Kane will try and usher in a rebirth for the man with no fear.

I have my doubts about Fox's ability to pull this one off, but my fingers are crossed for 'em. Born Again is one of the greatest stories ever to come out of Marvel and has the ability to be a real game-changer for the superhero movie genre if done correctly.

Born Again has Matt Murdock out of costume for most of it. Wonder if this was a factor, as the original film's "gimp suit" was cause of much derision.

*Awaiting the official announcement for their Fantastic Four reboot*

Fox is fiending for franchises like a crack addict right now.  Outside of X-Men and Die Hard, they don't really have anything............at least not for teens and adults.  Avatar 2&3 are on the way, but won't hit screens for another three years.  Percy Jackson and The A-Team didn't pan out for them.  Narnia obviously wasn't worth the purchase, as no one went to see the latest entry.  At this point, they are jumpstarting every franchise property they've got in a full-blown "let's see what sticks" assault....

Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011)

Prometheus (2012)

Daredevil: Born Again (2012)

The Wolverine (2012 or 2013)

Die Hard V (2012 or 2013)

Deadpool (2012 or 2013)

I guarantee they'll rush FF4 into production before they lose the rights back to Marvel and you can bet that another Predator film isn't more than a couple years off.  Expect more remakes and reboots until they have themselves a nice stable of franchises.

He was out of costume in most of that movie, as well. Born Again is great, but I suspect about as subtle as Robocop 2 when played in flesh and blood. A shame they'll have to dance around the Avengers cameo.

Kane is apparently a huge Daredevil fan, which will undoubtedly help reinvent the character for the big screen.

Hahaha

"First and foremost, I'm a fan. I just want to see a great Daredevil movie. I went after the rights myself a couple of years back. I pitched it all over town, first selling the project and then selling myself. Sony fell out of negotiations with Marvel, then New Regency stepped in and snapped it up. It's taken up the last few years of my life. If it wasn't for my passion for Daredevil I would have bailed by now!" - Mark Steven Johnson, 2002

Also, who the shit is Brad Caleb Kane? Are we supposed to know going in?

Well, apparently he wrote some episodes of Fringe.  And is a producer on the show.

Sounds like a bad alter ego name for a comic book villain.

A good chunk of Spider-Man 2 has Peter out of the suit. We all know that worked well.

A good chunk of any superhero film has them out of the suit.

You know, for all the many, many flaws of DAREDEVIL, that fight in the bar is really good and holds up today as probably the best single grim n' gritty superhero fight scene, better that anything in either Nolan Batfilm or WATCHMEN. The rest of the film is all over the place tonally and very, very bad most of the time, but that fight is really good.

Also, though it did look like a gimp suit, I thought the costume was as good as a guy in a red devil costume could look in 2003. At least he could turn his frickin' head.

Especially when you consider it was made by a blind man!

Born Again strikes me as an unfortunate choice to adapt if you're not rebooting the character-- not to get too geeky or spoilerific, but choices that were made in the first film seem to  undercut much of what makes Born Again compelling. I would think that there's several more recent stories that would have fit better with the previous film.

That's a good point; Johnson cribbed from a variety of source material, Born Again being one of them.

But in retrospect, making Daredevil a Vicodin-addicted murderer was a serious ahead-of-the-curve move. I just wish the thing didn't feel so fan-filmy.

I just hope that Fox gets...DD right this time!

This is what exactly went through my head while reading the "he's a fan" part of the article. I also remember Mark Steven Johnson's script had real good word of mouth before it started shooting. Then again, this was back when I was a more than casual viewer of AICN.

Isn't every director of a geek property a 'fan' of the property. Apart from JJ Abrams. It seems to be a random pull quote for most directors when they get attached to stuff. Personally I'd rather have someone who couldn't give a fuck, and did interesting and non-pandering stuff with the source material rather than a superfan.

Worked out well for WB with Nolan, but unless you're getting someone of his caliber or at least close to it you're just asking for another Brett Ratner Disaster, who's pre- and post- X3 putout suggests nothing "super" or "hero"

Silly me for re-quoting THR on Kane being a Daredevil fan.   One minute, that's a fact that gets fans hard, the next minute it's a "Who the fuck cares" item.

I missed THAT memo...

I think you're taking that a tad bit too personal. I hope this projects ends up being good. I love me some Daredevil.

i dont think thats really the case, but most of these young up and coming directors grew up in the comic book boon of the late 80's-90's, so chances are most of them have some kind of an attachment to the source material. now, who knows, this guy could step up and deliver an epic screenplay, but personally im more interested in what David Slades vision will be, since his filmography to date is quite.....mixed.

Hard Candy : very good character piece with some outstanding work by Ellen Page and Patrick Wilson

30 Days of Night: had its moments, but overall was sort of a let down, expected more

Twilight Eclipse: what a fucking downward spiral......

so yeah, weve seen shit scripts been turned into capable, even very entertaining, films by great directors. im not convinced this will be the case.

I'm not taking it personally, just commenting.  The variations in how these things are discussed is very...confusing.   I like to be able to predict a response.

i would kill to see what aronofsky or fincher could come up with for this character

Man I'm so sick of hearing this kind of talk regarding super hero films. Leave the popcorn directors to the comics. Aronofsky and Fincher have way better shit to do.

agreed, but we were damn close...

Not a big Daredevil fan, but when Edward Norton was approached for the role in 2001 or 2002 I recall him being interested in doing it in the style of Born Again specifically to keep him out of costume for the majority of the film. Considering Norton's reputation, his penchant for strong-arming a project away from the people behind the camera, I wonder if we'd have ended up with a better film.

I think that a...Good Daredevil film should be made before anyone talks about a film where he is out of costume for the majority of the running time.

Yet again, being out of the costume is a non-issue.  Most superheroes are out of their costume for the majority of the running time.  I just hope it has a decent script and compelling action sequences.

S.D. Bob Plissken, I just hope the...Finale, includes DD in costume vs Kingpin or whatever Henchman, is involved!
