Saying that The Killing has turned the cop show on its head is giving it way too much credit... I'm sure there are worse shows on TV, but of the ones that I watch, this is by far the worst. I'm not really sure why I put myself through it.

The Killing turned the cop show on it's head in the sense that it dropped it on it's head and left it with a dent.
