Im looking to upgrade my 7.1 system  from some really crappy speakers. However I don't want to spend alot of money. I don't need the best quality just a good jump. Any suggestions?

New Egg has been running some great deals on their Polk home theater speakers; I just replaced my crappy RCA center, rear surround and subwoofer with a PSW10 sub ($90), a CS1 center channel ($65) and a pair of RM7 Satellite B rear surround speakers ($40) and my Kenwood receiver has never sounded better.

Deal must be over. They have the cheaper price listed but when you click it, it jumps up like 30-40 bucks.

Well for anyone who cares im about halfway through the process. I grabbed a pair of Polk Monitor 30 speakers for my fronts. And I got a Polk CS10 for my center. The fronts and the center together only cost me 200 bucks. The sound is really incredible. As for my side and back surrounds I was thinking of just grabbing 2 more pairs of Monitor 30's since all of the Polk satellites are about the same price. As for the subwoofer well............that has to wait a while. The old Onkyo woofer is doing alright and I plan on buying a really GREAT subwoofer when I can the funds. So redoing all of your speakers with the exception of a subwoofer for 400 feels about right to me.

Huge fan of Polk, and frys is selling some R300 model I think, 2 for $100. I use them for my rears and recommend them for someone who doesn't want to shell out money for a stand (they were my fronts till I upgraded to monitors). Have a 5.1 set (I prefer it to 7.1)

Started with
7.1 Polk RM6750B Satellite Home Theater Speaker System
-floor sample $100

Replaced 2 fronts, now the rears with R300s
-$100 for both

2 fronts with Polk Audio Monitor50 Series II.
-$150 for both

Couple that with a PS3 and an Onkyo 606, I'm in heaven. Oh I have some 55" sony hdtv with it.

Now I need to get a remote control that controls everything.

Logitech Harmony remotes are the way to go! Easy to use and easy to program. I love my Harmony. The only downside is that it doesn't control the PS3. You need to buy an adapter (made by Logitech) to control the PS3. I shelled out for it. Ahahaha, I needed it control everything!! EVERYTHING! But yeah, any one I know who has a Harmony loves it.

BAH!

I got mine for $60 but its one of the "entry" level models. The Harmony 550. It was on sale as a "hot" deal around Christmas time a few years back. The higher end Harmony remotes you don't really need. They look fancy and cool but they do the same job as the mid to low range Harmony models. They just might control more devices is all.
