MikeI, Black Widow, has always been...Super!  A Russian Superspy, an American Superhero, whom also moonlighted for S.H.I.E.L.D.  She even dated 2...Superheroes, DD and Hawkeye, in an...Super Awesome Superhero Smackdown, which had her telling them, that they were...Both wrong!  With her...Widow's sting, and other gadgetry, she is really no different than any other gadget laden superhero!

Yeah, was just idle speculation.

Another nice example of tying the franchises together: the design for the Stark Expo in Captain America was "previewed" in the downloadable wallpapers from the first Iron Man film.

Poster is a dream come true, although it highlights of the uphill battle of making Black Widow a relevant superhero. She has a gun. Okay, so does every other S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. Of course Iron Man 2 highlighted her wide array of gadgets, but she's coming across as the Xander of the group.

I can't think of a franchise crossover even close to this team-up since the days of the Universal Monsters. Is there a chance the existence of The Avengers can be traced directly back to Freddy vs. Jason? There was a time when Vs. movies seemed a sure thing (Pinhead vs. Michael Myers, Batman vs. Superman), but we only ever ended up with the subpar Alien vs. Predator movies.

The collage of all the Avengers posters released in SDCC is incredible, and even though I knew the movie is coming in 2012, seeing the posters just feels like the dream is turning into reality. Marvel was really gutsy to have a grand vision like the Avengers coming out, and be tied to various solo movies that lead up to it. Whatever happens, this is a monumental event and I can't wait to see it on the big screen 10 months from now.

My cynicism was in top gear yesterday, but after thoroughly enjoying Captain America I was glad to see both the Times Square scene and the teaser after the credits.

The teaser footage didn't exactly impress. I didn't see anything to convince me the film had the large scope you would imagine was necessary for this film. Despite that, seeing Downey Jr and Hemsworth in the same scene together put a big smile on my face.

I also thought the Cap boxing scene implied he was carrying some emotional baggage from his own movie, but maybe I'm projecting.

I really didn't like the cinematography of the teaser. Too "music video'ish" for my liking. I'm also surprised that Whedon is shooting this in 1:85:1. I really didn't like the look that Thor was sporting while Black Widow and Hawkeye feel really out of place in this. Too bad that Wesley Snipes is in the can because Blade would have been a kickass replacement for Hawkeye. I only want to see Black Widow in this if she's on her knee's and getting Bukakkae'd thus turning her into the films super-villain THE CUM DUMPSTER!!! Kinda like the Marvel version of Mathilda May from Lifeforce.

Newbies have issues, apparently.

Well it's really, really early and I don't think they've filmed the majority of the action scenes yet.

I liked the teaser, but it went by way too fast. It's really annoying when a teaser or trailer is full of these quick flashes of things. It's fine once or twice, but this teaser was pretty much nothing but that. It's disorienting and makes it hard to see what's going on. My friend said he caught a glimpse of Cobie Smulders, but I sure didn't.

I noticed Loki, though. I haven't seen "Thor", so I'm not sure if he was the best choice out of all the villains in the Marvel movie universe (seen thus far) to reprise his role in "The Avengers". What do those of you who have seen "Thor" think? I wonder if he'll have a major role or be more like The Scarecrow in "The Dark Knight"...there more just for a sense of continuity.

I also thought the best part was just seeing Robert Downey Jr. interacting with Chris Hemsworth. I love Black Widow's costume, and have since "Iron Man 2". I think it was the best thing about that movie, which was all right, but had a mediocre feel, especially compared to its predecessor. I'm hoping Anne Hathaway's costume in "The Dark Knight Rises" will be similar.

Loki, out of all the villains introduced thus far, is probably the only villain who could justify the entire Avengers team-up. He's fantastic in Thor, Tom Hiddleston is probably the second best thing in the film, and in terms of power he can go toe-to-toe with the groups heaviest hitter and outwit the groups smarter members.

I'm with you on Iron Man 2 in a way. I think it gets a lot right, but it feels like it's coasting too much on Downey Jrs. natural charisma. I still think it's fun, but it's my least favourite of the Marvel movies.

Not having seen THOR (and therefore having no opinion on Loki), I can say I'd be ready for Red Skull all jacked up on the cosmic cube to be a big baddie for the Avengers.

Loki's also a mover and shaker because of his magic. He's a pretty good gateway villain to a lot of the other, more galactic foes the Avengers can face. And considering this firepower, the villain has to be massive, right? I doubt we'll be seeing the Avengers fight, say, the Grim Reaper or Crossbones or something.

