Er, sorry, what's this from?

I'd have to also respectfully disagree with the jet pack scene in KICK-ASS.. probably the only part of the movie that I didn't care for.. it just felt a little cheap to me.

Sorry, never saw it.... don't look at me like that! There's a metric ton of shit I haven't watched yet, believe me.

I can only speak for myself, but I've never really been one to stand-up-and-cheer/fist-pump and go 'fuck-yeah' literally.  I just don't have it in me to be consciously outwardly emotional like that  Hahahaha.  But I do get that feeling.  It's usually expressed in a face full of goosebumps.

The moment from the Dark Knight for me is when the semi flips over. Maybe the only time I've actually heard an audible "OH SHIT!" in the theater. So great.

The Professional - Leon lays waste to everyone (EVERYONE!), then "This is from Mathilda."

DARK KNIGHT: That ridiculously awesome flip he does on the wall with the Batpod. When I saw this premiere at midnight, the audience (including me) went apeshit at the moment.

Collateral - When Vincent kills the two scumbags in the alley.

And Bill Pullman's speech in Independence Day.  Of course, I don't actually stand up, cheer, and fist pump to these because I'm not a fucking weirdo.

"I never said thanks"

"And you'll never have to"

SWOOSH!

Isn't that a moment that belongs in the "Makes me laugh in Batman's face" thread?  I actually imitate that line when I want to make myself laugh.

Forgot to add the sarcasm tag.

Well, fuck both of you (not really), I like that moment. It really shows that Batman and his city have truly defeated the Joker.

Well, the idea of the moment itself was fine.  It was really the combination of Bale's growl combined with the out-of-breath delivery that ended up botching the delivery for some.

Spidey stopping that train in Spider-Man 2 gets me every time. I'm embarrased to say that sometimes I watch it honestly wondering if he'll be able to stop it "this time."

I should hope not.  Everyone knows there's a more appropriate response to that speech.

Ok, I'm gonna be a massive dork for a second:

Early in Transformers: The Movie, when Optimus Prime transforms, blasts off, & starts picking off bad guys in mid-air.

I also remember that intro to the GI Joe: The Movie being a 5 minute fist-pump.

"Look in your heart! Look in your heart!"

"What heart?"

*Blam*

Bourne vs. Desh in BOURNE ULTIMATUM, especially when Bourne starts wailing on Desh with that fucking book.  But then, most of the BOURNE action scenes make me wanna do a fist pump.

Also, a little love for when Rudy sacks the quarterback at the end of the season's last game.  Not a dry eye in that auditorium, let me tell ya.

BRICK, when Brendan knocks Brad the fuck out.

I get pretty emotionally involved in movies and sometimes cheer or laugh really loudly like a fool even when I'm watching a movie alone. Most of the time, I don't mind if there's no one around to share those moments. There are exceptions, though. One example happened as I watched "300" by myself on DVD. When Queen Gorgo gets her revenge on Theron by stabbing him while echoing his pre-rape words ("This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this."), I really wished I was at the movies cheering in unison with the audience.

Agreed. I'm fully backing the moment in the Mist though.

At least no one has brought up the curb stomp in the beginning of American History X. That could be awkward.

That's got nothing on the "Is that you, Megatron?" bit, but yes I agree.

"I said quietly, asshole."

Micheal Rooker throwing that guy off the mountain in Cliffhanger.

Phil was giving me shit on Facebook for this, but I just think this thread shows some really weird reactions to some movies. I think a lot of people kind of refuse to engage with a film on an emotional level and sort of reduce stuff to 'it sucked/it rocked'. This thread seems to be showing people who are unwilling to take the the source material on it's own terms. I mean if you've watched The Sopranos enough to get to the scene mentioned in this thread, and you STILL think the show is trying to glorify Tony and his actions you're kind of a deplorable person, imo.

....Whaaaaat? We're totally engaging with these films on an emotional level. And what the hell does "on its own terms" mean?

Considering what happens in the last forty minutes of Inglorious Basterds, and in particular what Tarantino has the Nazi audience doing, don’t you think that fist pumping (or whatever the fuck) at Hitler getting shot to death with machine guns is perhaps not the intent Tarantino had? It’s an audacious moment, and I think you’re supposed to react, but I think fist-pumping in your seat might not be it.

