Stand-up-and-cheer/fist-pumping "Fuck yeah!" movie moments

What are the triumphant movie moments that make you want to stand up and cheer and/or pump your fist and yell "Fuck yeah!"? I guess I'll start us off:

 

-Several in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, but the best are probably "If you want him, come and claim him!", "YOU! SHALL NOT! PAAAASSS!", anything Aragorn does at Amon Hen, Boromir's last stand (before it makes you cry like a bitch), Gandalf brings the cavalry to Helm's Deep, Gandalf knocking out Denethor and shouting "Prepare for battle!", "I am no man!", and of course Sam's "Let him go, you filth!"

 

-The buildup to and including "Let's show this prehistoric bitch how we do things downtown! Throw it!"

 

-Wolverine's rampage inside the mansion in X2. An odd pick, I know, but after years of having neutered versions of the character on TV and the like, it was immensely gratifying to see him finally cut loose.

 

-Indiana Jones blasts the swordsman, although that one makes me laugh my ass off as well.

 

-Vader throws the Emperor down the drain, especially since we've spent the entirety of the Emperor's screen time begging for him to die.

 

-When Kiki finally manages to save Tombo at the end of Kiki's Delivery Service.

 

-And finally, when a visibly wounded and tired Nausicaa nevertheless manages to get the baby Ohm from the two Pejite soldiers. By holding them at gunpoint. Miyazaki's penchant for badassery is totally underrated.

My most recent moment of doing this was while watching PUNCH-DRUNK LOVE, when Barry fights back against the asshole hillbilly's and starts whooping them and smashing their car up with their own crowbar... I hadn't seen the end of the movie before and that definitely got a fist pump out of me.

That Kick-Ass jet-pack moment always fell flat for me.  Dunno why.  Must just be one of those things.  It could explain why I felt a little cold towards the movie.

I haven't watched the film in years, but my all-time favorite moment in this category is Neo fully embracing his destiny as the One, stopping bullets in mid-air and blocking Agent Smith's blows with one hand.  It was one of the rare times when I almost leaped to my feet in the theater.

First one that came to mind was Doc Holliday showing up to the gunfight with Johnny Ringo, topped off with them showing us just how fast he is.

 

Also, "Show's over, Motherfuckers!"

Maybe I'm alone in this, but I would have to say the recently-released Submarine when the lead boy is preparing for that night of lovemaking with Jordana, only to be greeted with that loooooooooong wait, staring at the door. I hooted and hollered like a little boy.

Mrs. Carmody taking one in the cranium after two hours of insane, religious fueled, bat-shit fucking crazy right-wing demagoguery in The Mist. I startled some people in the theater when that happened.

Hardly a "stand up and cheer" film overall, but Ollie Weeks's big moment in The Mist  set off a wave of fist pumping in my theater.

Tom Stall (Viggo Mortensen) dispatches would-be diner robbers with extreme prejudice in A History of Violence.

 

William Munny (Clint Eastwood) kills the goddamn fuck out of everybody at the end of Unforgiven.

Continuing on the Tarantino kick, three moments in Inglorious Basterds come to mind: Shoshanna's black-and-white face, looming over and laughing at the Nazis as the theater goes up in flames, Hitler getting blown to bits, and Raine leaving his mark on Landa.

You're not the only one.  Besides, Hit Girl walking in with the music from For a Few Dollars More playing, while more low key, was a perfect cinematic moment.  Everything after that paled in comparison.

You know, I am not going to lie... that moment when Daniel kicks Johnny in the face (even after the crude slow-mo on my VHS player revealed Johnny leads with his grill) is still one of the most triumphant of all time for me.

These. Definitely these. Especially the death of Mrs. Carmody. Everyone in the theater was happy when she finally got what she deserved.

 

I'll add the killing of Joaquin Phoenix in Gladiator, and of course Popeye finally killing Frog 1 at the end of French Connection II. That moment is so bad ass and triumphant, it's the final frame of the movie before the credits roll.

Taking me back to one of my dorkiest memories of my teenage years now.  I got so visibly geeked in that moment that when I walked out of the movie with my friends I was kind of embarrassed.
 

 

Speaking of inappropriately enthusiastic fuck yeahs, I remember going to Legends of the Fall; I was so excited for that flick, and it ended up being so disappointing... but what made it worth seeing was, after this moment, a rather overly excited man (who one imagines now watches about 12 hours of Fox News a day) yelled out "Yeah, screw the government!!" and everybody laughed at him.

For me, The Insider is chock full of moments like this, especially once Bergman's 60 minutes piece airs unedited after all of his chess playing. It's the rare example of journalist as trickster god. Also, Plummer's Mike Wallace chewing out that one guy for taking him out of context.

I always liked it when Vince Vaughn lays out Bradley Cooper at the end of Wedding Crashers.  Cooper plays the perfect douche bag asshole throughout the film, you were just begging for that to happen.

I'm a big fan of "There's only one man who can help me!" at the end of BTTF2. Smash-cut to the 1955 version of Doc Brown doing the things we know happen at the end of BTTF1. The whole last five minutes of that movie leave me with a big shit-eating grin on my face every time.

 

Also, HOOSIERS ...

 

"You need one more, coach."

 

"My team is on the floor."

Some good choices.  I third The Insider.  Bruce McGill murders that scene.

 

Staying with Michael Mann...

Last of the Mohicans - the cliff fight, although drenched in sadness, is amazing.  Gets the blood pumping quite effectively.

 

 

Speed Racer - when Speed restarts the Mach 6 and tears into the rest of the race.  And again when he crosses the finish line.

 

Audiences I was with loved it when Aragorn beheaded Lurtz towards the end of the FOTR (already mentioned).

 

Audiences also seemed pretty pleased when Jack Sparrow stole the Commodore's ship: "He may be the best pirate I have ever seen!"

Way of the Gun: Sarah Silverman gets what she deserves.

 

Superman - The Movie: he catches the helicopter, and John Williams earns his paycheck; he unleashes a primal scream and launches into the air.

 

The Dark Knight: "I'm counting on it."  A perfect Batman scene; too bad they couldn't sustain that level of bad-assery from the character.

 

Pretty much everything that happens after Butch slips his bonds and knocks out a gimp.

 

The fight against the nihilists, and John Goodman channeling Mike Tyson.

 

Speaking of the Coen Bros, Cogburn's charge got roaring applause in my theater.

 

And it goes without saying, pretty much every Sergio Leone western climax.