Not that the continuity really matters, but Loki's the first enemy that the original Avengers faced after Cap's revival (IIRC, he "frames" the Hulk for some kind of mayhem; I think Namor's in there too somewhere...)

His nature also means that he's a good natural foil for whatever villains you have. You can have Loki and at least one other supervillain in play, largely because the audience knows that Loki is a deceitful, betraying, bastard.

Against all the beefcake, Black Widow looks like a toddler in the teaser.

I worry that this film will have a TV quality (ala Fantastic Four) to it. Some of the footage from the teaser gives off that vibe. Josh Whedon is a good writer but has never directed anything I would call cinematic. Serenity never felt more than a 30 million TV episode in the way it was shot. Here's hoping he's upped his game from television.

Meh...the climactic space battle in Serenity showed that Whedon can go big if need be. The TV feel of the movie probably had more to do with the fact that "TV" was the visual language of the subject, not to mention the film's inherent budget limitations.

Loki's a strange villain to pick since his motivations in THOR were somewhat sympathetic, so it'll be interesting to see how they turn him into an all-encompassing evil that requires The Avengers to assemble. Still anything to see Hiddleston at it again. He killed it in THOR.

Only a sample of a more lengthy one.

...God didn't he. He played him unhinged yet fragile. Sort of like a wounded animal. I think his wild eyed delivery of "Well I guess that's worth a look" during the post credit sequence of Thor gives us a glimpse of the Loki we'll see in this one.

The teaser is longer than what you see in that clip, but not by much. There's a scene with cap punching a punching bag in a gym and Nick Fury turns up and asks him to save the world. Then there is a bunch of quick cuts, some soldiers closing in on presumeably the hulk, Loki being escorted somewhere, some random cars blowing up...

It's like they threw together whatever filming they had done so far into something vaguely trailer shaped.

Ha. RDJ's wearing a Black Sabbath shirt. I get it.

I wonder if they'll have Widow hook up with Cap in this one?

I certainly hope not. She deserves better than to be his rebound. cool.gif

Those six stills are tailor made for a speech bubble meme.

Why the hell does Jeremy Renner look like Micky Rooney is this teaser?

Jeremy Renner is... not a handsome guy. :(

He never was. Kind of if Daniel Craig was run over by a car a few times over.

Might be fun though. Pairing cynical spy with a "Gee Shucks" kid from Brooklyn.

Doesn't even look like the same man. Least flattering lighting on an actor I've seen in a LONG time.

Keep in mind, those stills flash through over less than two seconds and I doubt they went through the full post production ringer.

Poor guy, he looks like an aging lesbian who's giving herself a serious mirror pep talk before embarking on a night on the town, "You CAN do it, Charlene!".

My God, Renner looks horrible that single frame grab from a preview of a preview off the internet. What a fucking terrible movie this no doubt will be.

I didn't say the film looked bad. Not at all. But he looks really weird in that shot, with that lighting. Strange they didn't have a better one of him from a scene. But really great of you to make it seem like I'm saying something different.

Sorry, man, I wasn't trying to misrepresent you. It just strikes me as a little silly to complain about the depiction of an actor from a single frame of an internet preview of an post-credits teaser trailer.

Now that I think about it, I guess there's not much else about talk about as far as the actual movie goes at this point. Let's all continue making fun of Jereme Renner. Or Hawkeye. Fuck Hawkeye.

Renner looks like Mickey Rooney and Hawkeye is shit. This is my only opinion of the film so far. What use is an Archer when you have a space-god, robot, monster and a super soldier?

I can't wait to see a screen shot of the Hulk from the film.  Of course, my TRUE fanboy dream would be if we got to see the Gray Hulk in Avengers 2.  xD

I dunno. Maybe his arrows have boxing gloves on the end of them.

Don't be foolish.  That's Green Arrow.

Hawkeye will shoot an arrow with a shrunk down Antman on it.

He's the Hawkman of Marvel. Nobody wanted that guy in the JLA either.

Oh please God.

In defence of Hawkeye (and Duke Fleed will back me up here) he is hands down the best thing in the animated show Earth's Mightiest Heroes. With that characterisation and based on Renner's fun (albeit odd) appearance in Thor I think we'll be in for a treat...

Is Paltrow doing a cameo for this? I've heard conflicting reports.

The shot of Ruffalo being all crumpled academic is oddly the one that I like best. Can't wait to see his Bruce Banner.