It’s screaming ‘BOOM! HEADSHOT’ at the climax of The Assassination of Jesse James.

Seriously. Whilst Bell is an 'antagonist' within the Wire, I don't get people celebrating any death in that show, especially one of its more complex and nuanced characters.

"Fist pumping" moments, as I understand them, are largely rooted in wish fulfillment. The Wire didn't have any wish fulfillment.

Of course fist-pumping when Hitler buys it is a legitimate reaction. It's exactly the sort of wish-fulfillment Trevor is talking about.

I think Tarantino is actually playing on two reactions with Hitler's death: he's providing the wish fulfillment, sure, but he's also asking you to think about why you react that way, especially since the Nazis in the theater react much the same way to the enemy soldiers' deaths in Nation's Pride.

It's rather brilliant, really.

Neo flies in to save Morpheus and that other guy in the one of the Matrix sequels.

Seven Samurai -- when Kyuzo chases after the bandits, and is gone all night. He comes back in the morning. With the bandits' guns. He sits down, exhausted, and simply says "Killed two."

I'm going to file this one under 'potential, possibly unintentional fist pump tv moment': if it comes to pass that Prince (now King) Blondie McDoucheFace dies in some horrible way in Game of Thrones, I will cheer. And if Cersei also dies, because I'm sick of seeing her with that smug 'I beat you face'. I know everyone's flawed and complicated on the show, but I so look forward to that day, though I suspect it shall never come.

I'm a sucker for "riding off with the posse to gun down the bad guys as rousing music blares" scenes like those in THE UNTOUCHABLES and TOMBSTONE. Furious vengeance and all. No need for motivational speeches at that point. They're heading to a last stand, they know it, and villains are gonna get what's coming to them. Historical accuracies be damned.

Vendetta_Ride_Photo_001_2.jpg

The finale (as well as the ironic earlier scene with Bud White punishing the wife beater) of LA CONFIDENTIAL comes to mind as well.

It's my recollection that the second half of Tombstone is just 17 of these sequences in rapid succession.

That must have been the Hell that Wyatt promised would accompany him.

I'm a sucker for this kind of scene in Westerns, because I know how hard it is to shoot. Riding at full speed on horseback? Gotta be 100X harder.

It's not much of a film aside from this part, but the end of Frequency is fantastic in this regard, and it taps into the audiences relationship with their father in a pretty brilliant way. In fact, it makes the whole film utterly worthwhile. Still one of the best in-theater experiences I've had. Saw it at a matinee with my dad like three weeks after release. There were less than a dozen people in the audience. When that shotgun goes off, every single person started cheering.

If you haven't seen it, it's a mediocre film, but the ending rocks.

Agree with both of those; I'd like to add Optimus arriving to fight Megatron in Bay's "Transformers"; that final frame of Optimus standing, arms ready is fantastic.

Applauding the murder of Hitler in Basterds is 100 percent appropriate. Tarantino is fucking with the audience the way he sets it up: you're allowed to entertain opposing feelings in the response to well-textured material.

Going with a more recent film, I very much applauded Eric Bana's subway fight in Hanna. I thought that fight was the tits.

GRINDHOUSE. The last 30 seconds of DEATH PROOF. The twenty or so people in the theater roared with approval as the girls beat the shit out of Stuntman Mike, and laughed their asses off at the freeze frame ending. But when the movie suddenly started up again, giving Rosario Dawson a few more seconds to destroy Mike's face, the entire theater actually stood up at once and applauded. I usually think applauding at a movie is fucking stupid, but in this instance everybody was digging the movie so much, I just didn't give a fuck. Best time I've ever had at a theater, hands down.

Battlestar Galactica "The Adama Maneuver"

The last scene of the finale of Newhart is a pretty huge "stand-up & cheer" TV moment.

This is gonna sound stupid....but the end of "Revenge of the Nerds"......it's probably just the quiet buildup of Queen.....but I saw the ending of this 2 weeks ago, and it still works for me.
