If you've burned through LA Noire, give this a spin. It may be more fun.

Nice write up on one of my favorite Noirs. Lancaster is the man, and you are so right on how brilliant the cinematography is. I think Siegel's remake is also pretty great, but is too oft unfairly elevated above this original by geeks.

I'm ashamed to say I haven't seen the Siegel one -- I actually thought it was the one I'd rented.  But Netflix has a difficult time telling you what is on what disc on those Criterion two-packs!

Oh well, never a bad thing to hang out with Lancaster and O'Brien again. :P

That opening scene is still amazingly tense and it's just three men talking, there's a menace in the two hitmen that is just absolutely chilling. I like Siegel's version, it has a rougher feel, probably due to the fact it was a made for TV production but Marvin, Dickinson and Cassavettes have fun with it. You should check out Criss Cross, it's another Siodmak/Lamcaster noir, not as good as The Killers but entertaining enough.
