TERMINATOR MAY GO THE SIDEQUEL ROUTE WITH LESS SCHWARZENEGGER, MORE PAUL WALKER

Terminator is bound to end up on the big screen sooner rather than later, but Megan Ellison and co. are definitely still working out the kinks. During Cannes, Ellison took a break from her super high-brow investment track (PTA, Kaufman, Hillcoat, The Coens) to nab the rights to Terminator while attempting to orchestrate Schwarzenegger’s return … Continue reading

Is Megan a relative of Harlan? Hilarious if true.

He would still sue her.

Paul Walker? Please no.

Ever.

"I'll be back brah".

There was a Dark Horse Comics Terminator comic released last year that had Kyle Reese not dying in his battle in 1984 as part of the plot. He ends up as an old man in the future at the beginning of the comic. It was pretty cool.

For last name infringement and/or genetic plagiarism.

Didn't the mediocre reviews and performance of Salvation indicate to the filmakers that its time to stop beathing this deadhorse/franchise. ?

Rights changed hands. They didn't pay for them to sit on them.

Salvation was a great idea that just wasn't executed well. That and the subtitle didn't make any sense (after the re-writes of course). We can all thank Bale for what ended up in the final cut of the film. I say this as someone who liked the movie too.

Ellison and Lin are shopping this around as a two-film package, so whatever they have planned storywise will leave it open for a sequel.  They are supposedly shooting for these entries to close out the series.

Why are they not waiting for Arnold?  Because the rights to the Terminator franchise revert back to James Cameron in 2018.  That gives them six years to get their two films into production.  These will get made with or without Arnold.

BTW, I completely agree with you, Rene.  Salvation was a poor execution of a great idea..............especially when they killed off the most compelling character in the film (Marcus).

Glad I'm not the only one who found him compelling, Bob. People can say Worthington is a void all they want, but I find him to be a great actor, and killing off Marcus really was a stupid decision on their part.

I'd love to see how they integrate Arnold into these 2 potential films, but yeah, they need to just make these as quick as possible. Take a cue from the first one and make them not sprawling epics, nor a low budget production, but something in between. Something that won't be in danger of not making it's money back, and that they can be sure to make that second film. A sort of "back to basics" approach if you will.

Nope, she's Larry Ellison's, the Oracle guy's daughter. Hence her billions.

I'm OK with this. The timeline is already bungled.

Eh, time to let it die. The general public isn't interested. Why would Arnold comeback with this? He's done it already. And he's 63!

I have a feeling that Cameron WILL let it die once the rights revert back to him in seven years, which is why they are scrambling to milk it now.  I don't care what they do, as long as they give me a decent movie.  There are plenty of possibilities for this series, so long as we get a decent screenwriter on board who has a cool take.

Yeah, I have the same feeling. Cameron must be aching to get the rights back so he can keep them and never let another movie be made as long as he's alive. That or he does the amazing and does HIS version of what he would have liked to have done after Terminator 2. He has to have had ideas in his head over the years before they made the 3rd one in 2003.

I doubt he would direct another Terminator film.....................but I wouldn't put it past him to produce one at some point.  He was obviously more than willing to give McG advice during the making of Salvation.  As far as directing goes, Cameron's got Avatar 2 (2014) and Avatar 3 (2015) next.................after which he will likely move on to do his (possibly multi-film) Battle Angel adaptation.  I can't see him dropping any of his dream projects to direct another Terminator film himself.

In the end though, I suspect he will just let the franchise rest.............at least for a long while.

Haven't been interested in any Terminators since Cameron jumped ship.  It's like comparing any of the Jaws sequels to the first one...there's no comparison to be made.

I'm sure Arnold will hit it, maybe even get it pregnant.

Oracle = Skynet

It all makes sense.

If they can return the franchise to a more suspense/horror vein, I'll be there.

Even T2 blew their wad with the T1000 by not having him blend in the way Arnold did in the 1st film. Just imagine John Conner being in a crowd and not knowing who will kill him.

Bring on a camouflaged Terminator! Not just shape shifting, but also Predator stealth.

Oh and how about some freaken lasers?

If Justin Lin has it, I'll watch.
