inFamous 2

No thread for this yet?

The demo's a blast. Cole starts the game loaded with whatever powers and karma points he gained in the first game, the latter having a tangible (but likely cosmetic?) impact on story events. Could this game retroactively make inFamous' largely pointless karma decisions more important? Incoming reviews suggest that it's an improvement on the already impressive first game, especially regarding locomotion and the strength and acquisition of Cole's various powers.

I'll never finish the Homicide desk at this point.

Wait. There's an Infamous 2 demo out? I'll have to check it out later today.

So this builds off your old Infamous 1 save?  That's kind of interesting.  I think I lost (read accidently deleted) mine, but it is a cool concept.

Loved the first one, so I'll definitely be getting this at some point down the line.

Yeah, I just happened across it as I was browsing the store after it came back. If inFamous 2 is as good as it looks, I hope it doesn't become a casualty of the PSN debacle.

It actually reads trophies, which will mark the first time I've given a shit about trophies.

This is very fun so far, but I have the same question I had in Infamous 1: How does Cole bathe?

When's the last time you saw bacteria on a live wire? Cole is a hostile environment for germs.

I also take it he doesn't eat or drink, either.

Cole - the superhero who can only fight crime if it isn't raining. Bad guys long ago gave up on machine guns and brought super soakers.

Seriously though, this is a blast. Simply traversing the city is fast, fun, and easy, and the action is even better this time around.

The first two story hours (I just destroyed the chopper after the citywide chase) are standard tutorial stuff, but I'm enjoying scavenging for shards and hunting pigeons a ton. The art design and color palette make New Marais so much more fun to explore than Empire City. It's like bouncing around a neon lime candyscape. The voice acting seems so much more naturalistic this time out, even if Cole sounds like a skinny Larry the Cable Guy. Starting the game with a stock set of powers (and the static boost ability) was a wise move.

In theory, the user generated missions are neat, but every time I check one out, it yanks me out of  the game. I think I'll hold off on these until my evil playthrough. If the Sucker Punch UGC missions were designed using the content generator (and I'd assume they are), then it's amazingly powerful. I wonder if I can get the militia to march in dick formation.

Yeah, I'll never finish LA Noire.

I just watched the Game Trailers review and I'm super psyched for this. I much prefered inFamous 1 over other open world games (GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption) as I much prefer tearing things up as a super being rather than 'reality'.

Tying power-unlocks to side missions, stunts, and shard collecting might be inFamous 2's best idea. Unlike film reels, blast shards and side missions have actual gameplay value.

The faces in the cutscenes are SO MUCH BETTER. Light and fucking day, here.

Anyway, fun. Fun fun fun. Was so focused on doing blast shard hunting and main mission stuff I forgot about side missions. And then spent the rest of the evening knocking those out. Waaaaay better than the stuff from the first. I've done 10 and none have been the same. The new take on racing past the spotlights is badass.

Giving you the option to customize your power layout is very cool and very smart. Dropping fools with the Magnum Lightning right now. Pretty cool.

I wouldn't say it's the leap in quality that Uncharted to Uncharted 2 was, but it's in the same neighborhood.

To anyone playing this: is it possible to drop down from a ledge to the next-nearest ledge beneath Cole without having him plummet to the ground? Strategically climbing downwards can be tricky. I recall having difficulty with this during the first game.

When you press circle button to drop down, hold the movement stick forward towards the wall and he should auto cling to the next one...at least that what I do in the first Infamous on those deactivated the listening device side missions or shard collecting.

Just finished. The voice acting keeps a mostly pat storyline afloat, so I can forgive it for introducing a fucking super soldier plot and what boils down to X2's mutants vs. humans conflict. The boss fights were eye candy, for sure, but they were painfully easy; for my Cole, a lone militia gang proved far more dangerous than either Beast or Giant Enemy Crab.

Still, it's a vast improvement over the first game, and might be the best superhero game out there. The karma decision at the end is a doozy - It's the first moment in either inFamous game that actually made me pause and think. Kudos to Sucker Punch for (ostensibly) ending this branch of the inFamous story. I can honestly say that I didn't see the last mission coming.

Hands up if you prefer the Ice Launch to the Just Cause 2 grappling tether.

The Ice Launch is totally badass.  Combined with the upgraded sonic thrusters, mobility is crazy easy in this game.

Glad to hear good things.  I enjoyed the first game but wasn't amazed by it (especially after playing Prototype first) but I've got some credit sitting around and I may have to pick this one up whenever I finally get a break from work.

I know it wasn't really touted as a selling point up until release week, but the karma-based trophy imports don't offer anything substantial. Depending on your playthrough, you'll get a ten-second callback to inFamous' first karma decision and a few snippets of different audio in the dead drops. It makes me wonder if they had an extra week in the development sprint and just decided to throw it in, because it's very half assed.

I'm closing in on the end, having just restored power to the last zone. I'm a little disappointed.

Pros:
- The game looks better and seems more polished in a lot of areas, the cut scenes, etc.
- The melee is a nice addition and once the recharge finisher is available, becomes worth while.
- Kuo and Nix are a decent addition.Make the plot a bit interesting and have a few cool team missions
- The movement powers are better (but more on this below). Ice jumping, improved glide, grinding wires is fun.

Cons:
- The environments are disappointing to me. The first had tunnels and a few weird cool structures (the prison, the cargo container fortress, the junk tower). While I like Flood Town, everything else is pretty plain.
- The movement powers make the environment trivial anyway. There's nothing that is too hard to get over and past very quickly. I find this removes a lot of strategy from the fights. It's simple to get some height advantage and rain down destruction. I remeber the first game made it harder to get into a good position.
- The bigger enemies are a bit tedious. The diggers in particular seem have me spamming grenades/missiles and hoping it didn't go underground, then finding more ammo and repeating.
- So far it's too easy and doesn't require much strategy. I have died but it's mainly been due to bad luck. Eg. a bug knocked me down that full health hen something else hit me immediately after killing me.
- Many of the powers seem a bit useless, when the better ones ae available. Eg. Bolt stream is easiy superior to the other bolts. I don't know if I ever really used the pincer or artilllery bolts

So yeah, as a major fan of the first game, I think they made some good improvements, but I'm only rarely seeing the thrilling battles I remember from the first.
