incompetence or being an egomaniacal douchebag that likes to make people jump through your hoops.

But then I wouldn’t be surprised if he needed to do at least 100 takes to get anything resembling a decent performance out of Rooney Mara who is, without a doubt, one of the worst fucking actresses working today. She was beyond wretched in that horrible Nightmare on Elm Street remake and couldn’t be any worse in the five minutes she was in The Social Network. Not to mention that she only has ONE facial expression, that of a deer caught in headlights. It’s well known that her family is loaded (her Father is Timothy Christopher Mara, the vice president of player evaluation for the New York Giants) and has been trying to buy her way into Hollywood. Either that or she must be screwing everyone in her path like Olivia Wilde who is another waste of space that has somehow managed to climb the Hollywood ladder despite a complete lack of talent beyond sucking cock.

In any case, this movie will be flaming shit as it has been made to capitalize on the inexplicable popularity of the fucking awful original film and its subsequent sequels, all of which are distinctly mediocre. I expect no less from this rehash.

Oh and Fincher, STOP WITH THE BROWN COLOR PALETTE as it looks like you've smeared shit on the lens of the camera. Se7en is the ONLY movie you’ve made that looks beautiful and that's because of Darius Khondji 's exquisite cinematography.

Eh, I was kinda more than happy to let this particular book and film phenom pretty much pass me by - then Fincher had to go and sign on for this remake.

I guess this is the way I'm going to be introduced to this story.

...on an unrelated side note, it never ceases to amaze me just how freaky I find people without eyebrows.

Really. We're really letting Creepy Thin Man back? Seriously?

The original film is an interesting adaptation of a fascinating, if heavily flawed book. The original Millenium Trilogy are kind of horribly written, you get the sense that because the books were published post-humously that no one wanted to edit Larsson's prose. What it means is that novels which should be lean and mean are actually kind of sluggish.

The original film adaptation plays like a take on Spoorloos (The Vanishing) and is a riveting little mystery film, which also happens to be kind of sociopathically hateful towards society in general. I'm expecting Fincher to take the source material and make something trascedent, the sheer energy and vibrancy of the trailer seems to suggest that the film could have an energy missing from both the turgid prose and rather overly formal initial adaptation.

I just don't get the appeal of the original movie and why it became a phenomenon? Some respected family man turns out to be a serial killer; whoop-dee-fucking-doo! I think the reason for the success of this shit is because the protagonist is covered with tattoo’s and piercing which appeals to the body modification wankers who only pollute their skin with that shit because they never got enough attention from mommy and daddy. It doesn’t make you special, it doesn’t make you an individual, it makes you a sucker for spending all that money although I myself have always fancied getting a tattoo on my forehead that says “FUCK THE GOVERNMENT!!!”

I thought the Red Band triler did a better joof convincing me I had to see this film, despite knowing nothing about the book. The blood/etc just made it look just that little bit crazier.

Being a NIN fan from way back, I have to say the music was excellent. I wonder if the soundtrack to this will be a little more industrial than the subdued Social Network score.

Christ.

....aaaaaaaand back on ignore you go.

ETA: pointed at the well named Creepy, not you Krie.

Speaking as someone who's seen all 3 of the films and the books, this looks almost like a shot by shot remake of the first film. Even the sets and locale look similar.

Still great trailer music and I probably watch this when it comes out. If only to see how Mara matches up against Noomi.

You can debate the merits of a remake that seemingly sticks so close to the original. Especially this soon. What you can't debate is the fucking greatness of this trailer. OK mr. Fincher, you can have my money.

I kind of need that Trent Reznor/Karen O version of 'The Immigrant Song'. Hope they stick it on the official site/Amazon.

Like I said, I'm of the opinion that the original film was interesting but kind of uncinematic. More like a really expensive TV show than anything else, with the camera kind of just letting stuff happen in front of it. I think Fincher is going to get to the heart of the material and produce something which will actually do the great concepts of the novels justice.

LOL, what?

On topic, that it is an amazingly kinetic trailer.  I would want to see the hell out of that movie even if I hadn't read the novel (which I found good, but not great).

I'm sure Craig will create a more interesting Blomquist.

I wasn't going to watch, much less run, the cell-phone leak (studio ploy or not) or even the poorly hosted trailer that popped up yesterday. Glad I didn't. Was so nice to see Cronenweth's photography and hear that cue in full quality.

I've not read the books and I've only seen the final movie (had to go to a screening- didn't intentionally jump in at the end) but what a boring, shitty slog the films became, even if they started out as something interesting.

Fincher's film looks alive and sophisticated- exactly what you'd expect from him.

I had just gotten/was listening to It's Blitz! around the time I read the first novel, so I've come to associate the Yeah Yeah Yeahs with these novels in my mind.  Always felt like a good fit to me, and I guess I wasn't the only one.  Was quite surprised and pleased to hear Karen O pop up in the trailer.

