E3 2011 discussion

E3 is next week. What are you excited for? What will be the big reveals? Let's discuss!

I'm eagerly awaiting the Sony conference. Sony usually has all the swagger in the world at E3, kind of interested to see if the hacks will make them tone down the arrogance a little.

This is just gonna be an interesting year altogether. I'm a little curious about what Microsoft's got in store. They've been uncharacteristically quiet the last few months. Sony and Nintendo have new systems to introduce, neither of which i currently give two shits about in terms of sheer want, but im still interested in the details.

There's already some pre-E3 announcements happening, though, including Prey 2, which looks like it could be a hell of a lot of fun, even with another boring ass paleface protagonist, and an HD Silent Hill 2 & 3 Collection that I should probably go find out who Konami wants whacked so I could be playing it tomorrow.

Holy shit!

WANT

As always, I am anticipating the conferences from the three major companies. I'm probably looking forward to the Nintendo one the most right now since I am really curious to see what this new console thing is all about. New hardware is cool after all.

Aside from that I am really looking forward to seeing footage and reading previews of a lot of the game I'm looking forward to like Darksiders 2, Bioshock Inifinite, and Thief 4 (PLEASE let this one be at the show!). There's usually a game or two that will sneak up on me to grab my attention during E3, so I hope that happens again this year.

Mostly I'm just looking forward to the deluge of gaming news that's coming next week. It's always fun sifting through the tidal waves of information coming out and speculating on what will be the biggest news from the show. Next week is going to be fun.

They announced another "HD Collection" for the PS3 yesterday that includes Metal Gear Solid 2, 3, and Peace Walker. It doesn't include the first for whatever reason, but I might have to pick that collection up when it comes out. I've only really played the Twin Snakes version of the original game, so finally playing through the sequels could be fun.

They also announced a Zone of the Enders collection and the Silent Hill collection that Justin Clark mentioned.

The Metal Gear Solid, Zone of the Enders and Silent Hill HD Collections are PS3/XBox 360 I think.

Paramount just announced a co-op Star Trek action game where you play as Kirk and Spock. Hrm.

I REALLY hope that a part of Sony's announcements is more information on Planetside Next/Planetside 2.  I kind of doubt it will be represented, but I'm hoping.  Planetside was the only true MMOFPS I've ever seen, and now that technology has kind of caught up to the idea I can't wait to see what they do with it.  The idea of 300 person battles with current gen graphics and internet connections which allow it has me pretty excited.

Oh cool! Even better then!

I hope Nintendo's new console is everything they're hyping it up to be. Unfortunately the bar is really high. Sony needs to have games and some real contrition for the PSN debacle. I dont really care all that much for the NGP so if Sony spends a lot of time on it, I'll be concerned. Microsoft needs games and lots of 'em.

Doing what? Sword fighting? Shooting Klingons in the face? Wooing the ladies? I guess it all depends on who is making it on whether I'll be interested or not. I mean, surely somebody could make a cool game out of that, but nothing in the history of Star Trek games says this is a good idea to me.

Perhaps a Star Trek game modeled after the Mass Effect style, but with co-op? I'd be up for that.

I was actually caught off guard by the new 'Tomb Raider'...looks a bit too much like 'Uncharted' with boobs, but the boobs seem to have been toned down to an actual terrestrial female as opposed to a 'Real-Doll' which is definitely a plus.

No actual gameplay, but my fingers are basically crossed...

...what is this? The 3rd reboot of this franchise?

Finally Roddenberry's vision of the future will be boldy imagined as a 3rd person shooter. Explore new worlds, meet fantastic new species and vaporize them!

Alex Augustine, I am ready for the...Star Trek Game, to be...Beamed to my 360, next summer, after my...Federation Credits, are approved!  Konami teased a new game called...CONTRA!  Those are the...Two games I care about now!  Seriously, though...Serious Sam 3, just might be for me as well!  Maybe...King Of Fighters XIII, will arrive before the next decade or before...Duke Nukem Forever 2!  Whichever is faster!

Oh man, I loved that trailer. It definitely did its job of getting me interested in a new Tomb Raider game for the first time in forever.

In case anyone hasn't seen it yet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RN7_8Yholm4

Make it more like the first Mass Effect (ie. leaning more towards the RPG side of things) and I would be drooling for that game, especially if I could walk around the Enterprise interacting with the crew.

I remember my wife watching me play the original MASS EFFECT for a while one night and asking if it was a STAR TREK game.

Seriously. And I've downright LOATHED that series since #2. I'll need some gameplay before anything else, but that's a hell of a way to reintroduce the world to Lara Croft.

