Month?  Try the last 25 years or whenever News divisions were required to make money.  The News media will always go for the easy story or distraction because it's easy to sell and relatable.  I would love for this dedication to banking regulations, housing market, or any other real issue.  But man would turn away to Jersey Shore.

Pretty sad day.

Now that his political career is over, he should go to cable TV. That way he could keep that strong voice out there. Plus he has the right personality for it.

MSNBC should snap him up immediately.

Um . . . both?

As someone who is in Weiner's district, I think it sucks that he resigned. He was never hypocritical when it came to his politics, he was was a progressive leader that stood up for issues that the centrist Dems did not, and quite frankly, he did not break the law or any ethics codes. The only people who should pressure Weiner to resign are the people who voted him into office, and we are overwhelmingly on his side.

That said, I can't fault people for saying it is a distraction when shit like this happens: All major cable nteworks cut away when Pelosi talks jobs instead of Weiner   (sigh)

The revelations that the pictures and sexting solicitations that Weiner sent to Genette Cordova, Ginger Lee, and presumably others were unsolicited, unwelcome, and persistent makes me reevaluate my earlier position.  The moment this turns out to be a harassment scandal, whether the press reports it as one or not, is the moment that my sympathy for the Congresscreature evaporates and the news network man-hours spent shaming him begin to appear justified.

"Bwa-ha-ha...No 'High Road' for you, America! Ha ha ha!"

I maintain that the real issue here was not the um, "activity", nor even the cover up, it's the weird self-destructive yet attention seeking behavior of Weiner throughout these last few weeks. He could have dealt with this in so many better ways. The fact that he didn't makes me think there's more here than we (yet) know.

And maybe it's what Reasor says, these messages were not solicited. (Of course, those poor girls are going to say that now: maybe in the event they were more receptive).

Fact is, you look at those pics and messages and the guy comes off as just fucking weird. And then when confronted with what he's doing, he gets really weird, before going all out weird and checking himself in for compulsive Tweeting or some such. Weird. And Pathetic. That last is what sealed his fate.

America is just such a fucked-up bundle of repression, sexual neuroses and misplaced priorities.

To be honest I think that France must be the only country where sex scandals are treated with the proper weight.

As for Britain, I figured that after finding the tenth MP choked to death by a banana while dressed in a French maid outfit you'd be completely jaded. "Pictures of his penis? Quite inadequate!"

These days we will accept nothing less than video footage of a cabinet member jerking off out of a helicopter while hovering over a dairy farm. And even then the guy would be guest hosting HAVE I GOT NEWS FOR YOU by the end of the week.

FWIW

from the NYTimes

Fake Identities Were Used on Twitter in Effort to Get Information on Weiner

Quote:

At least three months before the revelation that former Representative Anthony D. Weiner was sending lewd messages and photos to women online, a small group of self-described conservatives was monitoring his exchanges with women on Twitter. Now there is evidence that one or more people created two false identities on Twitter in order to collect information to use against him.

A Twitter user employing a fake name posed as a 16-year-old California high school girl in May and tried to get Mr. Weiner to be her prom date, according to people with knowledge of the communications and a review of documents. The person behind another Twitter account created under a fake name claimed to be her classmate and offered to provide the group with incriminating evidence about Mr. Weiner.

Conservatives, you say?  Up to no good, you say?

"Debate you honestly and openly in the public square on the issues of the day that concern everyone? Fuck that, we're gonna try to trick you into a sex scandal, or an ACORN pimp scandal, or a fake sex yacht scandal, or maybe just tap your phone line. That's what we conservatives stand for."