To be honest that shouldn’t be too difficult, Michael Nyqvist was insanely passive as Blomquist. It's pleasing to see Craig taking on roles like this, good to see him balancing being Bond with more diverse fare. He's one of my favourite actors and I'd hate for him to disappear from the scene once Bond wraps up.

I’m torn. I was intending to catch up with the Girl Who Played With Fire/Kicked The Hornet’s Next this year. But now I might just hold off and see if this gets some follow ups.

Gotta say, it's pretty fucking great to hear such a fantastic cover of my favourite Zeppelin number - I have to get a copy of that asap.

Well, that's certainly an awesome effin trailer. And despite my not really liking the original film, I'm looking forward to seeing what Fincher can do with this. At the very least I hope he makes it more lively and energetic. Mara looks aces, though.

To me, this whole story is really about how a middle-aged man wants to bang hot young punk chicks. The whole mystery is perfunctory and derivative. I hope Fincher can bring something better out of it. But as good as the trailer is, I'm still just getting middle aged man wants to bang hot punk chick.

Did you ever read the books or watch the films?

Larsson couldn’t help injecting himself into Blomquist, and as such his interactions play into his own weird mid life crisis.  However the books are kind of fascinating because they’re largely a fictional expose on very real societal stuff going on in Sweden. Once you get past the fat they’re as compelling an account of society as David Simon’s work.

Same here; I never would've thought Karen O would be as big a sell on a David Fincher movie as Fincher himself, but there it is.

If this any indication of the full movie soundtrack, I may need to have an mp3 player implanted in my ear so I can listen to it 24/7.

I still haven't gotten around to The Social Network, but the snippets of soundtrack I heard from that suggest that Reznor is a perfect Fincher collaborator.

I've had it on my rental list, high priority, for months. LoveFilm just won't send it out.

Wake me when they get to the second film with the unstoppable Swedish kickboxer who can FEEL NO PAIN.

$100 million again, Fincher? This dude must be the least-frugal filmmaker in Hollywood.

Yep. I skipped the latter two films in the original trilogy because the first film is nigh wall-to-wall drudgery and a grossly transparent masturbatory fantasy. Unless this version really tightens up the story, this is a no go for me, irrespective of Fincher's involvement.

Amazing trailer. I was already going to check this out just for Fincher, but now I even more hyped. And I gotta say, while everybody's going goo goo over Blake Lively, my eyes are on Rooney Mara, eyebrows be damned.

$100 million, really?  Why?  I thought Fincher went pretty modest (relatively) with the budget for The Social Network.  I thought this would follow suit.  Not a Benjamin Button suit.

Liked the first one well enough (best revenge ever) but not enough to see the 2nd or 3rd.

And I still haven't seen Zodiac or Social Network so it's unlikely I'm going to see this anytime soon but it does look good.  Also good to see Julian Sands getting some work.  His turn as Yves Cloquet in Naked Lunch freaked fuck out of me (pointless fact - he went to the same school as me).

You really should rectify that.  I'm by no means a Fincher fanboy, but I adore those two films, and think they're his best.

I know, I know.  Just no time.  The only movies I really get to see are the ones I go to with the kids and I'm too knackered at the end of the day to stay up late (unless if I'm doing work after hours and get some time to go to the flicks/watch DVD while waiting for stuff to happen).

Example.  I've had There Will be Blood on DVD for 9 months now and still haven't gotten round to watching it (saw it at the movies and loved it hence DVD purchase).  My leisure time comes in 30min to 1 hr bursts.

I've only seen the first film, but yeah, I definitely got a strong sense of deja-vu. Could just be fidelity to the source material I suppose. Liked the original well enough, but I have to admit already knowing the who-dunnit (and barring some drastic revisions, the major story beats) sort of kills some of the interest.

dont see why theres so much hate. not like the original trilogy was a masterpiece by any means. this is definitely going to blow the original out of the water

And since Fincher seems to want his actors to be able to pull off the proper accent, assuming he returns for the sequel (even if only as a producer) here's my casting suggestion..

Make it so!

Knowing nothing about the original film or novel(I know, shame on me), the teaser trailer doesn't do much to tell me what this is about. That said... Fincher, Craig, and another Reznor score. I dig the "Immigrant Song" cover quite a bit, and the visuals are strong. Love the single nightvision shot later on.

The new trailer is great. But the original trailer for the Swedish version isn't that bad as well.

this just moved to the top of my most anticipated of the year. like Spike Marshall said above, the original seemed like a made for tv special, why any fan of the original or the books aren't losing their minds waiting for this to release simply amazes me. i don't care what they change, with the cast and crew Fincher has assembled this is going to be one of those remakes that surpasses the original in all ways.

and yes! make it so! excellent casting choice
