THE AVENGERS (2012) Pre-Release. - Page 37

Seeing it in less than 19 hours (and counting!) I'll finally be able to venture into the Post-Release thread!

Also: They better not cancel Earth's Mightiest Heroes or I'll go Hulk on them. And I'm not talking Nerd Hulk either.

A very small part of me wants to see this just so I can go in the Post Release thread. They look they're having so much fun in there.

It's worth the wait.

Just 7 hours to go here!

Yes, it's indeed comforting to know that we shall all soon move onto a better place. A much brighter place. A place for those who are no longer blind and have seen what needs to be seen. smile.gif

Pre-sales are bigger than Iron Man 1 & 2, Capt. America, and Thor COMBINED. This should be fun to track.

I'm not sure what the reasons are for NZ and Aus getting some movies earlier, I'm sure it's probably just a clash thing, but it does seem to lend a fair bit of "word of mouth" from the smaller markets.

This could all be specious bollocks, I really don;t know anything about marketing or such, but in the Global Internet age it's easy for a small market (NZ, Aussie) to get word of mouth out about something.  The last time I saw this happen was Rise of TPotA.  Exactly the same thing.

Obviously the fact that Kiwis and Aussies went in their droves to see this flick suggests that the marketing has done it's job, but the ecstatic reaction can only add to the level of anticipation in the major markets.  Just a thought

What I'm really trying to say, is that if they want to release Prometheus here a couple of weeks early, I'll happily be the guinea pig ;p

I was thinking that myself. Let the smaller markets help build the anticipation for the largest single market.

OH NO YOU DON'T!!!

Yeah down here we will sometimes randomly get releases before the US, but then we also have fun stuff like Cabin in the Woods not even having a release date.... imagine the fun Im having trying to traverse the internet without getting spoiled on that one.

yeah, or Attack the Block or The Raid only getting a major center release (a YEAR later).  Not so great if you live in rural NZ.

So Scarlett wants her own Black Widow Bourne-like series? A female Bond?

I'd see the shit outta that. Feige, if I were you, I would listen to her.

Indeed.

My daughters reaction to the first Black Widow scene: "She's AWESOME"

My reaction to the first Black Widow scene: "I'd buy THAT for a dollar".

It has been seen.

Its awesomeness is still being processed.

Im off to the chosen one's section now, but let it be said: This is going to be HUGE, and it has every right to be; no way Whedon doesnt get bumped to Nolan status in terms of director appeal/power.

Also, Warner Brothers...take fucking notes and do NOT rush your countermove to this one; trust me on this.

Really confuse the howdy-doodads by cross-promoting it with Renner's Bourne movie.

"There was never just one?  They weren't all guys!"

Yeah, I definitely prefered Tasha's long hair from IM2, but I will take what I can get.

Sure they did. I just came back from the cinema. Full of mid 20' and 30' something, when word of mouth starts it will be huge.

Prolly gonna be in the minority here, but please no.  Not only am I not attracted to her, I think she is a terrible actress to boot.  She is, to me, the epitome of a vacuum.  I am still peeved we never got Emily Blunt dammit, and therefore I am going to be a child and dwell on the past.

You are most definitely in the minority here. Emily Blunt is lucky to be getting notice from some guy who makes fairly decent comedies that don't really hold up to repeat viewings and aren't really good movies at all. Not only that, she's really gangly and looks anaemic. Jo admittedly bland in Iron Man 2 and might be in The Avengers, but you be stretching pretty far to say she's like that in every film.

Oh come on. They're both hideous.

The only problem I can see with a ScarJo Black Widow solo movie is that it seems like they want to go Nick Fury first, and I can't see how that wouldn't be a retread of the same super-spy material. Maybe team them up?

I really do think they need a new female member for Avengers 2, but the bench is pretty shallow. I still say I'd love to see Wasp, but she's tangled up with Ant-Man, and I fucking hate Ant-Man. I'd say just leave Ant-Man out of it entirely, but apparently the Marvel gang wants an Ant-Man movie, so bleah. Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch are legally bound up with the X-Men, I assume. Tigra is probably too over-the-top even for a superhero movie, unless they find a radical new take on the character.

