BOND 23 STILL FLIRTING WITH ACTRESSES, VILLIANS, AND LOCATIONS

Let's run down what we've got on the new Bond.

Is it weird that I usually don't get bothered by product placement? If I notice it, either it's REAAALLLY overt, or it's just a bad movie. Otherwise, it makes perfect sense that a character would use a real-world product of some sort.

Also, I think we're beyond the looking glass and know how product placement works, so even the most casual viewer has learned to acknowledge and then ignore it afterward. If a Bond movie has a sexy, extra-long close-up of the car, I think we all get what's going on.

Product placement has been part of Bond's world since Aston Martin signed up for Goldfinger. Just so long as there's no scene-smearing dialogue like the Omega/Rolex fumble in Casino Royale, I see no great impact here.

Yup. In fact I find a Bond film without the Sony logo displayed at every oportunity distracting.

Product placement isn't bad for Bond as long as its not too overt. When done right it fits with the character because Bond has always been about quality brands.

However there would be a downside to it. When EON wanted to give Bond an Aston Martin again, Ford would only allow it if they would feature protagonists driving Ford brand cars hence why we get unfortunate scenes like Bond driving a Focus in CR.

That kind of worked as a visual joke in a Bond origin story, though.

Thanks for the shout-out. In my defense, I only realized it was Nick P sending in the Gemma Chan scoop after the fact. I inferred from his post in the Bond thread that he sent it to y'all around the same time as well.

And it's not that there's product placement (Bond's been dropping names since Dr. No), it's that this is the most product placement money EVER for a Bond flick. It'll be interesting to see how it shakes out.

Having survived Fringe's utterly inept handling of product placement (yeah, yeah, it's how they can afford to make the show), I'm honestly thinking the Bond films don't handle it that badly at all.

I agree that product placement is as integral to Bond as chase scenes, tuxedos and blue balls.

Also, I hate to be that guy, but it's "villains."