...I've been a Tomb Raider from Day 1...it took me Chronicles and (hock...spit)...'Angel of Darkness' to royally turn me off'.

But, I still get them when they are cheap...'Legend', 'Anniversary', and 'Underworld', I've played 'em all...all have been by and large disappointing...

Maybe they need to go back to huge polygons, where our minds fill in the blanks...

This video gives me slight hope....

...slight, mind.

I kinda like the dark new design for Lara.

That Prey 2 trailer with the Johnny Cash song kicks major ass.

I'm sure I'll regret this after it's shown, but I'm actually interested in seeing what Kinect-ivity Mass Effect 3 will have.

Also- you think G4 lost Microsoft's press conference because they always cut to commercials during MS's big reveals?

Wait ... what? G4 isn't broadcasting Microsoft's press conference tomorrow?! SO NOT COOL.

No.  Spike TV has the exclusive for both Microsoft and Electronic Arts.

All right. As long as it's on TV. I don't feel like dragging my laptop around all morning just to watch. Thanks for the heads up.

I recall that last year we had a bit of fun watching the conferences live and commenting as they went. So here are the links, courtesy of Giantbomb:

What say you gentlemen? Should we give this a try?

Well, it would give us an excuse to use Chud's chat room, I guess. I'll be watching the Microsoft conference today at least. I'm not sure if I want to bother with watching Sony tonight though. I'd rather be playing games when I'm at home.

Well, it looks like we'll be seeing something on the Halo 1 remake AND Halo 4 at the Microsoft conference today. The official XBox website had a page up early that has since been replaced. However, the internet being what it is, there are screenshots of a page mentioning Kinect Star Wars, Dance Central 2, Kinect Sports 2, and Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary. That same page also has an ad at the top with the description "The news millions of Halo fans have waited for: Halo 4 is on the way. But that's not all..."

Of course it could all be an elaborate Photoshop hoax, but I think it's probably legit.

Holy crap, the Tomb Raider trailer has some might impressive graphics. If it's more like Uncharted than anything else I'll happily play it and on the plus side it looks to be based in a Bermuda Triangle type area which is a plus.

I'm counting on people to be discussing big announcements, since my work firewalls pretty much anything except CHUD for some reason.

Microsoft's video feed is up. Currently showing the nifty looking stage.

The conference is starting off with a live demo of Modern Warfare 3. Looks like a CoD game, but the underwater segment was kind of cool.

Up next is a live demo of the Tomb Raider reboot.  I think it looks freaking awesome, both graphics wise and gameplay. The demo is of Lara trying to escape from a creepy cave system. Definitely checking out the HD footage of this later.

Tried a little fakeout by talking about EA Sports stuff in order to lead into another EA title, Mass Effect 3!!!  Demonstrating Kinect functionality.  Liara, Garrus, and Shepard in party...meet up with Morden. End up fighting a giant mech...until smash cutting to logo.

Holy crap! You literally speak the dialogue option that you want! That's actually pretty cool. Also, you can direct your party members by name in combat, directing which ability you want them to use. They didn't demo any motion controls though (thank goodness).

Keep the live demos coming! Up next is Kinect functionality for Ghost Recon Future Soldier. Showing their gun customization that uses what looks like Minority Report-style gestures and voice commands ("Optimize for close combat"). After changing weapons stats, you get to test it on a gun range apparently. Looked like the guy was aiming with Kinect as well.

The feed is still shitty for me. Barely got to watch 10 seconds. Why the fuck did they bother putting it up?

I'll have to watch the video, but honestly that sounds like just the next step in the evolutionary chain that ends with me grafted to a sofa.

XBox Live stuff now. New look for dashboard. Youtube is coming. Bing search coming to XBox with voice commands...looks like it searches the XBox marketplace, not the web. Live TV is being added.  All of this is launching in the fall.

Doesn't sound like anything that far removed from what that Tom Clancy RTS did a couple of years ago.

Edit: Fuck it, I lost my patience waiting for this to load. I'll go play some actual games.

I'm watching the feed on Gametrailers now. It seems to be doing fine, at least for me.

Thanks for the tip. That works.

Hey, it's Dane Cook. And a black dude.

LOL! I can't believe Cliff Blaszinski is showing off Gears of War 3 with Ice T.

Bodycount is re-uniting to make a song about Horde Mode? Bullshit! Fuck you Ice-T.

Dammit! I was kind of interested in the Ryse trailer until the Kinect stuff showed up.

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary looks pretty good. Includes online multiplayer and co-op. Comes out Nov 15th? Of course it does.

Now you too can vaguely flail in front of your TV. Feel the shame!