Wasn't the Ultimate version of the Vision a female? That might be an idea.

Scarlett Jo is really good in Avengers. And that ass in leather will be remember for ages.

What about Ms. Marvel... though I hate the idea of our only two female superheroes being ____ Widow and Ms. ____

According to Feige, both Fox and Marvel can use the two in a film, as strange as that sounds.

Well, she's soon to be called CAPTAIN Marvel, with a less-skimpy outfit. Probably because of this exact situation.

Didn't know where else to post this, but Jesus -- look at those heels on Downey.

He's a wee little puppet man.

I bet RDJ was pissed when Peter Dinklage won the part of Tyrion in Game Of Thrones. I guess it was lucky that he had Iron Man to fall back on.

You can thank Jack Blacks Gullivers Travels for not getting Emily Blunt as Black Widow.  God that movie sucked. Blunt has to be kind of pissed off.

MoonBaseNick, Scarlett Johansson is...Perfect as The Black Widow.  Emily Blunt...Bites!

Other female Avengers are...Ms. Marvel, The Wasp, Moondragon, Mantis, and Hellcat!

Hopefully her character is more interesting in Avengers than it was in Iron Man 2 otherwise I don't see much coming out of this.

I'd watch it.

I'd Love to see a...Nick Fury Agent Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Film!  A Black Widow film would be...Awesome as well!  If either film materializes then Advanced Idea Mechanics should be the...Villains!  M.O.D.O.K. would be great to see as well!

I am all for a SHIELD movie because it would have more Cobie Sumlders as Agent Hill. If I spelled her last name wrong, I blame it on the PBR. By the way, I'm not a hipster. I like the taste and I'm on a budget.

PBR: Beer for when you and money aren't friends.

PBR is a damn fine beer. Its is so good I don't care if have derailed the thread for a moment.

You have no idea. She gets some very cool, very key moments. And Scarlet really sells it.

I'll go now.

Chaz, You simply have to think of Cobie as...SMULDERING Hot, and then you will remember her name!

That is brilliant advice Duke. Thanks.

Been out of the loop a while, and actually forgot that this came out here already, but I think I need to see this ASAP. Sounds like Whedon rocked it.

Huh, that's a good point...I wonder if her recent makeover is to prepare her for joining the Avengers. Of course, I know nothing about the character or why she's interesting (she's an alien or something, right? Or is that the male Captain Marvel?)

If they can use the Scarlet Witch, I say go for it. (I'm indifferent to Quicksilver, and I'm more intent on adding a new female character to the lineup than simply padding it, but I guess he adds an interesting dynamic, so whatever.) The Witch is a bit of a problem in that her powers are so weirdly defined--she's a mutant whose mutant power is...magic?--but there are probably ways to work around it. Limit her abilities to, I don't know, illusions or something. I kind of liked Millar's idea that her power was the ability to affect quantum probabilities and choose the "best" outcome for any random situation, making her seem supernaturally lucky, though that comes with its own set of complications.

That sounds like Longshot's power.

Sort of. It's not super well-defined, but it's more like, she can cause wildly improbable situations to occur (like, say, a tank tread breaks right as it's bearing down on her, or something falls in the way of a bullet being fired at her and deflects it) so that it seems like a kind of bizarre telekinesis, or flat out "magic". Millar kind of blew past it in the Ultimates, barely even spelling out what she was doing, but it could be developed into something interesting. Or they could come up with something else. I don't know, maybe I don't have a good grasp on her powers in the original comics? She is basically just a wizard, right?

The Prankster, Ms. Marvel is Carol Danvers, who was born on...Earth.  She was saved by Captain Marvel once, and gained some of his Kree powers, through a...blood transfusion or something.  I cannot remember exactly.

So, let's begin the speculation, will Joss come back for Avengers II?
